Woman horrified after pregnant friend choses 'intestinal' name for baby girl

People urged her to 'risk her friendship' with the mum-to-be in order to try to save the child from inevitable bullying. Choosing a baby name is one of the trickiest decisions a new parent has to make. Do you go for something classic and traditional, or more modern and unique? ‌ Whatever you choose, it sticks with the child for life. So something that sounds cute for a baby, might not suit an adult, while a formal title may seem a bit off for a youngster. ‌ People are influenced by many things when thinking about potential names. From their favourite TV characters to gems and jewellery - and, in some cases, serial killers - there's a whole host of places to find inspiration. ‌ One of the most obvious is turning to family. Many names carry down through the generations of certain families as new parents honour those that have come before them. But, with the potential for lots of grandparents, siblings, aunts, and uncles to choose from, it can be hard to pick the right one without offending anyone. Some people decide to go for compound names; combining the monikers of several relatives to create a unique, new title that references several people. But while this can be a nice touch, it also runs the risk of something not quite sounding right. And this is exactly what has happened for one mum-to-be. The woman is due to give birth to a daughter next month, and she and her husband have already picked out the name. Delighted with their choice, they sent out a WhatsApp message to friends and family with the chosen title. ‌ In a bid to pay homage to their own parents, called Fernando, Cameron, and Lynne, the couple decided to combine the trio of names and come up with something a bit alternative. The result, however, might not go down as well as they hope. A screenshot of the pregnant woman's message was shared on Reddit, where users were aghast at the final choice. Posting on the Tragedeigh forum, where people discuss terribly-spelt names, one user said: "My college friend and the very 'intestinal' sounding new name she chose for her daughter". ‌ The message read: "Our beautiful daughter, due 04/09. FECALYNN - honouring her grandparents Fernando, Cameron, and Lynne - who are important parts of my husband's and my lives." The post has racked up 32,000 likes in the seven days since it was posted, as well as attracting almost 3,000 comments - mostly from horrified Redditors. ‌ The use of 'fecal' in the name led many users to suggest it sounded like the name of a medication to improve bowel movements. One popular comment said: "Honey, have you taken your fecalynn today? I know how constipated you've been..." Someone else replied, adding: "Fecalynn… for when you need to fecalout!" ‌ A third user commented: "Fecalynn sounds like a medication that comes with a lot of unpleasant side effects." And a fourth added: "Ask your doctor if Fecalynn is right for you!" Others were, unsurprisingly, concerned for the impending arrival - and how she would have to deal with a lifetime of mockery with her moniker. The top-rated comment implored the original poster to step in. It read: "Please, for the love of all that is holy, risk your friendship to save this child from a lifetime of bullying before it's too late." ‌ Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Another Redditor said: "This kid is f***ed for her whole life. As a teacher I can promise they're making a miserable school life for their child. Really s***ty when you think about it. Just selfish and idiotic." While others suggested different options that the parents-to-be could have chosen. One said: "Couldn't have just named her Fernanda and have two middle names for her other grandparents?" Someone else replied: "Seriously, why have these people never heard of middle names? You don't need to mash everything together."

'I think my cousin's baby name will get her daughter bullied but she won't listen'

The concerned cousin wants to help her relative before it's too late. Picking a name for your baby is a tough decision for any prospective parent. You have to find a name that you like and will be happy using to describe your bundle of joy throughout their life. But you, obviously, have to consider the child too. It's a title they will hear every single day for years to come, so you don't want to pick something that might cause them trouble. ‌ And that's exactly the issue one woman is trying to avoid with one pregnant relative. She and her cousin are "like sisters" so the woman tried to persuade her cousin that the name she has picked could potentially see her daughter bullied in future. ‌ It's not the name itself that she has concerns about, more the unconventional spelling. And having hit a wall with her attempts to talk her cousin round, she turned to social media. She took to Reddit's Tragedeigh forum, a place where users debate names that are "deliberately misspelled or completely made up to appear more unique than they actually are", to ask for advice. The woman revealed that her cousin likes the name Phoebe and wants to give it a "unique twist" when her daughter is born, naming her Feabe. She continued: "I've tried to convince her that people won't understand how to say it, and the traditional spelling looks a lot prettier, but she has her mind set. "She says nobody will read it differently, and uses the names Lia and Lea as examples. I just don't think it's the same thing. But tell me, is it a Tragedeigh like I think it is? Will the kid get bullied?" ‌ The woman shared that the due date is fast approaching and she had made several attempts to talk her cousin round, but to no avail. She said: "I'm struggling here trying to find ways to convince her to change it. I texted her about the Phineas and Ferb reference the kid is going to get, and she just said that she loved the show as a kid. ‌ "Me and my cousin are super close, like sisters, so any suggestions?" And she then revealed that her cousin's planned middle name could also be a Tragedeigh. She said: "It also doesn't help that her middle name will be spelt Feiey, like Fae for fairy. So Feabe Feiey." One user responded to her post: "Wouldn't Fea be a feminine form of feo, Spanish for ugly? Even if not, any chance you can convince your cousin of that?" ‌ Another user commented: "I would pronounce Feabe as Feeb. Maybe Fabe as a distant second guess." While a third replied: "It's reminding me more of 'feeble' than of 'Phoebe'.' A fourth person, taking in the name as a whole, said: "Looking at the first name alone, it just felt weird and less absolutely tragic, but somehow it seems SO much worse paired with the middle name." ‌ Someone else warned: "Any elementary teacher will tell you that Phoebe spelled as Feabe is going to get teased as Flea be and when she's older? Even worse, Fee is for sale to the highest bidder. Kids are Cruel. Girls are crueler." Another Redditor agreed, adding: "It is more than a Tragedeigh; it is child abuse. The poor kid will be called Feeble or Febreeze, and even well-intentioned people will say it incorrectly. "It also entirely hides its Greek meaning of 'bright' or 'shining' (as in Phoebus Apollo), and it disconnects it from any of the characters in mythology, or the woman in the Bible, who have the name Phoebe." 'I'm horrified by my cousin's baby name choice - she needs to be stopped'

A woman has asked people for advice on whether or not it's acceptable to tell her cousin that her chosen baby name is 'absolutely atrocious' before it's too late A woman has sought advice after her efforts to dissuade her cousin from choosing an 'atrocious' baby name were in vain. In a bid to convince her cousin to rethink the unconventional spelling of her soon-to-be-born daughter's name, she's turned to Reddit for help. She shared her dilemma on the Tragedeigh forum, a space dedicated to discussing names that are "deliberately misspelled or completely made up to appear more unique than it actually is." ‌ Her cousin is set on the name Phoebe but wants to add a 'unique' spin by spelling it Feabe. ‌ She explained: "I've tried to convince her that people won't understand how to say it, and the traditional spelling looks a lot prettier, but she has her mind set. "She says nobody will read it differently, and uses the names Lia and Lea as examples. I just don't think it's the same thing. But tell me, is it a tragedeigh like I think it is? Will the kid get bullied?", she asked. ‌ With the baby's arrival imminent, the worried woman is frantically trying to persuade her cousin to stick with the original spelling, fearing the child's future could be affected. She added: "I'm struggling here on trying to find ways to convince her to change it. I texted her about the Phineas and Ferb reference the kid is going to get, and she just said that she loved the show as a kid. "My cousin and I are super close, like sisters, so any suggestions? 'My cousin's baby name comes from a film but she has no idea how bad it is'

A woman has slammed her cousin for giving her daughter an awkward name that'll 'haunt her' throughout her life - and to make matters worse, it matches a joked about movie character A woman has been left gobsmacked after hearing what her cousin has named her daughter - making her wonder whether it's an elaborate joke. She explained how she came across the announcement on Facebook, which is only uses to keep in touch with her family who live far away. While she was delighted to hear her cousin and her newborn were happy and healthy following the birth, she couldn't help but cringe at the name her cousin had given her child. Speaking on the Tragedeigh thread on Reddit, where people discuss the most unfortunate baby names they have come across, she said: "I looked at the name of my new cousin and... It's Renesmae. ‌ "My cousin took a very famous tragedeigh [colloquial term for a bad or misspelled baby name] and turned it into even more of a tragedeigh! Her daughter's middle name is Krysten after her older sister who passed some time ago." ‌ Renesmee was the name of Bella Swan and Edward Cullen's child in the Twilight saga. However, the woman says her cousin isn't a "hardcore Twilight fan" and simply mixed combined several names together to get the moniker - the same way the film's protagonists came up with the similar name in the book and film franchise. She added: "Our grandmother's name was Mae and my cousin's middle name is Renee. That's the only reason I think she gave her daughter that name. "It's the name Reneé and the name Ésmé put together. First seen (I believe) as Bella and Edward's daughter from Twilight, Renesme [sic] Cullen. In the book, It's their mom's names combined. "As for my cousin, the Reneé makes sense since that's her middle name. But there's no Ésmés in our family? There is a Mae (our grandmother). "Being 23 and thus alive during the Twilight hype and hate era, I think she would have realised how much hate this kids' going get on her name alone before people notice that it's spelt different. ‌ "However she's in another state and on my father's side of the family who I barely have contact with anyway." Commenting on the moniker, one user said: "My mum works in paediatrics at a big hospital, she had Renesme on multiple occasions." Another user added: "There are sisters Rosalie and Renesme at my kids school. At least when they are older at not always together, Rosalie won't automatically get labelled as having a Twi-hard mother. Poor kids." A third user said: "I'll do you one worse - a girl I went to school with called her daughter Ronessmae. So not only did she name her a stupid name after a Twilight character - she absolutely butchered it as well. Shameful." One more user said: "Other than the Twilight connection, it just looks and sounds awkward personally to me and a few others. I'm a native French speaker, and that makes it even more awkward."

Twins' 'tragic' names mocked by major restaurant chain with 'brutal' comeback

A pair of twins' unconventional names have been humorously called out by fast food giant Wendy's. The task of naming your baby is a significant decision that will impact their entire life. When selecting a name, parents must balance their preferred choices with what will be suitable for their child at every stage of life, from adorable infant to potentially awkward teenager, to working professional and beyond. However, for some parents, the key factor when contemplating a name is its perceived "uniqueness". In a world populated by eight billion people, it's fair to assume nothing is ever truly unique. This prompts some parents to completely ignore phonetics and standard spelling rules in favor of an alternatively spelled version of a conventional name, often leading to choices that sound identical when spoken but are somewhat nonsensical when written out. In other instances, parents attempt to invent a completely new name for their children by merging certain parts of established names. This seems to be the case for one set of twins, whose parents chose to name them Mckelteigh Rayeleighanne and Drawsonne Lintleighmaye. When one of their parents posted a picture of the back of their heads along with their names, it was widely circulated on social media where numerous people were quick to criticize or ridicule the twins' names. Fast food giant Wendy's, known for its sharp wit on social media, dropped a zinger on the platform Threads. The restaurant chain joked: "My brother's name is Soda Dispenseighr". The names - along with Wendy's cheeky retort - made waves on the popular Reddit forum Tragedeigh, where users often post, debate, and mock so-called "tragedeighs" - names that are misspelled or nonsensically arranged, frequently with superfluous letters - they've come across in the real world or online. The post was captioned with the words: "Wendy's is brutal". In the comments, fellow social media users were eager to weigh in with their opinions. One commenter remarked: "Imagine these poor kids learning how to read and write and realizing their names are phonetic and alphabetical nightmares". Someone else claimed: "I remember a study that found that kids with names that are spelled oddly like this have demonstrably more difficultly learning to spell and read." In a discussion about why parents might choose such names for their children, another Redditor suggested: "There was a study I saw that said parents give their kids 'youknique' names like this because they know it will give their kids attention which will then give them (the parents) attention. I believe it's a subconscious thing, but I imagine parents like this are not the best or the smartest either." Wendy's is known for its sassy social media presence (Image: jetcityimage via Getty Images) One individual pointed out the problem isn't necessarily with complex established names, but rather when a common name is spelled in an unconventional manner to make it seem "different" or "unique". This also extends to parents creating names from a random mix of letters. They stated: "It's not so much having a difficult name. It's having a normal name spelled in an unnecessarily complex way". Another person added: "I mean, after choosing names like those, the parents deserve that. Somehow 'Soda Dispenseihr' is not nearly as brutal as the actual names those parents picked."
