Shiv Shakti Actor Akshay Nalwade on his creative boundaries; says ‘I'm not comfortable taking up roles in bold content-driven projects'

Shiv Shakti: Tap Tyag Tandav actor Akshay Nalwade, currently seen playing Garud Dev in the popular mythological drama, believes in choosing work that upholds dignity and purpose. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The actor, known for his clear approach to career choices, revealed that he never hesitates to turn down roles that don't align with his values. 'I have turned down roles. Although I rarely say no to projects, I'm not comfortable taking up roles in bold content-driven projects. I'm a family-oriented person, and I want to be known for quality work and good content,' he stated firmly. Akshay shared that every role he accepts must pass through what he calls an 'ethical filter.' He explained, 'First, I assess whether the role respects human dignity—not just for my character, but for the overall narrative. I avoid roles that promote harmful stereotypes, unnecessary objectification, or glorify violence.' His boundaries are equally firm when it comes to physical exposure or intimate scenes. 'I respect my boundaries—creatively, ethically, and emotionally—because I believe that's what makes me a more authentic and responsible performer,' Akshay shared. Talking about his working style, he emphasized his collaborative approach. 'I always follow a principle: I discuss my perspective with the director and crew. Based on that conversation, I play the character as directed. I believe in working as per the director's vision. I do offer my inputs, but ultimately, I follow the captain's call,' he explained. When asked about his thoughts on women-centric roles, Akshay acknowledged the positive change. 'Films like Kahaani, Mardaani, Raazi, Queen, Tumhari Sulu, and Gangubai have portrayed women as decision-makers, fighters, survivors, and leaders. These characters are no longer one-dimensional—there's real depth,' he said. 'I do believe there's been a visible shift away from stereotypical portrayals of women as just love interests or homemakers,' Akshay concluded.

Vidya Balan recalls Akshaye Khanna's reaction after she rejected film opposite him, here's who she asked for help

Vidya Balan has come a long way. From playing endearing characters to picking up serious roles in films, the actress has proved her finesse and versatility. In a recent interaction with a media portal, she shared a hilarious anecdote from her early days of acting. Vidya recalled rejecting a film that featured her opposite Akshaye Khanna and revealed how the latter reacted to her saying 'no' to the project. Revisiting her journey and years-long career in the industry, the Do Aur Do Pyaar actress mentioned how she never wanted to hurt anyone by saying 'no' to any project. Vidya Balan shared, "There was a film offered to me opposite Akshaye Khanna, and for some reason, I didn't connect with the script. But I didn't pick up the phone and tell him that. I asked my manager to convey it to the director." The 46-year-old went on to share that when she met Akshaye on the sets of Salaam-e-Ishq, he fired her for rejecting the script, after which she ran to John Abraham for help. She asked to save her and opened up about not wanting to indulge in confrontation, hurt anyone's feelings, or make someone feel bad. "But eventually, he was only pulling my leg. I later realized," added Vidya. Furthermore, the Tumhari Sulu actress agreed to the fact that no one wants to hear 'no,' given that so much effort and time are invested into creating a script. Making a heartfelt confession, Balan stated that being married to a producer has made her realize the same even more than before. Spilling beans on the way to becoming honest, Vidya told the portal, "I'm not a rude person. I say it as it is, but I am aware of how much efforts go into developing a script and I value it." For the uninitiated, Vidya Balan was last seen in Bhool Bhulaiyya 3 alongside Madhuri Dixit and Kartik Aaryan. With a glorious career spanning decades, she is known for movies like Kahaani, The Dirty Picture, Ishqiya, and Parineeta.

'I want to be someone who has a voice,' says actor Neha Dhupia in Bengaluru

You may know her from 2000s comedies like Chup Chupke or Singh is Kinng, from her time as a model representing India in the Miss Universe pageant, or perhaps more recently, playing Vidya Balan's boss in 2017 hit Tumhari Sulu or an unabashedly sexy librarian in Lust Stories. Add to that her much-loved stints as a gang leader on several seasons of Roadies and her podcast-cum-YouTube show No Filter Neha, it's no stretch to call Neha Dhupia a beloved household name. Visiting the city as the showstopper for Max Kids Festival, she reflected on this gradual shift in focus from model-actor to reality TV star and popular host, saying, 'It's not a transition; in 2025, any number of mediums that you can explore – whether it's a podcast, television, fiction or non-fiction, whether it's playing characters in films – you should. After being in the business for over two decades now, I have to put myself in a box and at the same time, be out of the box. I want to be someone who has a voice and exercises it when necessary.' This confident and outspoken demeanour is evident than ever in Dhupia's return to Roadies for its Roadies Double Cross season after three years. 'My biggest victory has been coming back to the show and get ting the amount of love that I makes me want to keep coming back,' she says, adding, 'I'm always fighting for what I want to try and at no point do I want to hurt or harm anybody. The intention is always to encourage people.'
