Environment Day 2025 special: Easy ways to reduce plastic usage-here's how

Every year on June 5, the United Nations observes World Environment Day as a means of encouraging environmental awareness and call-to-action. Similar to an annual Earth "check-up day," everyone is urged to take some small but meaningful action to protect the environment. Through initiatives ranging from international conferences, climate action, and social media movements to tree planting and plastic-free campaigns, people from more than 150 countries come together under the common theme of World Environment Day to promote a healthier planet. Plastic pollution is suffocating the planet – India alone uses billions of plastic bottles every year. As World Environment Day 2025 approaches, here are five simple ways to cut down on plastic and make travel more sustainable. 5 ways to reduce plastic on this World Environment Day 2025 1. Avoid bottled water More than 14 billion plastic bottles are consumed every year in India alone, and many of them end up choking natural ecosystems or polluting tourist spots. Bringing a reusable water bottle is one of the easiest methods. Every time you decide to refill instead of purchase, it is a small habit change that pays off. Also Read From home, bring a set of reusable linen napkins. They are washable and reusable, and they are both soft and long-lasting. You will not have to sacrifice convenience or hygienic conditions to drastically reduce trash. 3. Reusable cutlery, boxes & straws Include a lightweight tiffin or Tupperware box, a straw, a reusable fork, and a spoon in a small package. It is particularly helpful if you choose to bag leftovers or stop at a dhaba/restaurant on the way for takeaway. 4. Zero-waste toilet kit Simple and efficient sustainable alternatives include using a soap bar, refilling your shampoo or conditioner in reusable bottles and switching to a bamboo toothbrush. 5. Digital tickets Most travellers now use digital copies of their tickets on their phones – whether for hotels, buses, trains, or flights. Choosing e-tickets and storing IDs digitally helps reduce paper and plastic waste, cutting down on unnecessary printing.

10 Things to Do Before Vinayak Chaturthi 2025

1. Clean the House Vinayak Chaturthi isn't just about the sweets—it's actually a deep sign of respect. A sparkling clean home sends a clear signal that the host is totally ready for some very important divine guests. Think of it like getting your place ready for a visit from royalty who also happens to be a pro at removing obstacles. 2. Prep the Puja Supplies Nobody enjoys those frantic, last-minute shopping runs for modaks or incense sticks. Get all your essentials ready beforehand: eco-friendly idols, fresh flowers, sandalwood paste, camphor, all the modaks , and a sturdy little platform for Ganesha's idol. Bonus: you'll beat the crowds and avoid all the chaos. 3. Choose the Idol That Matches Your Vibe Clay idols are both good for the environment and spiritually preferred. When you pick one, try to find an idol with a calm expression, in a seated posture, and with eyes that don't stare into your soul like ancient wisdom lasers. Size matters too—Ganesha shouldn't need an entire room to Himself unless your budget also allows for that! 4. Decide on the Perfect Spot for the Setup If you can, choose a northeast corner (called the Ishaan Kon ), which is known for its powerful spiritual energy. This isn't just any old spot for Netflix and snacks anymore—it's now sacred real estate in your home. 5. Declutter Your Mind Start a daily routine of chanting or light meditation using the mantra 'Om Gan Ganapataye Namah.' It's kind of like updating your computer's system software before you install some major divine blessings. Real stability comes from a place of peace, not from a chaotic mind. 6. Leave Family Feuds at the Door Ganesha really doesn't deal well with emotional baggage or old grudges. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like The Most Remarkable Oscar Outfits Ever Interesticle Undo Make an effort to clear the air, forgive that cousin who conveniently "forgot" to return your Tupperware in 2023, and just reset those family vibes to something much more positive. 7. Decorate Like Pinterest Meets Purity Get your DIY skills ready with marigold garlands, fresh mango leaves, and beautiful rice rangoli designs. Keep the decorations festive and rooted in tradition, not like some wild LED rave. 8. Plan Your Daily Aarti Schedule Gather your crew—friends, family, neighbors. Figure out who's singing, who's clapping off-beat, and who's in charge of handing out the prasad (offerings). Coming together in unity is really what matters. 9. Practice Simple Fasting or a Satvik Diet Ease yourself into a purer way of eating. Start cutting back on onion, garlic, and all that heavy junk food. Ganesha isn't a food critic, but blessings seem to flow much better when you approach them with a little discipline. 10. Set Your Intentions: Your Ganesha Vision Board What problems do you need removed from your life? What new beginnings do you want to invite in? Write it all down, and really focus on it. Ganesha is the ultimate remover of obstacles—but clear, focused intentions usually get His attention faster than general chaos. Secrets of Ireland's fridges uncovered as Currys launches For The Tech You Love

More than half of Ireland's refrigerators contain leftovers that will never be eaten, while one fridge in four is home to a Tupperware container which holds contents that are a mystery even to the owner. These are just two of the revelations from a new survey into how Irish consumers use our fridges, and what their contents reveal about us. The nationwide survey was commissioned by Currys to launch its new brand ad campaign For The Tech You Love. The campaign celebrates the humble fridge and indicates the truth behind our most common kitchen appliance, that we're a nation of chaos-stackers and cheese hoarders. A massive 95 percent of us always have milk chilling on standby, while 57 percent admit clinging to 'leftovers we'll never eat'. # And nearly a quarter of us confess to owning a 'mystery' Tupperware container in which the contents are best left unidentified - while almost half of us (40 percent) keep items that are technically expired but 'still smell grand'. The national debate over what actually belongs in the fridge rages on too. Two thirds of us (67 percent) keep their ketchup cold, 61 percent refrigerate their eggs, and 32 percent chill chocolate, all of which should spark another round of fridge vs press warfare in households across the country. Meanwhile, our cleanliness could use a boost: only 10 percent clean of us clean our fridge weekly, while more than a quarter wait until something starts to smell. No surprise that the feature most people want in a future fridge is a self-cleaning mode (61 percent ). Roz Purcell topped the list of Irish celebs we trust to have the most organised fridge, while south Dublin won the unofficial crown for Ireland's fanciest fridge setups (with a smug 73 percent of the vote ). While most of us admit trying to find a system to tame the chaos. Currys' new brand platform For the Tech You Love has been designed to reposition Currys as more than a retailer by tapping into the everyday relationship people have with the technology in their lives. The new creative direction reflects Currys' ambition to reposition itself in the hearts and minds of customers – not just as a tech retailer, but as a brand that understands how personal those choices can be. From the excitement of unboxing a new device to finding a fridge that makes a statement, For the Tech You Love brings these moments to life in a way that's both personal and entertaining – without taking itself too seriously. So whether your fridge is bursting at the seams or clinging to payday leftovers, Currys has the perfect model for every home, style and food habit. Find their full range of refrigeration products at

A drink dispenser if you fancy yourself a ~beverage connoisseur~ who always has at least three drinks on hand at a time. This will help keep your vast collection organized, and it pushes all the drinks to the front of the fridge when you pull one out, so you don't end up with them shoved all the way in the back. A two-pack of two-tier under-sink organizers with slide-out drawers so you can finally make use of all that awkward space without having to shove half your body under there just to reach the shampoo that's alllll the way in the back. A three-pocket folding car trunk organizer because if you're anything like me, you have a whole collection of random stuff rolling around in your trunk that most certainly could benefit from a little organization. A shirt folder that'll transform your closet or drawers from a chaotic mess into something worthy of being in a store. This foolproof method lets you easily create crisp folds that will make laundry day a breeze. A high-rise organizer to actually utilize all the space in your cabinet instead of only being able to fit a few things on the base layer. The organizer's bridge design means you can store medicine bottles underneath and narrower items — like razors, toothbrushes, or flossing picks — on top. Two side compartments also make it easier to stand up items that take too much space lying down — we're talking toothpaste, lipstick, thermometers, etc. Promising review: "This fits perfectly on the bottom of my medicine cabinet. It is very sturdy plastic, with a great design. I can't believe how many jars, tubes, etc. it has managed to corral. Everything looks so neat! Wonderful little product!" —AlexGet it from Amazon for $12.82. A pack of stacking shoe organizers that'll double up your shoe storage, which means you can keep adding sneakers and heels to your collection!! An egg holder because those cardboard containers do not fit the aesthetic of your newly organized fridge. These trays are ~eggsactly~ what you need to transition from amateur to full-on influencer-worthy organization. A color-coordinated desk set so you can give your desk space the upgrade it deserves. This has a place for your pens, Post-Its, paper clips, and anything else you can't work without (maybe some candy? IDK, just spitballing). This set includes pens, a pen cup, a stapler, a tape dispenser, and a desk tray. Talking Out of Turn — also affectionately known as Toot — is a woman-owned and -run small business that creates most of its stationery and lifestyle goods in-house right outside of Dallas, Texas. Promising review: "I wanted to get our daughter a nice little desk set for her new office; something pretty and pink. This set is perfect and she loves it!" —Terry R it from Talking Out of Turn for $50 (available in four colors). A closet organizer that will help you get that custom closet look of your dreams without the hefty price tag of actually having someone custom make it. And this one is fully rearrangeable so you can constantly edit it depending on what you've been shopping for recently. The horizontal top piece is the only one mounted to the wall so the rest of the racks and hanging rods are easy to move around. This particular organizer is made for four-foot closets, but The Container Store has plenty of similar options for differently sized spaces. Promising review: "I had three closets designed custom in-store. It took about a month to receive my delivery but it was worth the wait. I absolutely love these closet systems and find it difficult to say one negative thing about them. The design process was very informative. The software capability is impressive. I opted to save money not purchasing installation and am currently finishing up the first closet install myself. I am a beginner DIYer and have had zero issues. I am very happy with the functionality of this product and ease of installation." —NicoleMarieVGet it from The Container Store for $199.99 (originally $499.99).

Costco's New Rotisserie Chicken Container Is Genius

A little over a year ago, Costco announced a change to its rotisserie chicken that sent die-hard fans spiraling, and it had nothing to do with the recipe (well, if you don't believe the theories people have floated around). The iconic hard-shell plastic packaging slowly began being phased out in favor of plastic bags, much to the disappointment of many shoppers. Seriously, people were livid. Costco allegedly made this decision in an effort to reduce plastic waste and the number of trucks needed to transport their chickens. Claims of leaks, poor transport ability, and even the quality of the chicken itself began taking over comment sections and Reddit threads. People were practically begging for them to bring back their old packaging. Well, now there's good news for all you Costco rotisserie chicken purists out there: a Tupperware container that perfectly fits your roasted bird. It's been spotted for about $14 in stores (about $24 when you purchase online) and comes fully equipped with a pullout tray so you can avoid greasy chicken hands. Personally, I'm obsessed with the fact that "fits rotisserie chicken" was important enough to be listed as a feature. No more flimsy bags collecting juices at the bottom of your fridge! No more chicken falling apart the moment you touch it! It feels like the world is finally healing. And while people still have their issues with the bags (and, of course, needing to transfer their chicken into a new container), customers very much appreciate the XL Tupperware. "Where was this all of our lives?" someone wrote. Someone even gave us the best life hack, especially for those who sneak a taste of chicken in the car on their way home. (Sorry in advance to whichever Costco employee will inevitably have to clean up hundreds of soggy plastic chicken bags.) Will we soon see a BYOC (bring your own container) movement at Costco? Maybe ditching the plastic bags entirely? A girl can dream. What do you think of the new XL Tupperware (aka the rotisserie chicken container)? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
