Beyoncé Charts An Unlikely Hit Alongside A Country Legend

Beyoncé and Dolly Parton's 'Tyrant' debuts at No. 83 on the U.K. Official Singles chart and earns ... More Parton her first placement on the Hip-Hop and R&B ranking. HOUSTON, TEXAS - OCTOBER 25: Beyoncé looks on during a campaign rally with Democratic presidential nominee, U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris, at Shell Energy Stadium on October 25, 2024 in Houston, Texas. Vice President Kamala Harris is campaigning in Texas holding a rally supporting reproductive rights with recording artists Beyoncé and Willie Nelson. (Photo by) Beyoncé's latest musical era brought her to the country field for the very first time. Cowboy Carter was quite the artistic risk for the superstar, but it paid off. The album was well received by critics and many fans, performed well commercially, and even earned the singer the coveted Album of the Year Grammy — an honor she had been working toward for decades. While Cowboy Carter may feature Beyoncé's signature take on the classic American genre, not every track on the project is categorized specifically as country. The powerhouse earns a new hit in the United Kingdom with one of the collaborations from the full-length… but it doesn't bring her to any country tally. Dolly Parton Joins Beyoncé on the U.K. Charts Dolly Parton is credited on two of the 27 songs featured on Cowboy Carter. One is essentially just a spoken word piece, while 'Tyrant' sees the two musicians teaming up for a proper song. That track debuts on multiple tallies in the U.K. this week, after recently going viral as Beyoncé tours Cowboy Carter around the world. 'Tyrant' launches on the Official Singles chart at No. 83. The tune also reaches the Official Hip-Hop and R&B Singles list, coming in at No. 17. Beyoncé Vs. Dolly Parton Parton has only racked up 11 wins on the top list of the most consumed songs in the U.K., while 'Tyrant' brings her to the Official Hip-Hop and R&B Singles tally for the first time. Beyoncé's list of hit songs is significantly longer than Parton's. She has accrued 74 solo smashes on the Official Singles chart — a number that doesn't include her work with Destiny's Child or The Carters. She has also snagged almost as many appearances on the list of the bestselling hip-hop and R&B tracks, as 'Tyrant' marks her sixty-third career win. 'Tyrant' Lands Ahead of 'Crazy in Love' Beyoncé fills two spaces on the Official Hip-Hop and R&B Singles chart with tracks that couldn't sound less like one another. 'Crazy in Love,' often remembered as her breakout solo smash, lives on the list and even advances this frame. 'Crazy in Love' sits one space behind 'Tyrant,' placing one of her oldest cuts next to one of her newest. Beyoncé and Dolly Parton on the Country Charts Interestingly, both Beyoncé and Parton score hit albums on the country charts in the U.K., but not the same ones. Cowboy Carter rises to No. 8 on the Official Country Artists Albums list while dipping from No. 1 to No. 3 on the Official Americana ranking. Parton, meanwhile, claims four spaces on the Official Country Compilations tally, and her The Very Best Of project returns to the summit.

Dolly Parton returns to the Official Singles chart after nearly 15 years with Beyoncé's 'Tyrant,' ... More which debuts at No. 83 in the U.K. after going viral. ARLINGTON, TEXAS - NOVEMBER 23: Dolly Parton performs during halftime in the game between the Washington Commanders and the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium on November 23, 2023 in Arlington, Texas. (Photo by) Dolly Parton's collection of hits on the Official Singles chart — the list of the biggest songs in the United Kingdom — runs surprisingly short. The country legend has only ever landed 11 appearances on the tally, as country music isn't nearly as popular on that side of the Atlantic as it is in the United States. The superstar scores a surprising win this week on the competitive roster alongside one of the most famous musicians in the world, returning for the first time in well over a decade. Dolly Parton And Beyoncé Debut Together Parton debuts on the Official Singles chart at No. 83 this week with "Tyrant." The track is fronted by Beyoncé, who recruited Parton to appear on her first country album, Cowboy Carter. "Tyrant" was never shared as an official single from the project, and it was originally released alongside the album in the spring of 2024. The tune has recently gone viral, and is now one of the 100 biggest songs in the U.K. Dolly Parton's First New Hit in More than a Decade "Tyrant" earns Parton her eleventh hit on the Official Singles chart and her first in almost 15 years. The last time the singer-songwriter launched a new track on the tally was in September 2011, when "Together You and I" entered and peaked at No. 67. 'Jolene' Started It All Parton first appeared on the Official Singles chart in May 1976 with "Jolene," which has gone on to become not just one of her most famous tracks, but one of the most celebrated country tunes in history. That song is tied with "Islands in the Stream," her collaboration with Kenny Rogers, for the honor of being her highest-rising win, as both peaked at No. 7 decades ago. Beyoncé Returns As Well Beyoncé earns her first new hit on the Official Singles chart in a little over a year. Coincidentally, in April 2024, she debuted her version of "Jolene," which peaked at No. 8, just one spot above "II Most Wanted," her collaboration with Miley Cyrus, which stalled at No. 9. Several tracks from Cowboy Carter, including "Texas Hold 'Em" and "16 Carriages," also appeared on the list. Beyoncé has now claimed dozens of wins on the roster throughout her career. 'Tyrant' Reaches Multiple Charts At Once As "Tyrant" arrives on the Official Singles chart, it also appears for the first time on the Official Hip-Hop and R&B Singles tally. Parton is new to that list, but Beyoncé has been reaching that ranking with a variety of tunes from many different projects for decades. "Tyrant" opens at No. 17 this week.

Dolly Parton Reveals What She Really Thought About Beyonce's ‘Completely Different' Cover of ‘Jolene'

Beyoncé reimagines Dolly Parton's iconic song "Jolene" on her 2024 Cowboy Carter album, transforming it from a plea into a powerful warning Dolly Parton praises Beyoncé's Cowboy Carter, calling the album 'really, really good' and expressing pride in the bold reinterpretation of her 1973 hit Parton appears twice on Cowboy Carter, including as a fictional radio DJ on the track "Dolly P" and in a cameo at the start of Beyoncé's song "Tyrant"Don't come for her man! Dolly Parton's 1973 hit, 'Jolene," has had Parton fans singing along for decades, but in 2024, Beyoncé put a modern spin on it. Beyoncé, 43, covered the song on her 2024 album Cowboy Carter, changing the tone and key lyrics of the song to serve as more of a warning instead of Parton's plea. For example, where Parton sings, 'I'm beggin' of you, please don't take my man,' Beyonce declares, 'I'm warning you, don't come for my man.' In an interview with PEOPLE tied to the release of her single-serve frozen meals with Conagra brands, Parton gushed about Beyoncé and her musical talent. 'I'm a huge fan of hers — I mean, who's not? Everybody loves her,' Parton said. 'I think she's a magnificent artist, beautiful and the dancing in addition to the singing.' Parton called Cowboy Carter a 'really, really good album,' one that features two cameos from the Country Music Hall of Famer. Parton is heard in the track "Dolly P," in which she plays a fake radio DJ queuing up the next set of songs. The "9 to 5" singer also contributed to the song "Tyrant," which is featured later on the record. The 10th track on the album is Beyoncé's fiery rendition of 'Jolene,' which Parton loved. 'I was just honored that she, of course, did a completely different take on 'Jolene' than than my version of it," Parton tells PEOPLE. "Hers was more like, 'Well, you're not getting him, you're not taking him, you're going to go through me to get him.' Mine was more like, 'Please don't take him!' So I loved her interpretation." She continued, 'As a writer, you like to hear how different people interpret your songs, and how they put their own spin and do their own take on it. But I was very proud of it, and I hope her tour does great, and I'm sure it will. People seem to be loving it.' Beyoncé is currently on the road for the Cowboy Carter Tour, which is set to conclude on July 26, in Paradise, Nev. Read the original article on People
