Comedy has taken a back seat for now: Vandana Pathak
After a six-year hiatus from television,
Vandana Pathak
is back on the small screen with Tumm Se Tumm Tak. The actress, who became a household name with popular shows like Khichdi and Ek Mahal Ho Sapno Ka, says she was happy to get back to television because she found the role interesting.
Talking to Mumbai Mirror about her return, she says, 'My last show was Manmohini in 2019 with the same production house. It was a deliberate break that I took because my father-in-law wasn't well. I was very close to him and wanted to be with him. Unfortunately, he passed away, and after that, I didn't feel like getting back to work immediately.'
The break led her towards the regional cinema. 'I got a Gujarati film offer (Golkeri), which did well.
I started getting more Gujarati offers, which I took up. People are really enjoying regional content right now.' Known primarily for her comic timing, especially as Jayshree in Khichdi, the actress is now exploring more intense roles. She says, 'I have been offered a lot of comedy roles because of Khichdi, but I want to do something different now.
Comedy has taken a back seat. I'm currently focused on other genres.'
She adds, 'People still call me Jayshree, and I'm okay with it. That show gave me a lot. Another Khichdi film is in the pipeline. The writers are working on it, and I'm in touch with the cast. Apart from Khichdi, a show that is close to my heart is Ek Mahal Ho Sapno Ka — nothing like that has been written again.'

"Indrani Mukerjea Owes Me Rs 35 Lakh For My Show": Producer-Actor JD Majethia Recalls
New Delhi: Khichdi actor JD Majethia was one of the producers who associated with Indrani Mukerjea for curating shows for her channel. In a recent interview, actor-producer JD Majethia recalled Indrani Mukerjea still owes him Rs 35 lakhs for his show before she was charged as the main accused in the alleged murder of her daughter Sheena in 2015. What's Happening Indrani had co-founded INX Media with her ex-husband Peter Mukerjea and collaborated with many producers for curating shows for her channel in 2007. Just two years later, Indrani and Peter stepped down from their management roles, making several producers go through financial distress. In a recent interview with Hindi Rush, JD Majethia shared how he didn't get his dues and how Indrani's behaviour changed over time. "My experience with 9X is very specific. They are very famous people: Peter Mukerjea and Indrani. I was doing a show for them: Remote Control. It was a weekly show, and it did well for them. Three weeks into the show, Indrani called me and said, 'Let's make this a daily show.' I was like, 'No, I don't think so'. Indrani was like, 'What are you saying JD. If it was any other producer, he wouldn't have let go of this opportunity.' I said, 'It is not about the opportunity, the show's content is not meant for daily show. People will get tired of this and this will come to and end in a few months if we turn it into a daily show,'" JD recalled. JD didn't give up and convinced her to let the show be weekly only. "She got upset. We did that show for almost a year-about 52 episodes. Later, she requested if I could at least increase the show's duration to one hour. I agreed to it." When they started shooting for the second season of the show, things were not smooth as earlier. JD shared, "She stopped paying us after we started the second season. She didn't pay us for over four months, everybody's payments stopped. They stopped answering or meeting us. As a producer, I paid my team on time because they were all my friends who were working - Supriya Pathak, Deven Bhojani, Mansi Parekh, Jai Soni, Sooraj Thapar. I paid them all. By this time, Indrani owed me about Rs 70 lakh. I waited but they never paid." "One day, I went and showed them the receipts of all the payments. Indrani and Peter were together. Indrani changed her behaviour towards me. She became extremely rude. I lost it. I yelled at her. I said, 'Don't talk to me like this. I don't owe you money. You owe me money. And then you talk to me like this?' Peter tried to console me. But Indrani never cared," the actor continued. That one incident paved a rift between JD Majethia and Indrani Mukerjea. "Their accountant spoke to me then they brought a big journalist and started to make settlement talks. I was like, 'What settlement? I have paid all my artistes. I can't do settlement here.' I refused to take settlement amount as I had already paid all my actors. Eventually, they sold the company to a different management and they wanted NOC from me, I didn't give it to them. After a lot of arguments, they eventually paid me Rs 50 lakh, but I still underwent a loss of Rs 30 to 35 lakh," recalled JD Majethia.

I want the legacy of Shaktimaan to go on and not necessarily with me: Mukesh Khanna
Mukesh Khanna Written By: Ancela Jamindar After more than four decades in showbiz, Mukesh Khanna , who has played iconic roles like Shaktimaan (in Shaktimaan) and Bhishma (in Mahabharat), recently made his D-Town debut with Vishwaguru. Khanna, who was in Ahmedabad, says, 'Usually, I don't do regional films. While I have a grip over Hindi, I am not fluent in Gujarati. I need to know the language to give something back to the project. However, I felt comfortable when the team told me that my character, a bureau chief, would be speaking in Hindi.' He adds, 'Also, it was a very different film- a mixture of science fiction and spirituality, targeted at our youth.' 'My perspective towards OTT has changed' Talking about the OTT boom, Khanna says, 'OTT has done what films and TV couldn't do. It offers so much content which is done properly, without any time limit. To bring audiences back to theatres, films need to push boundaries. I feel our films have become average and repetitive, offering the same kind of stories with obscenity, manipulation, and blasphemy. Hindi films must fight against OTT. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Machinext brings expert lubricant care to your facility doorstep Mobil Machinext Sign Up Undo Gone are the days when movies would run in theatres for 20-25 weeks. ' He admits, 'Initially, I didn't like OTT as it mostly has vulgar content without any censorship, which I had objected to since the beginning. So, I didn't want to do OTT projects. But recently, I came across good shows, which changed my perspective.' 'Shaktimaan is very much alive in people's hearts' Khanna, who said yes to making a comeback as Shaktimaan for an audio series, says, 'I was adamant not to change the concept, basic character, and story of Shaktimaan. We wanted to keep the soul intact and with new adventures, Shaktimaan will solve today's problems. Shaktimaan has resonated with people of all groups, and many generations have grown up with India's first superhero.' He adds, 'I remember mothers telling me that their kids, who refused to drink milk, would listen to him (Shaktimaan) and happily drink milk after watching the show. The show's messages are relevant even today and even after so many years, the character is very much alive in the hearts of fans. Even the 'Sorry Shaktimaan' meme keeps trending. I feel today's kids need Shaktimaan more as compared to '90s kids.' 'I have always had pleasant experiences in Gujarat' Khanna says, 'I have always had pleasant experiences in Gujarat. People here have loved Bhishma and Shaktimaan. During the 2001 earthquake, Narendra Modi ji had requested me to help the children in Ahmedabad, Bhuj, Surendranagar, Rajkot and other places, who were very scared to enter their homes after the earthquake. I wore the Shaktimaan costume and met children across the state to motivate them to be brave. Gujarat holds a special place in my heart. I can understand Gujarati and speak a bit.' 'Why is the movie adaptation of Shaktimaan not out?' As per reports, Ranveer Singh will be playing Shaktimaan in the film adaptation. Khanna says, 'The question is not when the movie adaptation of Shaktimaan will be out, but why is it not out? I want the legacy of Shaktimaan to go on, not necessarily with Mukesh Khanna, but with someone whose image is good and pure. It is not about the actor, but the image and aura of the actor should resonate with Shaktimaan.' "Get the latest updates on Times of India, including reviews of the movie Coolie and War 2 ."
