Major motorway closed in both directions over ‘police-led incident' as drivers facing hour-long delays

DRIVERS have been warned of travel chaos as bumper-to-bumper traffic builds on a major motorway. A stretch of M40 has been closed down in both directions after a "police-led incident". 2 The cordon is in place between J6 at Chinnor and J5 at Stokenchurch. Thames Valley Police remain on scene and are leading the response to the closure. National Highways Traffic Officers are also helping with traffic management. Motorists have been warned of hour-long queues due to the disruption. National Highways said: "The M40 remains closed in both directions between J6 (Chinnor) and J5 (Stokenchurch) due to a police-led incident. "Delays are approaching 60 minutes northbound & 70 minutes southbound in the area." Northbound traffic is being diverted via the Hollow Diamond diversion symbol. Drivers are being directed to exit the M40 at J5 and take the A40 northbound. Then continue to the B4009 and turn left onto the B4009 then re-join the M40 at J6. Meanwhile, southbound traffic is being diverted via the Hollow Circle diversion symbol. Motorists should exit the M40 at J6 and follow the B4009. Then turn right onto the A40 and continue until you re-join the M6 at J5. 2

60 traffic tickets dished out in 5 hours at busy North Vancouver intersection

An RCMP cruiser is pictured with the logo painted on the side. (Source: Facebook) Traffic enforcement officers at one notorious intersection in North Vancouver dished out 60 tickets in just five hours last week, over half of which were for one dangerously common traffic violation. Spread across Thursday and Friday last week, the blitz saw traffic officers reprimand drivers navigating rush hour traffic at the intersection of Keith and Lillooet roads. Thirty-five of the 60 handed out were for prohibited U-turns, said North Vancouver RCMP's Mansoor Sahak, adding that this particular intersection is notorious for drivers refusing to abide the clear no U-turn sign in the area. Motorists caught pulling the prohibited 180-degree turn were slapped with a $167 fine and two demerit points. The remaining 25 tickets were given to the pulled-over drivers who were found to have carried out further violations, including not having their driver's licence or insurance that was in date. 'When the traffic gets really bad here, people use that as a shortcut to get around,' said Sahak. 'There's all sorts of tricks and shortcuts that people use when traffic really backs up. You just have to keep in mind that, if you are going to take the shortcuts, you must still obey the traffic signs that are there.' With the summer in full swing, Sahak said the traffic across the North Shore is far busier than usual and drivers should be ensuring they are making the effort to avoid such dangerous driving behaviour. 'During this season we're seeing a lot more accidents, a lot more people on the road and a lot more fatalities, unfortunately,' he said. 'So take your time when you hit the road, be patient, and just be extra cautious.'
