Donald Trump Names Kennedy Center Honors Nominees: Full List
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. President Donald Trump on Wednesday announced his first slate of Kennedy Center Honors nominees as the institution's new chairman, naming country music star George Strait, "Rocky" actor Sylvester Stallone, singer Gloria Gaynor, rock band KISS, and actor-singer Michael Crawford. Trump also said he will host this year's awards program. During his first term, Trump avoided the ceremony after several artists vowed not to attend in protest. Now, as chairman, he has replaced the center's board of trustees with loyalists. On Truth Social Tuesday, Trump teased a possible name change for the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, jokingly referring to it as the "Trump/Kennedy Center." He promised to restore the venue to "the absolute TOP LEVEL of luxury, glamour, and entertainment," noting that renovations were underway. "It had fallen on hard times, physically, BUT WILL SOON BE MAKING A MAJOR COMEBACK!!!" he wrote. The Kennedy Center said in a statement it was "honored" to host Trump, who will be making his third visit since January, and hinted at an upcoming construction announcement. The center credited Trump's "advocacy" for planned renovations aimed at restoring its "prestige and grandeur," and said it was excited to reveal "this year's INCREDIBLE slate of Kennedy Center Honorees." Trump has long been critical of the venue's condition, calling it in "tremendous disrepair" during a March visit. The process for selecting this year's honorees remains unclear; traditionally, a bipartisan advisory committee has made the picks. The Kennedy Center did post a teaser on social media: "Coming Soon ... A country music icon, an Englishman, a New York City rock band, a dance Queen and a multi-billion dollar Actor walk into the Kennedy Center Opera House ..." Trump has previously floated honoring singer-songwriter Paul Anka and Stallone, one of three actors he named as Hollywood ambassadors earlier this year. Anka was once slated to perform at Trump's 2017 inauguration but withdrew at the last moment. Established in 1978, the Kennedy Center Honors have recognized a wide array of artists, with presidents of both parties traditionally attending the ceremony—regardless of politics. In 2017, after honoree Norman Lear refused to attend a White House celebration over Trump's proposed arts funding cuts, Trump and First Lady Melania Trump skipped the event and stayed away for the rest of his first term. Since returning to office, Trump has taken a more hands-on approach—naming himself chairman, reshaping the board, asserting control over programming, and vowing to end events featuring drag performers. These moves have prompted backlash, with several artists canceling appearances, including the producers of Hamilton, actor Issa Rae, singer Rhiannon Giddens, and author Louise Penny. In July, House Republicans added an amendment to a spending bill—signed by Trump—to rename the Kennedy Center's Opera House after Melania Trump, though the change has not been made. Separately, a House proposal to rename the entire center after Trump drew criticism from Maria Shriver, niece of President Kennedy, who called it "insane." Honorees receive a rainbow-ribboned medallion symbolizing the diversity of the performing arts. In April, the center changed its exterior lighting from a long-standing rainbow pattern to a permanent red, white, and blue display. This is a breaking news story. Updates to follow.

Trump Responds to AOC's Impeachment Threat With Deranged Rant
President Trump went on a wordy, meandering rant against Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez after the congresswoman called for his impeachment. 'Stupid AOC, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, one of the 'dumbest' people in Congress, is now calling for my Impeachment, despite the fact that the Crooked and Corrupt Democrats have already done that twice before. The reason for her 'rantings' is all of the Victories that the U.S.A. has had under the Trump Administration,' the president wrote on Truth Social Tuesday. AOC called for Trump's impeachment over his bombing of Iran without congressional approval. 'The President's disastrous decision to bomb Iran without authorization is a grave violation of the Constitution and Congressional War Powers. He has impulsively risked launching a war that may ensnare us for generations,' she wrote Saturday on X. 'It is absolutely and clearly grounds for impeachment.' Trump was obviously bothered by this statement, and he went on to sully the name of AOC and several other progressive women of color in the Democratic Party. 'When we examine her Test Scores, we will find out that she is NOT qualified for office but, nevertheless, far more qualified than Crockett, who is a seriously Low IQ individual, or Ilhan Omar, who does nothing but complain about our Country, yet the Failed Country that she comes from doesn't have a Government, is drenched in Crime and Poverty, and is rated one of the WORST in the World, if it's even rated at all. How dare 'The Mouse' tells us how to run the United States of America! We're just now coming back from that Radical Left experiment with Sleepy Joe, Kamala, and 'THE AUTOPEN,' in charge. What a disaster it was!' he continued on. He then dared AOC to take the same dementia test he once did. 'AOC should be forced to take the Cognitive Test that I just completed at Walter Reed Medical Center, as part of my Physical. As the Doctor in charge said, 'President Trump ACED it,' meaning, I got every answer right,' Trump wrote. 'Instead of her constant complaining, Alexandria should go back home to Queens, where I was also brought up, and straighten out her filthy, disgusting, crime ridden streets, in the District she 'represents,' and which she never goes to anymore. She better start worrying about her own Primary, before she thinks about beating our Great Palestinian Senator, Cryin' Chuck Schumer, whose career is definitely on very thin ice! She and her Democrat friends have just hit the Lowest Poll Numbers in Congressional History, so go ahead and try Impeaching me, again, MAKE MY DAY!' 'Mr. President, don't take your anger out on me - I'm just a silly girl,' AOC responded on X. 'Take it out on whoever convinced you to betray the American people and our Constitution by illegally bombing Iran and dragging us into war. It only took you 5 months to break almost every promise you made.' There is certainly a question of Trump's impulsiveness here, as receiving congressional approval for the Iran nuclear strikes would have made it look like he wasn't acting wantonly during the conflict. But he didn't and now he's got members of Congress on both sides of the aisle scrambling to craft War Powers Act resolutions. But for what it's worth, calls for Trump's impeachment on those grounds feel empty, as former Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden both dropped thousands of bombs on various nations without receiving congressional approval. Who exactly is allowed to who is allowed to drop bombs on another country without congressional approval, and when do we decide to deem that an act of war? This article has been updated.

Trump: Israel is not going to attack Iran
US President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social Tuesday, claiming that 'Israel' will not move forward with a planned strike on Iran and that the ceasefire between the two nations remains in effect. In his post, Trump wrote, "ISRAEL is not going to attack Iran. All planes will turn around and head home, while doing a friendly 'Plane Wave' to Iran. Nobody will be hurt, the Ceasefire is in effect! Thank you for your attention to this matter! DONALD J. TRUMP, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES." The statement came amid rising concerns of a renewed military confrontation between the two regional adversaries, following alleged violations of the fragile truce. Trump, who previously took credit for brokering the ceasefire, appeared to signal that immediate conflict had been averted.
