Jose Mourinho handed four-game ban for ‘derogatory and offensive statements' which could incite violence

Yahoo02-03-2025

Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho has been handed a four-match ban and fined by the Turkish Football Federation.
Mourinho criticised the match officials following Monday's tense 0-0 Super Lig draw with Galatasaray, in which he welcomed the decision to bring in a foreign referee for the game, told the Turkish fourth official he would have been a "disaster" as the referee and claimed the Galatasaray bench were "jumping around like monkeys" following an early challenge.
The Turkish FA said Mourinho was being punished for "derogatory and offensive statements towards the Turkish referee" and it is claimed his remarks promoted violence and disorder and could incite fan incidents.
Sky Sports News report that Fenerbahce will appeal the ban.
Galatasaray issued a statement after the game outlining their plan to "initiate criminal proceedings concerning the racist statements made by Jose Mourinho", and would submit official complaints with UEFA and FIFA.
Fenerbahce then issued a response in which they accused Galatasaray of "pathetic slander", and former Chelsea and Gala player Didier Drogba defended his former manager.
Drogba wrote on social media: "He is not a racist and history is there to prove it."

Report – Chivu Doesn't Want A Like-For-Like Replacement If Inter Milan Sell Galatasaray Target

Cristian Chivu does not want a like-for-like replacement if Hakan Calhanoglu leaves Inter Milan this summer. This according to today's print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews. Advertisement Inter Milan are bracing for the possibility that Hakan Calhanoglu could leave this summer. The Nerazzurri would hope for an offer of at least €40 million for the Turkish international, who is in the sights of Galatasary, So far, the Istanbul giants have only shown a willingness to bid €15 million. However, there is a sense that Galatasaray's push to sign Calhanoglu will only intensify. Therefore, Inter are getting ready to potentially have to replace the 31-year-old. (Photo by) Certainly, if Inter are to sell Hakan Calhanoglu this summer transfer window, then they will look to bring in a replacement for the former AC Milan and Bayer Leverkusen midfielder. Advertisement And according to Tuttosport, Nerazzurri coach Cristian Chivu has a clear idea of the kind of player he would want to take the place of the Turk. Tuttosport report that Chivu doesn't want a like-for-like replacement. That is to say, he isn't seeking a deep-lying playmaker. Calhanoglu is a player who began as a more attacking midfielder. Then moved deeper on the pitch. And that is not the profile of midfielder that Chivu would want to replace Calhanoglu. Rather, reports Tuttosport, the 44-year-old would seek a more physical, purely defensively-minded midfielder.

OGC Nice's Marcin Bulka unenthused by Galatasaray move

Marcin Bulka (25) looks highly likely to leave OGC Nice this summer. The Polish goalkeeper, a key player for Le Gym over the past two seasons, has been in talks over a contract renewal. However, towards the start of last season, those talks hit a brick wall. There has been a deadlock ever since, and there is little optimism over a renewal of talks. Determined not to lose him on a free next summer, Nice are looking to sell Bulka during the ongoing transfer window. Initial interest in Le Gym's No.1 has come from Turkey and more specifically from Galatasaray, according to a report from L'Équipe. Advertisement However, the publication understands that Bulka himself is not particularly enthused by a move to the Turkish club, even if they will be competing in the UEFA Champions League next season. Galatasaray would be willing to spend €20m on the goalkeeper. Local rivals AS Monaco have also been cited as a potential destination by Foot Mercato. GFFN | Luke Entwistle
