WWE touts record-shattering performance of AAA Triplemania 33

On Saturday night (Aug. 16) in Mexico City, AAA ran their version of WrestleMania for the first time since WWE's purchase of the lucha libre promotion. Triplemania XXXIII streamed free on YouTube (and on three different channels: WWE's, WWE Espanol's, and AAA's), and featured several WWE talents on the card — with more making surprise appearances during the event. As they are wont to do even when they're not in 'wrestling war' mode, WWE sent out a press release the Monday after the show making much of Triplemania's impressive performance on several key business metrics. There's a word for that… it somehow escapes me right now. Extol? Acclaim? Gosh, I was way off. Daniel Bryan Danielson must be ashamed of me. Here's the presser, presented by Tout: Triplemania XXXIII shatters records for viewership, gate, merchandise and social engagement August 18, 2025 – TripleManía XXXIII, Mexican lucha libre promotion AAA's largest annual event, became the most-viewed and highest-grossing TripleManía in event history. Streamed globally on WWE and AAA's YouTube channels in Spanish and English, the broadcast has been watched by more than 4.3 million viewers in the first 24 hours and hit a peak live concurrent audience of 614,000. With a crowd of 19,691 at the Arena CDMX in Mexico City this past Saturday, TripleManía marked the highest attendance for any Mexican lucha libre show this year and set AAA's all-time gate record. Additionally, the event broke records for the highest-ever merchandise sales in AAA history. On X, #Triplemania was the No.1 trending topic in the United States and Mexico on Saturday, and a record 208 million views were generated across official AAA and WWE social platforms. The record-breaking event was highlighted by El Hijo del Vikingo defeating Dragon Lee, Dominik Mysterio and El Grande Americano to retain the AAA Mega Championship, Pagano & Psycho Clown defeating Angel & Berto to win the AAA Tag Team Championship, El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. defeating El Mesias to win the Latin American Championship, and more. WWE has acquired leading Mexican lucha libre promotion AAA in partnership with Mexico-based sports and entertainment holding company, Fillip. Now go forth and Tout about it, if you so choose.

AAA Triplemania XXXIII preview: WWE stars challenge for titles in new era

AAA's biggest show of the year is here. Triplemania XXXIII is set to rock on Saturday night (Aug. 16, 2025) from Mexico City with several WWE stars in title matches. It is an interesting time for AAA, because WWE has taken control after purchasing the lucha libre company. If new fans want to jump in to watching the AAA, now is as good a time as any. There is basically zero learning curve for the storylines at Triplemania this year. The full card for Triplemania includes: AAA Mega Championship: Hijo del Vikingo (c) vs. Dragon Lee vs. El Grande Americano vs. Dominik Mysterio AAA World Tag Team Championship: Angel Garza & Humberto Carrillo (c) vs. Psycho Clown & Pagano in a street fight Niño Hamburguesa, Mr. Iguana, & Lola Vice vs. Finn Balor, JD McDonagh, & Raquel Rodriguez AAA Reina de Reinas Championship: Flammer (c) vs. Faby Apache vs. Natalya AAA Latin American Championship: El Mesias (c) vs. El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. La Copa Bardahl Hijo del Vikingo is the top champion of AAA. The match was set up when Dragon Lee issued a singles challenge. El Grande Americano butt in to expand the challenge. Dominik Mysterio made a surprise appearance to ambush Vikingo and Dragon Lee. That made it a four-way dance for Triplemania. Simple as that. It will be interesting to see if WWE makes the call to crown one of their own wrestlers. Vikingo has been receiving less support as a babyface lately. Part of that is due to being overshadowed by the superstar power of Alberto Del Rio. Vikingo feuded with El Patron to win the mega title. The booking did him no favors to be presented on that same level inside the ring. Even though Alberto was a ruthless rudo, many people still rooted for him over Vikingo. El Grande Americano and Dirty Dom are both well-received by the crowd, despite also being bad guys. All that to say it is anyone's guess on who will win. Los Garza won the AAA tag titles in a four-way bout. Psycho Clown and Pagano did the work to set up the pin, then Angel and Berto swooped in to take the glory. It is now time for payback in a street fight. Dom was concerned about Niño Hamburguesa and Mr. Iguana trifling in his business, so he asked the Judgment Day to watch his back. The crew obliged and even set up a mixed trios tag team bout. Flammer holds the women's championship in AAA. Natalya has great respect for Faby Apache, but there is also a competitive edge between the two. Flammer observed the tension brewing, and she welcomed them to try to take the title. This is another case where anyone could win. Flammer is popular as a ruda champion. Plus, she has Las Toxicas (La Hiedra and Lady Maravilla) watching her back. Faby is one of the biggest stars in the history of the AAA women's division and a four-time Reina de Reinas champion. Natalya represents WWE, and that company calls the shots. El Mesias reigns as champion of Latin America. El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. is due for a big win to establish himself in the pecking order of AAA. El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. is a star in his own right, but he doesn't have the signature moment yet since coming aboard full-time this year. La Copa Bardahl is a match similar to the Royal Rumble. Bardahl refers to the sponsorship from the automotive company of that name. This match will be a way to get wrestlers on the card and deliver a handful of surprises. The big mystery will be if Alberto makes an appearance at Triplemania XXXIII. After a falling out with heel authority figure Dorian Roldan, El Patron was fired in storyline due to losing to El Mesias. It is unclear if Alberto is actually gone from the company. He brings money from the Mexican fanbase, however, he has a checkered past that WWE may shy away from when promoting AAA in the USA. Triplemania has a decent card on paper. Intrigue is strong to see how WWE presents the show in the new era of ownership. Lucha libre action will be delivered. The wrestling in general should be entertaining. It is questionable how much of the AAA experience will remain intact. Triplemania is traditionally a wild spectacle. It straddles the fine line between good, bad, and so bad that it is good. If you know, you know. This card looks like a sanitized version. Production should be more polished. The storylines are basic without any major grudges. The tag team street fight might be the only one to fit into that crazy style, because Pagano is a crapshoot all himself. Triplemania airs live on YouTube (here) at 9 pm ET.
