RTA Launches Major Road Marking Renewal Across 89 Locations

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched a large-scale project to renew road markings at 89 locations across the city, reinforcing its commitment to road safety and infrastructure excellence under its 2025 Preventive Maintenance Plan. The initiative spans highways, main roads, residential streets, and key intersections. It includes re-striping 50 major roads—such as Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street, First Al Khail Road, and 2nd December Street—as well as refreshing markings in 39 residential areas like Al Barsha, Al Twar, and Al Qusais Industrial Area. As part of the project, the RTA will repaint over 30,000 linear metres of road markings. The plan also includes renewing box junctions, paid parking spaces, red surfacing in speed reduction zones, and traffic-calming elements such as humps. 'The renewal of road markings is a priority under RTA's 2025 Preventive Maintenance Plan,' said Abdulla Ali Lootah, Director of Roads and Facilities Maintenance at RTA. 'This initiative supports our Traffic Safety Strategy and enhances Dubai's global standing in road safety and infrastructure.' Lootah emphasized the use of advanced technologies and premium materials to improve the durability of markings and ensure minimal disruption during the works. Comprehensive safety measures will be in place throughout the process to maintain smooth traffic flow. This renewal programme is part of RTA's broader strategy to ensure that Dubai's road network remains safe, efficient, and clearly marked for all road users. News Source: Dubai Media Office

Dubai's RTA Launches Short Film Competition For Students

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched a new competition aimed at university and postgraduate filmmakers, encouraging them to create short films that address the causes and risks of traffic accidents. The initiative, called the Road Safety Film Festival, is designed to raise awareness about road safety among young people. The competition features three categories, with first-place winners in each receiving certificates of achievement, recognition, and cash prizes. The categories focus on key traffic challenges: sudden lane departures, driving distractions, and unsafe behaviours involving bicycles and electric scooters. Submissions will open on 7 April 2025 and close on 14 July 2025. Participants can submit their entries through the competition portal on the RTA website at where they can find detailed information on eligibility, evaluation criteria, and submission guidelines. The competition is open to university students aged 18 to 35, with entries accepted individually or in teams of up to three members. Multiple entries are allowed, provided that all films are original and made by the students or teams. The goal is to create films that contribute meaningfully to road safety awareness. Ahmed Al Khzaimy, Director of Traffic at RTA's Traffic and Roads Agency, explained: 'The competition empowers students to showcase their creativity through impactful films that promote traffic safety within the community.' 'RTA has allocated cash prizes for the top three winners in each category. This aligns with the objectives of Dubai's Traffic Safety Strategy, which emphasises raising awareness among school and university students — particularly those in university, who are a capable and active segment of youth,' he added. 'The film topics were selected based on traffic statistics that show lane departures and distractions as leading causes of fatal accidents. The third category addresses the rise in unsafe behaviors among bicycle and e-scooter users,' Al Khzaimy concluded.

RTA Completes 40 Air-Conditioned Rest Areas for Delivery Riders Across Dubai

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has completed the construction of 40 air-conditioned rest areas for delivery riders in strategic locations across the emirate. This initiative is part of RTA's ongoing efforts to enhance road safety, improve quality of life, and provide essential services to delivery riders, offering them comfort while awaiting new orders. His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, emphasized the importance of this project in ensuring safety for delivery riders, particularly in light of the sector's rapid growth. As of June 2023, Dubai hosts 2,535 companies offering motorcycle delivery services with a fleet of 46,600 bikes. The rest areas are designed to minimize sun exposure while providing air-conditioned seating for up to 10 riders. Each facility also features dedicated motorcycle parking spaces. Strategically placed in key locations like Hessa Street, Al Karama, Business Bay, Dubai Marina, and Al Garhoud, the rest areas were selected based on operational data and demand for delivery services. This initiative is part of RTA's broader strategy to improve road safety and align with Dubai's 'Zero Fatalities' Traffic Safety Strategy. Al Tayer also highlighted the RTA's Delivery Service Excellence Award, which promotes high service standards, road safety, and regulatory compliance within the sector. The award recognizes top delivery companies, riders, and partners, with the upcoming second edition set to further elevate service quality and professionalism in Dubai's growing delivery sector.
