Jesy Nelson's turbulent pregnancy from worrying symptoms to emergency surgery

Former Little Mix star Jesy Nelson has welcomed her twin daughters with partner Zion Foster, but it hasn't been an easy pregnancy with numerous challenges along the way to meeting their 'beautiful baby girls' Jesy Nelson has welcomed her 'healthy' twin baby girls with her partner Zion Foster, after spending the last 10 weeks in hospital ahead of their arrival. The proud parents, who have named their daughters Ocean and Story, have been on quite the journey to bringing their twins into the world, with Jesy's pregnancy filled with worrying scans and a rare condition. The former Little Mix star, 33, took to Instagram on Sunday, 18 May, to confirm she had given birth to her twin daughters earlier this week. In the post, the proud parents could be seen sweetly holding each of their daughters, who were born two months early. ‌ In the caption, Jesy wrote: "So… Our beautiful baby girls decided to come at 31 weeks plus 5 days. It all happened so quickly, but we are so blessed that they are here with us, healthy and fighting strong! We've never felt more in love. Everybody meet Ocean Jade Nelson-Foster and Story Monroe Nelson-Foster. Born on 15.05.2025." ‌ As Jesy and Zion, 26, settle into parenthood, we've taken a look back at the singer's turbulent and emotional pregnancy journey, which she documented every step of the way... READ MORE: Jesy Nelson gives birth to tiny 'blessed' twins as she reveals their gender and unusual names Pregnancy news Jesy announced her pregnancy on January 12 and confirmed they were expecting twins in an Instagram post. The post included a photo of herself and Zion, with him cradling her baby bump while standing behind her. Alongside the photo, Jesy teased: "She's eating for 3 now." They were met with an outpouring of well wishes on the platform, and Jesy also told fans that in the early stages of her pregnancy, she was constantly vomiting. Rare condition On March 5, Jesy shared that she was at risk of losing one or both of her babies as she was pregnant with Mono/Di twins, short for Monochorionic Diamniotic (MCDA). This meant that while most twins have two placentas to feed off, her twins only had one, but were in their own amniotic sac. This rare condition "can lead to lots of complications", and Jesy also confirmed that she was pre-stage twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS). According to the Twins Trust, TTTS is a "rare but life-threatening condition that affects 10 to 15 per cent of identical twins that share a placenta," and it "can have serious consequences". ‌ The expectant mum shared: "So we are having identical twins, which is so exciting, we're just like, we actually can't believe it. But unfortunately, there are complications that come with having identical having identical twins. "The type of twins we are having are called Mono/Di twins, and with that, so normally, most twins will have two placentas that they feed off of. But when you have Mono/Di twins, that means your twins live off one placenta, which can lead to lots of complications. ‌ "One of them being one baby might take all the nutrients, the other might, which is really awful to say, but could lead to both babies dying and at the moment, I am currently pre stage TTTS, which is twin to twin transfusion, and I'm being monitored very closely." 'Best chance of surviving' A few days later, on March 8, Jesy and Zion took to Instagram to share an update and revaled that they were at hospital waiting for a procedure to give their unborn children "the best chance of surviving". In the video, an emotional Jesy explained: "So, we are just giving you an update on our situation. So I've been feeling a bit poorly like the past few days. Been having a few of the symptoms that I need to watch out for - which is like my belly tightening, struggle breathing. So today we came into the hospital to just have a check-up basically. Just in case. And unfortunately the symptoms have got worse so we now have to have ... they have to perform the procedure, which is obviously not what we wanted to happen." ‌ "But it's necessary because it's gonna give our babies like the best chance of surviving. So yeah, we're just waiting to go in. And we're just hoping and praying for the best really. I feel gutted. I feel absolutely gutted because I really was hoping that we wouldn't even be in this position." Jesy then burst into tears as her partner Zion was seen reassuring her, before saying: "They're doing it to give us the best chance. Our babies the best chance." Jesy added: "Yeah, like that's why they do this procedure. So that it literally gives you the best chance of your baby surviving but it's obviously just really scary cause there's so many things that can happen." ‌ Emergency surgery In an update on Mother's Day (30 March), Jesy told fans that she had some "amazing news" after the procedure was a success. She explained that they were still in hospital as she recovered, before confirming: "The TTTS has cleared up, the operation was a success which is just absolutely incredible. We are so, so, lucky to have the most amazing doctors. Basically, the situation that we're in now is my cervix is very, very, short, so I can't leave the hospital because my waters could break at any point and I'm still very, very, early." She added: "So yeah, I can't leave the hospital until I'm a certain amount of weeks. Every week we're praying that the babies stay in my belly but yeah, we are just so grateful that they are still here and they're still growing strong and we're just so grateful." ‌ Hospitalised for 10 weeks The former Little Mix star remained hospitalised for 10 weeks due to her high-risk pregnancy, but thankfully, since the operation, her pregnancy remained positive. Despite being in hospital, she continued to share updates with fans and even asked for advice on what colour to dye her hair and revealed details of a little pamper session she had while waiting for her twins to arrive. Despite the difficulty in staying in hospital for such a lengthy period of time, Zion sweetly said that it had brought him and Jesy closer together. "The same four walls are driving us a bit crazy," he admitted at the time. "We've literally grown to understand each other on a deeper level. And I think we really understand how much we actually care about each other. ‌ "I think it's at these times when you really, really know what love you have and what your relationship means. And I think for me and Jess, this has just taken it to a whole other level of us knowing we are literally made for each other." 'They're so brave' On May 4, Jesy shared a series of black and white photos cradling her bump, holding new scans of her twins and lovingly lying on the bed with Zion. She captioned the post: "Muma Nelson and Papa Foster", adding a heart emoji. ‌ Speaking in the only interview during her pregnancy, Zion had said of the twins: "They're giving us so much hope they're going to come out healthy. Jesy and the twins have come through so much. There were so many times in this pregnancy we didn't think we'd get to where we are now. "Their strength has been unmatched. We literally feel like we know them already just because of how much they've overcome. Their characters are so strong. They're so brave."

Jesy Nelson's surprising nod to Little Mix in twins' names and sweet meaning

Jesy Nelson's choice of names for her twin daughters have strong meanings with a link to both the future and past Jesy Nelso has appeared to make a surprising nod to one of her former Little Mix bandmembers as she shared the adorable names of her tiny twin daughters. The singer, 33, has lived in hospital for the past ten weeks with partner Zion Foster to keep their babies safe and today revealed that she has given birth after an induced labour. ‌ The Mirror understands doctors had planned to induce Jesy's labour once the twins were deemed big and strong enough around the 32 week stage. ‌ Sharing photos of both herself and Zion cradling their daughters, she told her followers that it "all happened so quickly" and that they were "healthy and fighting strong". She added: "We've never felt more in love. Everybody meet Ocean Jade Nelson-Foster and Story Monroe Nelson-Foster. Born on 15.05.2025." The name Ocean, derived from the Greek word keanós, is often associated with power and mystery, but can also be seen as a symbol of new beginnings and hope. Coupling that with the middle name Jade - also the name of one of her former band mates - could potentially be seen as an olive branch to her former friend. Jesy famously distanced herself from Jade Thirlwall, Perie Edwards and Leigh-Anne Pinnock after she quit the band in 2020. Her choice of name for her other daughter Story draws a connection with creativity, imagination and adventure. It's derived from Old Norse storr, meaning 'large' or 'big'. Her middle name Monroe is of Scottish and Irish Gaelic origin and is a gender-neutral name, meaning mouth of the River Roe, referring to a specific river in Northern Ireland. There's also an edge of Hollywood glamour to it as Marilyn Monroe is naturally attached to the name. ‌ Jesy has documented her difficult and emotional pregnancy for fans over the last few months. Jesy had emergency surgery in April after the babies developed twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome - a rare condition which could have been fatal for one or both twins. ‌ After her operation, Jesy said: 'We feel so grateful and blessed that these little babies are still going strong,' And thankfully the twins progress has been positive throughout the remainder of the pregnancy. ‌ In May Jesy had posted black and white photos of herself with a giant bump and new scans of her twins. She wrote: 'Muma Nelson and Papa Foster' and added a heart emoji. In another set of photos she dubbed Zion 'my husband'. She has been dating Zion, from South London, since November 2022 and in May he ran the London Marathon to raise money for the Twins Trust, which offers support to families with twins. Speaking in the only interview during her pregnancy, Zion had said of the twins: 'They're giving us so much hope they're going to come out healthy. ‌ "Jesy and the twins have come through so much. There were so many times in this pregnancy we didn't think we'd get to where we are now. ''Their strength has been unmatched. We literally feel like we know them already just because of how much they've overcome. 'Their characters are so strong. They're so brave.'
