Jose Mourinho handed four-game ban for ‘derogatory and offensive statements' which could incite violence
Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho has been handed a four-match ban and fined by the Turkish Football Federation. Mourinho criticised the match officials following Monday's tense 0-0 Super Lig draw with Galatasaray, in which he welcomed the decision to bring in a foreign referee for the game, told the Turkish fourth official he would have been a "disaster" as the referee and claimed the Galatasaray bench were "jumping around like monkeys" following an early challenge. The Turkish FA said Mourinho was being punished for "derogatory and offensive statements towards the Turkish referee" and it is claimed his remarks promoted violence and disorder and could incite fan incidents. Sky Sports News report that Fenerbahce will appeal the ban. Galatasaray issued a statement after the game outlining their plan to "initiate criminal proceedings concerning the racist statements made by Jose Mourinho", and would submit official complaints with UEFA and FIFA. Fenerbahce then issued a response in which they accused Galatasaray of "pathetic slander", and former Chelsea and Gala player Didier Drogba defended his former manager. Drogba wrote on social media: "He is not a racist and history is there to prove it."
