Khareef's call draws bikers back to Salalah
Salalah – Khareef season in southern Oman is attracting a diverse mix of visitors, including a growing number of bikers from across the region. Among them is Trails and Dust, a Dubai-based biking group, which this week completed its annual tour to Salalah.
Formed five years ago, Trails and Dust has built a reputation for bringing together motorcycling enthusiasts from different backgrounds. The group not only rides together every weekend, but also rents bikes, equipment, and tools, and organises guided rides for riders of all skill levels.
'This ride is not just about adventure. It's about friendship, brotherhood and the joy of coming together, no matter from where you are or to what culture you belong. On the road, we're all one family,' said George Osorio, the group's leader.
The Salalah trip is the highlight of the year for the group, planned to coincide with khareef when cooler weather, lush landscapes and winding mountain roads make the journey both scenic and rewarding. Osorio said preparations begin weeks in advance, with bikes serviced and safety gear checked to ensure a smooth ride.
The road to Salalah brings its own challenges – long hours of riding, unpredictable weather and occasional mechanical problems – but the group sees these as part of the experience.
'It is always a pleasure to have bikers from around the world of different nationalities join us,' Osorio said.
Trails and Dust has also grown its network through an online registration platform, attracting newcomers who want to experience the camaraderie and freedom of the open road.
The group's next big event will be on August 15 and 16, with 15 members confirmed to take part in what is expected to be their largest single ride of the season. Osorio called it 'a fitting celebration of our shared passion, marking another milestone in our journey'.
