Milind Soman's mother Usha Soman at 85, might just be inspiration you needed for active lifestyle
When it comes to fitness, most people look up to athletes or trainers. But for actor, model, and marathon runner Milind Soman, the biggest inspiration has always been right at home: his mother, Usha Soman. Now 85, Usha continues to challenge age-related stereotypes and inspire people across generations with her active lifestyle, quiet strength, and unwavering dedication to her health. Whether it's yoga, trekking, walking, or even cycling at the beach, she proves that passion and discipline are more powerful than age. In a recent appearance on Tweak India, Milind Soman sat down with his wife, Ankita Konwar, and his mother for an open-hearted conversation. When asked about her fitness routine, Milind proudly shared, 'Whatever happens in the world, she does an hour of yoga every day.' Usha gently corrected him with a smile, saying, 'In the evening, actually.' She also added that she makes it a point to walk daily, which has become a part of her lifestyle. Usha Soman's love for life is evident in her lifestyle The actor has often expressed deep admiration for his mother, Usha Soman's inner strength and physical stamina. In an interview with Vogue India back in March 2020, he shared a memorable experience of a 20-day trek they undertook together, during which they covered a distance of 350 kilometers. He noted that his mother was surprisingly quick, faster than even he was. He had mentioned that Usha began trekking at the age of 60 after retiring from her role as a professor of biochemistry. Since then, she has managed to reach the base camps of both Mount Everest and Mount Kilimanjaro. Milind had remarked that although she rarely spoke about herself, her mental strength surpassed his own. He also pointed out that she never complained, even when situations became physically strenuous. He observed that even if she found it challenging to climb steep hills, she never admitted it and simply kept going. That quiet perseverance, he said, had left a lasting impact on him. He believed his personal philosophy of continuing to move forward and never giving up was something he had inherited from her. In 2022, Milind shared another proud moment on Instagram, where his mother was seen cycling along a beach in Goa after not having done so for 25 years. She was 83 at the time. He captioned the post by encouraging people to keep doing what they love while also practicing regularly, adding that it wasn't bad at all for someone her age. The video quickly gained traction online, with many fans applauding her enthusiasm and spirit in the comments. Milind has regularly shared snippets of his mother's fitness routines on social media, whether she was doing bodyweight exercises, going for runs, or simply taking walks. He believed that fitness should be normalized, particularly among older adults. According to him, people often found his mother's actions incredible, but he saw them as completely natural. He admitted that he didn't understand why more people didn't view it the same way. Beyond her impressive fitness levels, it was her independence, humility, and kindness that continued to leave a strong impression on those around her. Milind had said that she handled everything on her own, never judged others, and possessed a gentle beauty and compassion that, in his words, exceeded his own. Now at the age of 85, Usha Soman continues to embody what it means to live with purpose and passion.

Twinkle Khanna, after acting, found her true calling as an author and entrepreneur. She admires Kaali Maa's power, values discipline in writing, and believes showing up daily invites inspiration. Writing connects her to higher consciousness, fostering empathy and reducing judgment, helping her grow into a better, more compassionate person. After a brief tour in acting, Twinkle Khanna found her true calling as an author. Today, she is also a successful entrepreneur, celebrated for her sharp wit and insightful writing through her books and columns. Recently, at an event with fellow author Amish Tripathi , Twinkle engaged him in a discussion about his writing style and playfully asked which deity he would choose to embody for a day. When the question was flipped back to her, Twinkle was quick with a clever response. Choosing Kaali Maa The actress asked Amish which God he would choose to be if given the chance to be a deity for a day, adding that she already knew her own answer. She revealed, "I would be Kaali maa with my tongue sticking out at the world". When Amish remarked that Kaali Maa is extremely powerful, Twinkle confidently acknowledged that she was aware of this. The Muse and Creative Discipline In a conversation shared on Tweak India's YouTube channel, the two authors discussed the concept of 'the muse.' Amish explained that in Greek mythology, muses are goddesses who inspire creativity. Twinkle highlighted that beyond receiving this blessing, a writer must maintain discipline to keep writing consistently. She stressed the importance of showing up at the desk every day, even if inspiration seems to be headed elsewhere, and making the effort to seize it. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like One of the Most Successful Investors of All Time, Warren Buffett, Recommends: 5 Books for Turning... Using the Muse to Stay Rational Twinkle shared that having a 'muse' helps individuals stay rational by allowing them to avoid taking full responsibility for their failures. She explained that when the muse is involved, a person does not have to own their success, failure, or inability to write on any given day. Instead, they can attribute these outcomes to the muse. As long as one shows up and makes the effort, they have fulfilled their duty; whether the work turns out well or not is considered the muse's doing. Twinkle believes this perspective helps many creative people cope with the challenges of their craft, as it can be an intimidating process. She also mentioned that she personally relies on this approach to maintain her sanity. Writing as a Path to Becoming a Better Person She shared that writing makes her feel like a better person. The actress described that while writing, she connects with a higher level of consciousness, which brings her greater empathy and less judgment. She acknowledged that in her everyday life she can be quite judgmental, but when she is at her desk writing, she feels she becomes a more compassionate and elevated version of herself. Twinkle Khanna says she would be Kaali Maa if she was given a chance to be god for a day: ‘With my tongue sticking out to the world'
Twinkle Khanna turned an author after a short-lived acting career. Now, Twinkle is an entrepreneur and is known for her witty remarks, along with her many books and columns. At a recent event with author Amish Tripathi, Twinkle spoke to him about his genre of writing and wondered what god he would be if he could turn into a god for a day. When Amish turned the question back on Twinkle, she had her answer ready. 'If you had a chance to be a god for a day, you would choose to be…' Twinkle asked Amish and immediately said that she already knew her answer. 'I have already said it. I would be Kaali maa with my tongue sticking out at the world. It already is,' she said. When Amish pointed out that Kaali maa is 'extremely powerful,' Twinkle said with confidence, 'I know.' ALSO READ | Shah Rukh Khan left quietly after I told him 'nas kaat lungi', recalls Wamiqa Gabbi: 'There was pin-drop silence on the sets of Baby John' In the same chat shared on Tweak India's YouTube channel, the two authors spoke about 'the muse.' Amish said that the Greeks believed that the goddesses who blessed them with creativity were the muses and Twinkle added that apart from the blessing, one has to be disciplined so they can continue to write. 'You have to be disciplined. You have to sit at your desk every day at that point so even if a muse is on her way to someone else, you grab her and you drag her carcass on to your desk. That's what you do. You have to turn up every day and she will turn up when she has to.' she added. Twinkle said that with a 'muse' in the picture, one can keep themselves sane as you then don't have to take responsibility for your failures. 'The other thing about the muse, you are not taking responsibility for your success, your failure, your inability that day to write. You blame it on this person. As long as you turn up, you have done your job. Whether you have done a great job or not that's the muse's fault. And I think that way most creative people stay sane because it's a frightening job. If you blame the muse you will stay sane. That's what I would like to use her for and I do,' she said. Twinkle also added that she feels like she becomes a better person when she is writing and added, 'When I am writing, suddenly I feel, I am writing from a higher sort of consciousness. I have more empathy, I have less judgment, maybe as a human being sitting here, I am a lot more judgmental but when I am at my desk, I am a greater person.'
