Costco's New Rotisserie Chicken Container Is Genius

Costco's New Rotisserie Chicken Container Is Genius

Buzz Feed6 days ago

A little over a year ago, Costco announced a change to its rotisserie chicken that sent die-hard fans spiraling, and it had nothing to do with the recipe (well, if you don't believe the theories people have floated around).
The iconic hard-shell plastic packaging slowly began being phased out in favor of plastic bags, much to the disappointment of many shoppers. Seriously, people were livid.
Costco allegedly made this decision in an effort to reduce plastic waste and the number of trucks needed to transport their chickens.
Claims of leaks, poor transport ability, and even the quality of the chicken itself began taking over comment sections and Reddit threads. People were practically begging for them to bring back their old packaging.
Well, now there's good news for all you Costco rotisserie chicken purists out there: a Tupperware container that perfectly fits your roasted bird.
It's been spotted for about $14 in stores (about $24 when you purchase online) and comes fully equipped with a pullout tray so you can avoid greasy chicken hands.
Personally, I'm obsessed with the fact that "fits rotisserie chicken" was important enough to be listed as a feature.
No more flimsy bags collecting juices at the bottom of your fridge! No more chicken falling apart the moment you touch it! It feels like the world is finally healing.
And while people still have their issues with the bags (and, of course, needing to transfer their chicken into a new container), customers very much appreciate the XL Tupperware.
"Where was this all of our lives?" someone wrote.
Someone even gave us the best life hack, especially for those who sneak a taste of chicken in the car on their way home. (Sorry in advance to whichever Costco employee will inevitably have to clean up hundreds of soggy plastic chicken bags.)
Will we soon see a BYOC (bring your own container) movement at Costco? Maybe ditching the plastic bags entirely? A girl can dream.
What do you think of the new XL Tupperware (aka the rotisserie chicken container)? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!

19 Everyday Habits People Didn't Realize Could Permanently Change Their Bodies

When you're young (and a little naive), it's common to feel invincible when it comes to your body. Staying up late, maybe partying too much, working out with incorrect form — you might not feel some of these at the moment, but boy, do they catch up to you. While those examples might seem obvious, people in this Reddit thread are sharing the things that seemed minor in the moment but ended up having lasting effects on their bodies long-term. Here is what some shared: Note: Some of these responses have been edited for length and/or clarity. 1."I was a college athlete. We were told that pain was temporary, but pride was forever. I've had three orthopedic surgeries, one of which wasn't successful and from which I went septic. I was diagnosed with arthritis before I was 20. My knees are shot. I have more cracks, pops, and stiffness than people 10+ years older than me. As it turns out, the pain is forever and comes with compounding interest." —OptmstcExstntlst 2."Acne. I thought it was something that would go away after your teens, but it's still destroying my face a decade later, and nothing seems to work. It's most likely genetic since the other women in my family still suffer from it. Even if there was a cure, I still have the permanent scarring since dark skin tends to scar worse than light skin." —butterflyempress 3."Listening to music WAY too loud with headphones on when younger. It definitely leads to hearing loss and hearing aids." —plytime18 4."Obstructive sleep apnea. When you already know you have some mental troubles, you think that explains your drowsiness and low mood and don't look for more issues. It does not only hurt your cardiovascular system; it may slowly destroy your life. If you snore at night and/or feel sleepy all day, go see your doctor." —cyb_30 5."I had breast implants removed after decades. It left a slightly concave space because, over time, the ribs get deformed from the pressure of the implants." —SnooFloofs9030 Related: People Who Cut Off Their Trump-Supporting Friends And Family Members Are Sharing Their Stories, And It's Heartbreaking 6."Not getting enough sleep." —84OrcButtholes 7."Bad posture, rounding shoulders to minimize my chest. Now I have neck pain, shoulder pain, and lower back pain, ugh." —Sufficient-Berry-827 8."Pregnancy. I had twins. I got HUGE in the tummy. I had the babies, and it left this belly that wouldn't go away. Fast forward; the twins are 8 years old. I am 7 weeks post-op of having my diastasis recti corrected. Do you know that center line down the abs? Mine had split. There was a 6 to 8-inch gap down the middle THE WHOLE WAY DOWN. The belly that I kept punishing myself for, the baby fat I couldn't lose? Those were my organs. My digestive organs were all herniated." —LucidianQuill 9."Waxing my eyebrows to the same thin shape for 20 years". —LV4Q Related: My Son Died Of A Fentanyl Overdose. Here's What No One Is Telling You About This Crisis. 10."Casual drinking. I'm 7 months pregnant, and it's amazing how much weight I've lost and how drastically different my face looks in pictures. I'm not going back to drinking after giving birth." —Deliciouscheesyrolup 11."Wearing tight shoes everyday gave me bunions, but I didn't realize the cause until years later." —Pitiful-Bake5470 12."A few years of Crossfit have left me with permanent knee and shoulder pain. Heavy weights shouldn't be lifted for time; your form inevitably goes to hell, and you set yourself up for joint injuries." —Mr_Lumbergh 13."Being kept 100% out of the sun as a kid. I wasn't given vitamin D supplements either, so my bones are pretty fragile and break easily, and my enamel is delicate and shears off if my teeth close too hard. My body never sequestered calcium properly as a kid, and I can do nothing about it as an adult. My mom thought she was protecting me from skin cancer, but she was really dooming me to a life of bone fractures and bad teeth." —kyreannightblood 14."My parents had the kids do a lot of manual labor, starting when I was only 5 or 6. It was not just helping in the yard but doing actual landscaping work. My brother and I once had to haul rocks in those 10lbs buckets from a dumpster to the egress windows 300 yards away. Being so little, we had no idea about posture, lifting with your legs, etc. We both have chronic back, shoulder, knee, and neck pain and have the beginning symptoms of arthritis. We're only 21 and 26 now. Makes me mad that I hurt myself when I was so little, doing work that the adults should have been doing." —blackberriespastries 15."Burn out. I was so afraid of losing everything that I stretched myself to my actual collapse. Five years later, I can still feel the damage my brain sustained from that period of my life, and I still lost everything and had to start over. If I could give any advice to people out there — if you are burning out with no projected relief in sight, do yourself a favor and know when to cut your losses so you can use your time and energy restrategizing." —AlpharoTheUnlimited 16."Smoking for almost 10 years. Obviously, I knew that smoking was never going to do anything but hurt my lungs. But it's been almost two years since I smoked, and I still have terrible lung capacity. Another is not learning healthy exercising habits when I was younger. I wish my parents made me play sports even if I hated it. I think that's another part of why I get so easily winded and fatigued when trying to work out now. It's hard for me to breathe while also focusing on moving my body correctly. For example, I subconsciously hold my breath when I do planks or hold a stretch." —thenissancube 17."Working at night hours alters the internal sleeping cycle. If your body gets used to it, you gain a passive energy boost at night and the opposite during day hours, even if you have regular sleep patterns." —LeagueOfLindemann 18."Psychiatric drugs. It's terrible how easily they are prescribed and how doctors do not explain side effects." —kalmar91 Is there anything else you could add to this list? If so, share it with me in the comments below! If Your Washing Machine is Growing Mold, This Trick Can Get Rid of It

It's laundry day. You bring your dirty clothes to the washing machine only to open it and catch a whiff of rotting wood, wet socks and damp earth. Wait, is that mold? Mold and mildew feed off of heat and humidity, breeding in dark spaces that don't get properly aired out. During the peak of summer, mold can easily move into your washing machine and cause a problem you'll need to deal with. CNET A quick look around Reddit threads suggests that more than a few people struggle with stubborn mold, mildew and bacteria in washing machine door seals. While some have experimented with using chemicals like bleach, odd smells and stubborn particles in and around the door of their washing machines can be a recurring problem. Thankfully, tackling mold and mildew in your washing machine just requires some elbow grease. All it takes is a proper deep clean and your washer will be back to doing its job without mold, mildew or bacteria interfering. Cleaning the washer, along with allowing it to air out between uses can work wonders. Not sure how to properly clean your washing machine? We'll walk you through what you need to know about killing bacteria or mold in your washer and how to rid your machine of those awful smells. Read more: Are You Washing Your Bath Towels Enough? Experts Doubt It The best way to remove a bad smell from your washing machine If you have mold in your washer, here's how to get rid of it. Doing this monthly will help prevent mold growth. 1. Put on gloves and grab an old towel that you don't care about. 2. Mix a solution of either bleach and hot water or vinegar and hot water. (Never mix bleach and vinegar -- it creates toxic chlorine gas.) 3. Dip the towel in the mixture and start scrubbing away at any visible mold. Be sure to get the detergent dispenser and around the gaskets. 4. Front-loading machines have a gasket around the door. If you have a front loader, clean and dry it thoroughly, including all the folds. Be careful not to tear the gasket. 5. Run the wash cycle on the hottest setting your machine offers with a cup of bleach or vinegar. If using bleach, pour it into the compartment designated for bleach. If using vinegar, pour it into the detergent slot. If your machine has a self-clean cycle, you can use that setting. This should kill any hidden mold that you may have missed. 6. Use another old towel and wipe away all the moisture in your washing machine. This includes the drum, dispensers, seals and any other areas you can reach. 7. Leave the washer door open to allow airflow to dry any parts you missed. Simple ways to prevent mold and mildew in your washer Leave the lid open if you're not washing clothes Mold grows in dark, moist areas, which is what your washer becomes after you've unloaded the clothes. Whether it's a top or front loader, keeping the lid closed traps moisture, which can lead to built-up bacteria and a bad smell. Leaving the washing machine door open helps ventilate the area and prevents mold from growing in the first place. Remove wet clothes right away Damp clothes are another breeding ground for mold. If you're throwing in a load of laundry, make sure you'll be home to remove the clothes right when the wash cycle ends. Not only does this prevent mold from growing in your washer, but it keeps mildew out of your clean clothing, bedding and towels. Dry damp seals and other parts after each use After you're finished using your washing machine for the day, wipe down any part of the washer that's damp. This includes the lid, drum, door, rubber gaskets and detergent dispenser (if your machine has that feature). Keep an old towel on hand for this purpose. Dry the seals along with the rest of your washer to prevent moisture from sticking around. And while mold contamination can happen in any washer, it's especially common in high-efficiency (HE) front-loading washers. That's why you should regularly wash the gaskets and seals around the door and keep them dry. The gaskets make sure water doesn't leak out around the door and they also do a good job of sealing in the moisture that can help mold grow. You should also remove pet hair, crumpled paper or any other debris from the machine right away. If you have a high-efficiency (HE) washer, use a powder detergent made for HE machines. Taylor Martin/CNET Use a high-efficiency washing machine Liquid detergents can leave a residue in your washing machine, giving mold a food source. So if you have a high-efficiency washer, the first thing to do to keep mold in check is to make sure you're using a laundry detergent made specifically for this type of washer, which will produce fewer suds. (Look for the letters HE on the bottle.) Better yet, steer clear of liquid detergent altogether and switch to powder detergent or pods. Whichever you choose, make sure you're only using as much as you need to wash your clothes. If you use too much, your clothes may have a smell and residue. Once you've cleaned your washer, it's time to move on to the rest of your house. Start with the bathroom: Here's a simple one-hour hack for degunking your showerhead and how to unclog a toilet without a plunger. FAQs What cleaning chemicals should I avoid mixing when cleaning my washing machine? You're going to have to apply some elbow grease, put on some cleaning gloves and break out the cleaning chemicals to clean out your washer. A cleaning solution of hot water and bleach or hot water and vinegar is what you'll want to use to scrub out the inside of the machine, but you never want to combine bleach and vinegar -- that creates chlorine gas, which is toxic to you and anyone else in your home. What should I do after I finish running my washer? After you clean your washer and return to regular use, you'll still want to prevent new mold or mildew from developing within the machine. When you're done using your washing machine, make sure to dry the inside of the machine to avoid the warm, wet conditions that bacteria usually flourishes in. Reddit will let you hide posts, comments and NSFW activity from your public profile

Reddit will now allow its users to do something it never before has permitted: to selectively "curate" their public-facing profiles by hiding some of their posting and commenting activity from other users. Up to now, Reddit has included users' full commenting and posting activity in profiles. So while most users are anonymous, others could easily check out their post history and see what communities they're active in. The feature, which many users see as a key part of Reddit's openness, has helped Redditors ferret out trolling, lying and numerous other types of bad (or merely embarrassing ) behavior on the platform. With the update, however, Reddit users will be able to "curate" their profile. The additional control will allow people to hide all their public posts and comments from their profile or hide public posts and comments in specific subreddits from their profiles. There is also a "NSFW" toggle, which would hide posts and comments in NSFW subreddits. The setting won't hide a comment or post in the subreddit where it originally appeared, but it won't be visible on a user's profile. The company notes that there will be some carveouts to these settings for moderators, who may rely on users' past activity to suss out rule-breakers or decide who is eligible to join their community. "If you post, comment, send modmail, request to be an approved poster, or request to join a private subreddit, that mod team will have access to your full profile content history for 28 days after the interaction – regardless of your settings," Reddit says in an FAQ. Despite that concession, many Redditors aren't exactly happy about the changes, which could alter some of the core dynamics of the platform. "This seems like it's going to lead to bad actors being able to more easily hide their behavior from the average user," one of the most-upvoted comments on Reddit's post says. "Unless you're a mod, you won't be able to see that they're posting inflammatory misinformation across a dozen different subs, for instance." Others have noted the feature also means that creating an alt or throwaway account is somewhat less necessary, as it's easier to hide posts you don't want linked to your presence on the app. While that may be an added convenience for some, it also raises questions about the company's approach to making new accounts. During the company's most recent earnings call, CEO Steve Huffman suggested that Reddit was considering ways to "evolve" its "historically permissive account creation" process. Huffman didn't elaborate on what that may look like, but said changes would be necessary to fight AI-powered "abuse or manipulation" of the platform.
