Tuesdays with Gorney: Ten big commitments that defined the weekend

Nick Lucero/ During the first weekend of June visits, there were 33 Power Four commitments. That exploded during the second weekend with 54 pledges from Friday through Sunday night. Rivals national recruiting director Adam Gorney looks at the 10 most impactful commitments of the weekend in this edition of Tuesdays With Gorney. Advertisement RECRUITING RUMOR MILL: Gigantic June rolls on as visits continue CLASS OF 2026 RANKINGS: Rivals250 | Team | Position | State CLASS OF 2027 RANKINGS: Rivals250 | Team | Position | State TRANSFER PORTAL: Full coverage | Player ranking | Team ranking | Transfer search | Transfer Tracker RIVALS CAMP SERIES: Rivals Five-Star heading back to Indy | Rivals Five-Star roster | Schedule/info FAVOUR AKIH - Ohio State Over the last few months, Ohio State, Miami and USC emerged as the three front-runners for Akih and then down the stretch it was the Buckeyes and Hurricanes, but the national champs were always going to be tough to beat. Advertisement Once the four-star running back from Delaware (Ohio) Rutherford B. Hayes got that Ohio State offer, it emerged as the leader and finally landed his commitment over the weekend. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH OHIO STATE FANS AT DYLAN BERYMON - Texas Berymon has had some surprises in his recruitment. The four-star defensive tackle from Monroe (La.) Ouachita never seemed to connect with LSU so Texas, Purdue and USC were the three front-runners. It looked like the Trojans were ahead for a while and then the Boilermakers emerged because of his connection to position coach Kelvin Green. But over the weekend, Texas turned it up on Berymon and he picked the Longhorns, adding a muscled-up, tough interior defensive lineman to the class. Advertisement SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH TEXAS FANS AT JABARI BRADY - Missouri Brady has been all over the recruiting and rankings radar throughout this cycle as he settled into being a four-star prospect but outside the Rivals250. Missouri beat out Nebraska, North Carolina and others for the Coconut Creek (Fla.) Monarch standout. He gives off vibes of Theo Wease Jr. during his time in Columbia – a big target who will catch a lot of passes; not a burner but explodes by defenders. Brady is a weapon and another big win for coach Eli Drinkwitz and staff. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH MISSOURI FANS AT KOHEN BROWN - Texas Could USC's loss be Texas' gain? Brown and the Trojans parted ways when the four-star receiver from Waxahachie, Texas, wanted to take visits. The Longhorns, Ole Miss, Notre Dame, Illinois, Utah, Colorado, SMU and Baylor then emerged as the serious contenders. Advertisement It really came down to Texas and Notre Dame for Brown and he picked the Longhorns over the weekend, giving an already loaded receiver room another big weapon. PEYTON DYER - USC How many will USC take this recruiting class? The No. 1 class in the country has 28 commitments after adding Dyer over the weekend as the four-star DB from Duluth, Ga., joins an absolutely loaded defensive back haul that includes five-star Elbert Hill and four-star Brandon Lockhart among many others. Word started leaking out over the weekend that USC could land Dyer, an early South Carolina commit who said Georgia was the team to beat, and by Sunday it was done. Advertisement SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH USC FANS AT AIDEN HARRIS - South Carolina In the closing weeks before his weekend commitment, Harris had South Carolina and NC State as the two front-runners after things with Ohio State slowed. The high four-star defensive end from Matthews (N.C.) Weddington made it clear throughout his recruitment that he wanted to play with his twin brother, Andrew, so that could have shaped his recruitment even more. The Gamecocks have only eight commitments but six are four-stars so there is a lot more quality than quantity right now. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH SOUTH CAROLINA FANS AT ANDREW HARRIS - South Carolina Penn State was an option for the Harris Bros., and Auburn and NC State official visits were scheduled. But South Carolina was a favorite of both throughout their recruitment as it ended with commitments over the weekend. Advertisement When things slowed down with Ohio State in recent weeks, the Gamecocks jumped up even further. Since the brothers wanted to play together, South Carolina became a great option. IZAYAH LEE - Vanderbilt This was a surprise commitment over the weekend because the four-star running back from Lancaster, Texas, was tagged to a program much closer to home. Lee had taken a visit to TCU but SMU was really the front-runner in his recruitment. He is from the South Dallas area, he was a main priority for the Mustangs and Lee made it no secret that he was highly interested in the program. Vanderbilt landed a weekend pledge but will have to fight off SMU and others down the stretch. Advertisement SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH VANDERBILT FANS AT JAMARKUS PITTMAN - Ole Miss After working out at Ole Miss in recent days and spending a lot of time with position coach Randall Joyner, the Rebels offered the 2027 four-star defensive tackle from Memphis (Tenn.) Memphis Academy and he made it no secret they were a front-runner. Pittman said Ole Miss was 'for sure up there' and he didn't waste a lot of time as he was committed to the Rebels just days later. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH OLE MISS FANS AT MICAH SMITH - UCLA UCLA pulled off a major recruiting victory over the weekend when the four-star offensive lineman from Vero Beach, Fla., picked the Bruins over Alabama, Illinois, Ohio State, South Carolina and Tennessee. What really pushed UCLA to the front was his visit to Westwood in recent weeks that completely blew him away. He's now become a big-time recruiter for this UCLA class on social media but the in-state schools and programs across the Southeast won't give up. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH UCLA FANS AT

Tuesdays with Gorney: Ten biggest pledges from the weekend

Fernando Mendoza sits down with Nicole Auerbach to discuss his decision to transfer to Indiana and play for coach Curt Cignetti, competing alongside his brother and fellow QB, Alberto, and his proud Cuban ancestry. There were 33 Power Four commitments on Saturday and Sunday as the wildly busy month of June kicked off, with many more trickling in Monday as players returned home from visits. In today's Tuesdays With Gorney, Rivals national recruiting director Adam Gorney highlights 10 of the most important pledges over the weekend. RECRUITING RUMOR MILL: June kicks off with a bang | Baltimore | Detroit NEW RIVALS250 RELEASED: Ranking | Top storylines | Ten prospects who could rise with a big June CLASS OF 2026 RANKINGS: Rivals250 | Team | Position | State CLASS OF 2027 RANKINGS: Rivals250 | Team | Position | State TRANSFER PORTAL: Full coverage | Player ranking | Team ranking | Transfer search | Transfer Tracker RIVALS CAMP SERIES: Rivals Five-Star heading back to Indy | Rivals Five-Star roster | Schedule/info Only a few months ago at the Rivals Camp Series stop in Los Angeles, Benjamin had Arkansas, Nebraska and Utah as his three front-runners with Oklahoma State also in the mix. Nary a word was mentioned about Minnesota. But the Golden Gophers do great with players like Benjamin – huge offensive linemen who can use some tweaking and some weight on them to become even better players. At 6-foot-8 and 314 pounds, the three-star offensive lineman from Lehi (Utah) Skyridge is filled with potential that could be tapped within the Minnesota program. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH MINNESOTA FANS AT A few weeks ago at Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy, Carr told Rivals national recruiting analyst John Garcia Jr. that he wanted to take his recruitment to December and that he wasn't in a rush to make a decision. Over the weekend, he committed to Florida on his opening official visit of the month as the Gators beat out Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Colorado and many others. It could get interesting if Carr decides to take his other trips but the Gators landed a powerful interior offensive lineman who will help in Gainesville. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH FLORIDA FANS AT 1ST AND TEN FLORIDA A few months ago, USC had become a contender for Day after it offered the four-star safety from Las Vegas (Nev.) Faith Lutheran. Arizona, Iowa, Texas A&M and many others were involved but Washington emerged as the main contender prior to his visit. There was some chatter that if things went well in Seattle, he would commit and that's exactly what happened. Day could be one of the next big defensive backs in a long line that have played for the Huskies. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH WASHINGTON FANS AT The Pennsylvania state rankings are loaded at the top with elite offensive linemen but Duell should not be overlooked as the four-star from West Chester (Pa.) West Chester East committed to Rutgers over Cincinnati, Kentucky, Pittsburgh and others over the weekend. At 6-foot-6 and 290 pounds, Duell can push people around and he also has great athleticism to get to the second level. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH RUTGERS FANS AT Arizona State was a major early contender but Cal continued to pursue the Murrieta (Calif.) Murrieta Valley high three-star offensive lineman and his connection to position coach Famika Anae was a big selling point in his weekend commitment to the Golden Bears. Faamatuaniu stepped up his game in a big way at the recent Rivals Camp Series in Los Angeles and he has position versatility so he can be used all over in Berkeley. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH CAL FANS AT Fresh off a visit to Auburn that went really well and with Oregon, Arizona and UNLV making a serious push for the versatile high three-star offensive tackle from Las Vegas (Nev.) Clark, Harris committed to Washington during his weekend trip. The Huskies were always in the forefront of his recruitment but it was expected he might take more visits before deciding. Harris is massive at 6-foot-7 and 320 pounds, but it wouldn't be a shock if he played inside. His brother, Lawson, plays at Georgia. His father and two uncles played for Georgia. It always felt inevitable that the four-star defensive end from Norcross, Ga., would end up playing for the Bulldogs and his commitment happened over the weekend on yet another trip to Athens. Luckie was just on campus for the recent Scavenger Hunt and his relationship with position coach Tray Scott was big as well. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH GEORGIA FANS AT Despite being from Norman (Okla.) North, Oklahoma never offered McMorris as the long-time Minnesota lean picked the Golden Gophers over Oregon State, Tulsa, Kansas State and Iowa State over the weekend. There are some traits here that we love as McMorris is 6-foot-6 and 270 pounds so he's not completely filled out yet, plus he has really long arms. All that should bode well in the coming years. His father played at Maryland and his brother went to Duke but neither program ended up offering the high three-star offensive lineman from Leland (N.C.) North Brunswick. That is to Rutgers' gain as his relationship with the coaching staff there played a huge role in his commitment as the Scarlet Knights loaded up over the weekend with six pledges. A couple weeks ago at the Long Beach Millikan Tournament of Champions, Tavizon was not hiding his favorites: Oregon was the front-runner and the Ducks would be tough to beat and then there was also serious interest in USC. But the 2027 four-star from San Diego (Calif.) Lincoln was always leaning toward the Ducks and on his weekend visit, he committed. As an edge rusher or a linebacker, Tavizon brings a ton of versatility to that defense. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH OREGON FANS AT

Tuesdays with Gorney: Commitment predictions for 2026 five-stars

With No. 1 overall prospect Jackson Cantwell coming off the board this afternoon, Rivals national recruiting director Adam Gorney takes a look – and makes a prediction - on the remaining five-stars in today's Tuesdays With Gorney. RUMOR MILL: Decisions on deck for top prospects CLASS OF 2025 RANKINGS: Rivals250 | Team | Position | State CLASS OF 2026 RANKINGS: Rivals250 | Team | Position | State CLASS OF 2027 RANKINGS: Rivals250 | Team | Position | State TRANSFER PORTAL: Full coverage | Player ranking | Team ranking | Transfer search | Transfer Tracker With the flip of Jonas Williams to USC and five-star quarterback Jared Curtis to Georgia, Oregon has had some unfortunate quarterback news this cycle. But the Ducks could end up winning big in the end because this opens up a clear pathway for Lyons to play there and be sold on being an ever better version of Bo Nix. Advertisement Michigan and BYU are the other front-runners with USC, Ole Miss and Ohio State lingering but Oregon does look strong here. Prediction: Oregon There have been multiple leaders along the way for Iheanacho as Maryland and Georgia have held that mantle and now Oregon looks like the team to beat. But he's had great visits to Penn State and elsewhere so there is a wild card factor when it comes to his recruitment. The Ducks missing out on Cantwell further puts Iheanacho in the spotlight as a must-get offensive tackle for Oregon in this class and if signing day was right now, the Ducks would win out. Prediction: Oregon A top list of front-runners has been released but the word has been that USC, Oregon and Texas A&M have taken the lead in his recruitment. The two-way speedster from Spring Valley (Calif.) Mount Miguel has been tagged to the Aggies for some time. Advertisement But Oregon has been surging, especially after recent visits and track could be playing a factor here as well. Prediction: Oregon A top six of Auburn, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Colorado and Clemson has emerged for the Alexander City (Ala.) Benjamin Russell five-star receiver and the Crimson Tide have become the favorite to land him ahead of his July 2 decision. Morgan had an excellent visit to Colorado over the weekend but coach Deion Sanders was not in town apparently because of an emergency so that could be unfortunate if the Buffaloes were looking to surprise. Alabama just makes too much sense here. Advertisement Prediction: Alabama The five-star offensive tackle had great visits to Ole Miss, Colorado and Texas Tech recently – the last one being a late surprise trip to Lubbock – but this still very much feels like a two-team race between Texas and Ohio State. There are any number of reasons why he would choose the Buckeyes but it really feels like the Longhorns have jumped ahead for the Mansfield (Texas) Lake Ridge standout and getting Kelvin Banks Jr. inside the top 10 of the NFL Draft cannot hurt. Prediction: Texas Miami has to like where it's sitting for the five-star running back out of Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade Madonna as the Hurricanes have done everything right up to this point to eventually land the versatile offensive five-star. Advertisement But Georgia (where Cooper had been committed briefly) and Ohio State are looming large. Texas should not be overlooked when it comes down to decision time, either. Prediction: Miami There have been some significant changes at the top for the five-star safety from Baltimore (Md.) St. Frances in a list of front-runners that continues to see changes. Georgia is now the team to beat for Edwards along with Alabama and Oregon after Texas A&M had been the top program to watch. Edwards could now be Georgia's to lose. Prediction: Georgia Alabama, USC, LSU and Texas A&M are the four battling it out for the reclassified five-star receiver from DeSoto, Texas, who plans to commit on July 4. It really might be a battle between the Aggies and the Tigers down the stretch, though, and after the feeling was for a while that Feaster would pick LSU (since he's from Shreveport and has always had an affinity for playing receiver there) it now looks like Texas A&M has the lead heading into the final weeks. Advertisement Prediction: Texas A&M Georgia leads the pack, although other SEC programs are not going away, Ohio State continues to be very intriguing in his recruitment and Clemson, Oregon and others are hanging around. The Loganville (Ga.) Grayson standout has visited UGA numerous times. He continues to build a strong bond with coach Kirby Smart and defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann. The Dawgs just don't lose on a lot of these guys. Prediction: Georgia Alabama has been perceived as the front-runner for some time in Jones' recruitment and that has not changed for the five-star edge rusher from Mobile (Ala.) St. Paul's as the offseason wears on. Advertisement But there will be significant competition from Auburn, Oregon and others before Jones signs with a program. Alabama will be tough to beat, sure, but it won't be on cruise control for the Crimson Tide. Prediction: Alabama

Tuesdays with Gorney: Recapping a busy weekend of major commits

It was not a blockbuster weekend of commitments but there were still some major ones all the way through Monday when a five-star quarterback came off the board . In today's Tuesdays With Gorney, Rivals national recruiting director Adam Gorney gives his thoughts on each one here. MORE ON JARED CURTIS: Recruiting ripple effect | What this means for UGA | Top recruits react | Behind the scenes RIVALS CAMP SERIES DALLAS: Position MVPs | Ranking the QBs | Rumor Mill | Programs that should be pleased NEW 2026 RIVALS250 RELEASED: Ranking | Gorney goes position-by-position | Toughest decisions Throughout the latter part of his recruitment, Colman-Brusa remained steadfast that he was still open to all programs and after important visits to Ohio State and Oregon in recent weeks, it looked like the four-star edge rusher was open to others. But Washington was always going to be the program to beat since the Burien (Wash.) Kennedy standout lives just miles from campus. His brother, Lowen , already plays for the Huskies and that coaching staff has made him a priority as well. Big and strong off the edge or coming from the middle, Colman-Brusa has speed and power. He can play anywhere across the defensive line. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH WASHINGTON FANS AT JARED CURTIS - Georgia After an early commitment to Georgia , Curtis backed off his pledge not because he had a falling out with the Bulldogs but because he wanted to go through his recruitment with an open mind. South Carolina emerged as a real contender along with many others but then it narrowed back down to Georgia and Oregon. On Monday evening, the five-star quarterback from Nashville (Tenn.) Nashville Christian picked the Dawgs again. It's another huge win for Georgia as Curtis is one of the top quarterbacks in the class and it's always so difficult to get an elite player re-committed. Oregon offered a ton and there was a time where it looked like the Ducks had the edge but after numerous visits, being sold on playing in the SEC, closer to home and reinforcing why he committed there in the first place, coach Kirby Smart and his staff won out again. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH GEORGIA FANS AT KAYDEN DIXON-WYATT - Ohio State In late March, the high four-star receiver told me that Ohio State was No. 1 on his list followed by Oregon. Georgia, Texas and USC rounded out a top five but it was essentially a two-team race for the Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei star receiver. Heading into Sunday's decision, it appeared that the Ducks might have eclipsed the Buckeyes, especially after a great visit back to Eugene. But that was not the case as Ohio State won out again. In front of five-star teammate and fellow Ohio State pledge Chris Henry Jr. and many others, Dixon-Wyatt picked the Buckeyes. The rich get only richer as they have an absolutely loaded receiver class again. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH OHIO STATE FANS AT HUDSON DUNN - Minnesota This is an under-the-radar great commitment for Minnesota . Early on, Michigan and Oregon were the front-runners for Dunn and then Arizona State looked like the team to beat for the high three-star edge rusher from Peoria (Ariz.) Liberty. But the Golden Gophers continued to have a great relationship with Dunn. He visited over the weekend and was sold. A back-to-back state champion, Dunn had 57 tackles and 13.5 sacks last season. Even though he's a little undersized as an edge rusher he's super fast and productive. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH MINNESOTA FANS AT BRAYLON EDWARDS - SMU When SMU coach Rhett Lashlee talked to Rivals during signing day, he made it clear that he wanted to lock up the top talent in the Dallas Metroplex and that's why Edwards is so big. The three-star cornerback can run with anybody, does a great job redirecting and then making a play on the ball. He is coming to the Mustangs from the loaded Duncanville program. SMU also beat out Auburn and North Carolina for Edwards and winning those huge recruiting battles is crucial as the Mustangs look to return to the College Football Playoff. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH SMU FANS AT MATTHIEU LAMAH - Penn State Sometimes, going where you're wanted and feel most comfortable is all that's needed. That was the feeling from the three-star linebacker from Nokesville (Va.) Patriot as Lamah (formerly Kanu) picked the Nittany Lions on Monday over Kentucky , Michigan, North Carolina, Rutgers and Virginia Tech . Lamah has developed an outstanding relationship with coach James Franklin, position coach Dan Connor and others. After 137 tackles, three sacks and three forced fumbles last season, production is not an issue with Lamah and we'll give a second look at his ranking moving forward. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH PENN STATE FANS AT DEMETRICE MCCRAY - Pitt The new Pitt receiver commit does an excellent job of changing up his speeds first to set up a cornerback and lull him to sleep and then accelerate by him for some big gainers. The three-star receiver only had 31 catches in his junior season but seven went for touchdowns. He has some game-breaker ability in the open field. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH PITT FANS AT ALJOUR MILES II - SMU Oklahoma State made a big move recently after a great visit to Stillwater and Oklahoma looked like the team to beat for Miles. That's why it's even bigger that SMU won out for Miles over the weekend. A four-star receiver outside the Rivals250, Miles is the first receiver in SMU's class but it's a strong group of skill players with Miles, RB Christian Rhodes and QB Cole Leinart leading the way. JASE REYNOLDS - Nebraska Reynolds has better tape than his offer list indicates. Maybe it was because a lot of programs didn't want to go through the effort since Nebraska was always the front-runner for the three-star from Elkhorn (Neb.) Elkhorn North or maybe because Reynolds just slipped through the cracks, but the Huskers are getting a good one. The local prospect (he lives about an hour away from Lincoln) had more than 90 tackles in his junior season. He can come off the edge or play in space and he does a great job reading and then quickly reacting, whether it's knocking down a pass or coming up to make the tackle. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH NEBRASKA FANS AT DAMARIUS YATES - Ole Miss Mississippi State landed an early commitment in the fall from Yates but by December, the four-star running back from De Kalb (Miss.) Kemper County backed off that pledge. His teammate, Mario Nash , ended up at Florida State and it looked like the Seminoles, Nebraska and others emerged as the favorites. Over the last few months, though, and after a concerted effort from the Ole Miss coaching staff including coach Lane Kiffin, Yates committed to the Rebels following a weekend visit. With more than 2,000 all-purpose yards last season, Yates should see opportunities to get the ball in Oxford. He is the second RB in the Ole Miss class, joining four-star Ja'Michael Jones .
