Cold front causes widespread flooding across Cape Town
Motorists across Cape Town are being urged to proceed with extreme caution as a powerful cold front that made landfall early on Wednesday morning has led to flooding and hazardous road conditions throughout the metro. The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a Yellow Level 2 warning for disruptive rainfall, in effect until Thursday morning, and a Yellow Level 4 warning for damaging coastal waves beginning Wednesday evening. The storm is expected to persist until Sunday, 29 June, with maximum temperatures plunging below 10 degrees Celsius in certain high-lying areas and the possibility of snowfall and strong winds. Severe weather causes widespread power outages across KZN
Following a bout of severe weather, which brought heavy rainfall, strong winds and snowfall to KZN, Eskom has reported multiple power outages across the province. Severe weather forces closure of Barkly Pass for heavy vehicles
Motorists have been urged to avoid overnight travel and remain vigilant as Barkly Pass is closed for heavy vehicles. According to a statement released by Chris Hani District Municipality, Barkly Pass was only open for light vehicles at the time of publishing, but is expected to close completely as snow is falling heavily. This comes as South Africans struggle with severe weather, with temperatures plummeting with cold fronts sweeping the country. In addition to Barkly Pass, Traffic SA has reported that the N9 between Middelburg and Graaff Reinet is closed, and motorists should be aware of snow conditions at Lootsberg Pass.

Wandering elephant seal safely returned to sea
CAPE TOWN - A heartwarming end to a surprise visit to the Mother City. The elephant seal seen wandering the streets of Gordon's Bay has been safely returned to the ocean. A coordinated rescue plan ensured the safe relocation of the marine mammal. Residents and motorists were in awe when the big boy stopped traffic and even took a bit of a rest on the hood of a security car. The Cape of Good Hope SPCA is lauding everyone involved and reminds residents not to approach such animals but instead call for assistance.
