Comedy has taken a back seat for now: Vandana Pathak
Vandana Pathak, famed for her comedic roles in shows like Khichdi, returns to television after a six-year break with Tumm Se Tumm Tak. After a six-year hiatus from television, Vandana Pathak is back on the small screen with Tumm Se Tumm Tak. The actress, who became a household name with popular shows like Khichdi and Ek Mahal Ho Sapno Ka, says she was happy to get back to television because she found the role interesting. Talking to Mumbai Mirror about her return, she says, 'My last show was Manmohini in 2019 with the same production house. It was a deliberate break that I took because my father-in-law wasn't well. I was very close to him and wanted to be with him. Unfortunately, he passed away, and after that, I didn't feel like getting back to work immediately.' The break led her towards the regional cinema. 'I got a Gujarati film offer (Golkeri), which did well. I started getting more Gujarati offers, which I took up. People are really enjoying regional content right now.' Known primarily for her comic timing, especially as Jayshree in Khichdi, the actress is now exploring more intense roles. She says, 'I have been offered a lot of comedy roles because of Khichdi, but I want to do something different now. Comedy has taken a back seat. I'm currently focused on other genres.' She adds, 'People still call me Jayshree, and I'm okay with it. That show gave me a lot. Another Khichdi film is in the pipeline. The writers are working on it, and I'm in touch with the cast. Apart from Khichdi, a show that is close to my heart is Ek Mahal Ho Sapno Ka — nothing like that has been written again.'

Sameer Patil on appearance pressure and shifting beauty norms in TV; says ‘Our face and body are tools to tell a story'
In an era where looks often speak louder than words, actor Sameer Patil , currently seen as Gopal Sharma in Tumm Se Tumm Tak, sheds light on the ongoing pressure around appearance in the Indian television industry. 'There's still a strong emphasis on appearance, no doubt,' says Sameer. 'In fact, the pressure has actually increased in some ways because of social media. You're expected to look good not just on screen but also off-screen—at events, airports, and even in casual Instagram posts.' However, he feels a slow yet meaningful shift is taking place. 'The definition of what 'looks good' is slowly evolving. There's more acceptance now for raw, real, and relatable faces, which wasn't the case a decade ago.' Sameer believes content is beginning to win over conventional beauty standards. 'It's slow, but it's definitely happening. Viewers are tired of unrealistic beauty standards and are connecting more with characters who look like people around them.' He adds, 'On both OTT platforms and television, many shows are now proving that strong content always trumps appearance.' At the same time, he admits that certain characters do demand a degree of visual appeal. 'Some roles demand a certain level of glamour because it's part of their personality or story arc. For example, a high-society influencer or a powerful businesswoman wouldn't hit the same way if the character wasn't styled glamorously. But the key is authenticity. Glamour should arise naturally from the character, not just be used to please the eye. ' On inclusivity in casting, Sameer notes growing progress. 'Characters with darker skin tones, different body types, or unconventional styling—it's a welcome shift. But we still have a long way to go.' He points out the next step: 'True inclusivity will be when leads can be of any body type or skin tone, without that being the 'point' of their character.' When it comes to experimenting with his own appearance, he says, 'Very open—that's part of the job! If a role requires me to put on weight, lose weight, tan my skin, or cut my hair short, I'm in.' 'As actors, our face and body are tools to tell a story. Limiting that just because we're worried about our off-screen image defeats the purpose of the craft. The goal is always to serve the character truthfully,' he concludes.

Niharika Chouksey on embracing simplicity in Tumm Se Tumm Tak; says 'Anu feels like home to me'
Actress Niharika Chouksey, who plays the grounded and relatable Anu in Tumm Se Tumm Tak, is winning hearts with her refreshingly unfiltered portrayal. For Niharika, stepping into Anu's shoes didn't feel like a challenge—it felt like slipping into something familiar. 'Playing Anu felt natural—because she's just like me,' Niharika shares. 'She's simple, sweet, and full of heart. I don't need to pretend with this role.' But I've realised you don't need to torture yourself. If I crave something, I eat it, and then I work out. That's how I stay sane.' Interestingly, the creative team behind the show encouraged her to retain her natural self. 'They said, 'If you want to eat vada pav, just eat it—we love your cheeks! They show innocence.' It made me realise glam isn't always necessary.' Contrasting her character with co-star Dolly Chawla 's Meera, who appears more polished, Niharika clarifies that every look is rooted in character logic. 'Meera is glamorous because the role demands it. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 20 Legendary Cars from the Past Undo Our show doesn't use tropes—it's all story-driven.' Dolly Chawla Call Her Character In Tumm Se Tumm Tak ‘Authoritative And Bossy'
Dolly Chawla opened up about how the role is unlike anything she's played before and quite the opposite of her real-life persona. Television actress Dolly Chawla is currently winning hearts in Zee TV's new-age gap romance drama Tumm Se Tumm Tak. Attracting attention for her portrayal of Meera, she is considered one of the most compelling aspects of the show. In a recent interview with a news agency, Dolly revealed that the role is unlike anything she has taken on before and is quite the opposite of her real-life personality. Speaking to IANS, Dolly said playing such a contrasting character was both challenging and exciting, as it allowed her to explore new dimensions as an actor. Dolly Chawla's Character Meera Is Possessive And Opposite Of Her Real-Life Persona Describing her character, Dolly shared, 'I am playing Meera, who handles everything related to Arya; his office, food, medicines and more. She doesn't like it when someone else gets close to Arya or when he gives them importance. Now that Anu has joined the office, Meera is getting jealous. She doesn't listen to anyone except her boss." She admitted the role is far from who she is in real life, but that's what made it exciting. 'People have loved me in my previous work, and I hope they give the same love to Meera, even if they hate her. I feel that every character should be challenging, only then do you truly enjoy playing it. This character is very different from my real-life personality, and that's what makes it exciting. It takes time to observe and adapt, but I am enjoying it," she stated. Why Dolly Chawla Said Yes To Tumm Se Tumm Tak Dolly also said that the production house, Studio LSD, played a big role in her decision. She mentioned, 'When I got a call from the production house, I was very excited. This production house feels like family to me, and I love them. When they called and briefed me about the character of Meera, I was thrilled. They also mentioned that this show already exists in seven languages, so there's definitely pressure to deliver a strong performance." Dolly, who has played negative roles before, called Meera 'authoritative and bossy." She said, 'I have done negative roles before, but this one is especially challenging. Meera is authoritative and bossy, which makes her quite different." Tumm Se Tumm Tak's Concept Set against the backdrop of an age-gap romance between Arya (played by Sharad Kelkar) and Anu (Niharika Chouksey), Tumm Se Tumm Tak explores the emotional journey of two people navigating love despite societal expectations. Speaking about the storyline, the actress shared, 'If you look at relationships in real life, age gaps do exist. Love is a gradual process. Even if there is an age gap, you still take your time to assess whether the person is right for you or not. That's exactly how it is for Anu and Arya. The story has layers and things unfold step by step. Age is just a number." Produced by Prateek Sharma and Parth Shah under the banners of Studio LSD, Tumm Se Tumm Tak stars Dolly Chawla alongside Sharad Kelkar and Niharika Chouksey. The daily soap airs every day on Zee TV.
