Roisin Black hails teammate Ailish O'Reilly as ‘one of Galway's most consistent players ever' after Tipp win

RÓISÍN Black hailed Ailish O'Reilly as the understated but most consistent force behind Galway's latest All-Ireland camogie push. O'Reilly is in pursuit of a fourth All-Ireland medal, having scored a goal in the 2013 decider, two in 2019 and slotted a couple of points in 2021. The four-time All-Star from Oranmore/Maree got four points at the weekend. Her pass to Niamh Mallon sent the Portaferry native away for a brilliant 39th-minute goal that gave the Tribeswomen the breathing space to see it out and set up a repeat of Black said: 'She's my clubmate. Praise for her own role as part of that stifling defence was deflected. Black countered: 'It comes from Sarah Healy in goals, all the way out. Our job is to deliver good ball to the forwards and they do a great job of keeping it up there.' Indeed, the keeper showed the benefit of all her experience with some solid work between the posts after a mis-control of a poor shot from Karen Kennedy resulted in a Premier goal in the 26th minute. You just can never be complacent against a team like that and I suppose a small bit we were and they came back. "But we've a lot of hard work done and we've girls coming off the bench there and they finished it off strong for us in the second half.' Manager Cathal Murray loved what he saw from his players after that sticky patch. After leading his side to a fifth All-Ireland decider having won two of the previous four, he added: 'We showed huge resilience. "To put in a performance like that with players who weren't on the team last year but have really, really stepped up to the plate, that is massive for the group. Niamh Mallon's goal makes the difference as Galway book spot in All-Ireland camogie final with win over Tipperary

NIAMH MALLON'S goal gave Galway the daylight they needed as the Tribeswomen set up an All-Ireland camogie final rematch with old foes Cork. The Westerners were deserving winners but did not have it all their own way at Nowlan Park. Tipperary fought to the end and it took a sensational block by Tribe corner-back Dervla Higgins to deny Jean Kelly a goal that might have made for a nervy finish. When Mallon pointed off the stick via keeper Laura Leenane's hurley in the 25th minute, Galway seemed Croke Park-bound, 0-8 to 0-2 in front and full value for their lead. Tipp had lost full-back Karin Blair to injury at the end of the first quarter but a speculative shot by her defensive colleague Karen Kennedy in the 26th minute was miscontrolled into the net by Galway keeper Sarah Healy. Suddenly, all the momentum was with Denis Kelly's Premier. Casey Heffernan and Eimear Heffernan shot scores and Grace O'Brien brought her tally to four points from placed balls. Galway hold off Waterford second half comeback to book All-Ireland semi-final spot

TG4 All-Ireland Ladies SFC quarter-final: Galway 1-18 Waterford 1-12 Galway are through to a second successive TG4 All-Ireland senior semi-final following this six point victory over Waterford in Tuam Stadium on Saturday. A Kate Slevin first half penalty laid the platform for Daniel Moynihan's charges as they went nine points clear but Lauren McGregor's strike early in the second period breathed new life in the Deise challenge. Galway got off to the perfect start with Eva Noone pointing after 45 seconds. And the hosts followed that up with three more for Olivia Divilly, Ailbhe Davoren and a Slevin free. The Tribeswomen created their best chance when Chellene Trill blasted wide on 10 minutes. But Galway got their goal just two minutes later after Davoren fed Slevin. The Claregalway forward found Eva Noone who won a penalty which Slevin converted. Galway were 1-4 to 0-0 clear but Waterford nearly made a breakthrough when Chloe Fennell and Áine O'Neill were denied by a double save from keeper Dearbhla Gower and Bronagh Quinn. McGregor put the rebound over before Divilly restored Galway's seven point cushion. The sides shared the next four white flags before the break leaving it 1-7 to 0-3 at half-time. Galway maintained the momentum after the restart with Divilly adding two points. But McGregor and Bríd McMaugh reduced arrears to 1-9 to 0-5 on 34 minutes. Galway pulled 1-12 to 0-6 clear as Slevin (2) and Davoren tallied against McGregor's sole response. But the latter brought Waterford back to life when she struck her seventh goal of the championship after good play down the middle through Hannah Power and Aileen Wall. Waterford put Galway on the back foot as points for McMaugh (2) and McGregor left the Munster finalists just 1-14 to 1-9 behind. Eva Noone and Slevin got the Galway minors but two more added through Divilly and Slevin restored a seven point cushion on 51 minutes. After McGregor added a Waterford free, substitute Roisin Leonard landed two between the posts to effectively secure Galway's semi-final date with Dublin. TG4 All-Ireland Senior Championship: Galway 1-13 Tipperary 0-7 Connacht champions Galway began their TG4 All-Ireland Senior Championship campaign with an impressive second quarter in Tuam Stadium to run out comfortable nine point victors over Tipperary. The Tribeswomen did the damage with 1-8 unanswered, including Leanne Coen's goal, to lead 1-10 to 0-1 at half-time but Tipperary put in a much improved second half display. Galway took the stiff wind at the start and opened on two minutes with Louise Ward slotting over. Olivia Divilly also got off the mark in the sixth minute. It wasn't one way traffic as Tipperary dropped a couple of balls towards Aishling Moloney. Caitlin Kennedy also struck low but off target. However, a free won by Ava Fennessy on 18 minutes led to Moloney converting a free. That was after a seven minute hold up when Galway attacker Shauna Hynes was injured. Her replacement was 2024 captain Ailbhe Davoren who also played a pivotal role. The key score was the goal on 22 minutes. That being said, they did drop three dangerous balls towards the opposing square but keeper Dearbhla Gower showed good hands.
