England U21 star Scott hails team-mate Anderson ahead of Euros semi-final

England U21 midfielder Alex Scott hailed teammate Elliot Anderson for his significant impact in helping the Young Lions progress to the semi-finals of the U21 European Championship. The pair have impressed as defensive midfielders in Lee Carsley's 4-2-2-2 system throughout this summer's tournament. Advertisement Anderson had a standout season for Nottingham Forest, providing eight goal contributions as the Reds secured European football for the first time since 1996. The Bournemouth midfielder was full of praise for his midfield partner, with the duo expected to start against the Netherlands in the semi-final on Wednesday night. '[It's been] really enjoyable,' he said. 'He's obviously had an amazing season at Forest. He's shown what he can do in the Premier League. 'Then, to come here, he's a massive player for us and he brings us so much experience, energy and his technical ability is very good as well. I've loved every minute of playing next to him in midfield. Advertisement 'We have a great relationship off the pitch and that comes on the pitch as well. He's a top, top player and we get along all the time.' Scott will be hoping to draw on experience gained from competing in the U19 European Championship back in 2022, where he scored with his first touch of the game in the semi-final against Italy. 'It's on a different scale,' he said. 'You're playing for the U21s now, and we've seen how good they were two years ago and what it took for them to win it. So I think that's almost the baseline for us. 'Like (Lee) Carsley said, we're a different group of players. We know what it takes to win, some of us, in the U19s. But we're just looking forward to it. We've been working so hard throughout the qualifying campaign, and we deserve to be here. 'Obviously, we're an England team. We go into every game with the mindset that we have the ability to win the game. So there's no reason why we're not going to do that tomorrow.'

The 2025 Under-19 European Championships is slowly reaching the business end, with only four teams remaining in the tournament. That team, 11 years ago, featured players like Joshua Kimmich and Julian Brandt, ones who became Champions League and DFB-Pokal winners later. With an eye on the U19 title, the Germans will face Spain, looking to build a next generation of champions, having failed to win a senior international since the Confederations Cup title in 2017. Meanwhile, Netherlands, back in the semifinals after seven years, will look to qualify for the final for the first time since 1970. Barcelona rubbing their hands as youngster's value shoots up following impressive displays at U19 Euros

Barcelona rubbing their hands as youngster's value shoots up following impressive displays at U19 Euros Barcelona youngster Noah Darvich is making headlines once again, but not necessarily for his performances in Spain. While the 18-year-old midfielder has seen limited action with Barça Atletic, his stock continues to rise, especially after a standout performance in the U19 European Championship for Germany. Advertisement In a thrilling 5-5 draw against England, Darvich was one of the standout players on the pitch. He registered a goal and an assist, and his overall numbers were equally impressive. The German midfielder completed 92% of his passes, maintained 100% accuracy on long runs and crosses, and showed the kind of composure and quality rarely seen at his age. Rising stocks His display did not go unnoticed, with reports from SPORT suggesting that Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund are both keeping a close eye on his situation. Despite not featuring much at club level in the youth academy, Darvich has been an important figure every time he has put on the German shirt, and that hasn't gone unnoticed by first-team manager Hansi Flick, who is said to rate the youngster very highly. Uncertain future at Barça Despite his promise, Darvich's future at Barcelona is uncertain. The club's midfield is already stacked, and breaking into the first team will be no easy task, especially with names like Pedri, Gavi, and Frenkie de Jong ahead of him. Advertisement That, along with his limited involvement in Barça Atletic, has sparked rumours of a possible exit this summer. Barcelona, however, are not planning to let him go without a transfer fee. The teenager joined the Catalans from Freiburg for a fee of €2.5 million, and the club believes that his current performances could help them recoup that amount or even earn a profit if he is sold. As things stand, Darvich has a contract until 2026, but the coming weeks could prove decisive. Whether he stays or leaves, it is clear that his talent is attracting serious attention across Europe.

Ethan Wheatley sparks incredible four goal comeback for England at U19 European Championship

Ethan Wheatley opened his scoring tally at the U19 European Championship last night against Germany. Down 5-1 in the 50th minute, Wheatley's goal sparked an incredible comeback for England over the ensuing 10 minutes. Advertisement The United striker poked in from close range to make it 5-2 after Zach Abbott's headed attempt was spilled by the German keeper. The goal sparked life into the young England side after a discouraging opening half which saw them overrun by Germany. England suddenly couldn't stop scoring as Reiss-Alexander Russell-Denny, Zach Abbott, and Jesse Derry scored in quick succession for England to make it 5-5. The result secured a point for England as they go into the final group stage match on two points where they will face off against group toppers Netherlands. Ethan Wheatley played the full 90 minutes against Germany after coming from the bench for the final eight minutes in the tournament opener against Norway. Advertisement England's first match also ended with the score deadlocked at 2-2 but Wheatley wasn't able to hit the net on that occasion despite a couple of chances. It was a mixed season for the 19 year old after a disappointing loan spell at Walsall. Performing excellently for United's U21s, Wheatley finished the season with nine goals in just 12 Premier League 2 appearances, including three goals in three after returning for the end of season play-offs. Wheatley's foray into senior football didn't see the same success though, making just four appearances during his loan spell and taking public criticism from the Walsall's manager who questioned his training performances. Advertisement To Wheatley's credit, Wheatley's response to being dropped from the squad led manager Mat Sadler to say 'since he hasn't been in the squad, he has trained so, so well and put himself in consideration to be on the pitch.' Ultimately, Wheatley wasn't able to break back into the Walsall side though and returned to United at the end of the season. Despite the disappointing spell on loan, Wheatley has continued to perform well at youth level for both United and England, showing he has plenty of talent to work with. Follow us on Bluesky: @

Who is Kieran Morrison? Liverpool talent who trained with Klopp could get Champions League chance

Given its position in the Champions League earned in the opening seven fixtures, Liverpool has been able to leave 12 senior stars at home for its trip to PSV. And that means young talents like Kieran Morrison potentially getting a chance. Liverpool made some eye-catching transfer decisions with many young players during the summer, with Bobby Clark, as just one example, leaving to join Champions League outfit Red Bull Salzburg. That was a surprise move away given he featured quite a lot last year. But the conveyor belt of players coming through in Kirkby is unlikely to slow down. Liverpool snapped up talented winger Rio Ngumoha from Chelsea, with sources at the time rubbishing claims that the Reds have broken their youth wage structure to sign him, and highly-rated full-back Alvin Ayman from Wolves. Having signed his first professional contract in April of last year, right winger slash attacking midfielder Kieran Morrison has played 19 times at youth level this season, scoring four times and providing five assists. He also represented his country, Northern Ireland, at the U19 European Championship this summer too. Morrison, who joined Liverpool from Manchester United when he was in the U14 age group, bears a resemblance to Curtis Jones not just in his physical appearance, but also the way that he dribbles with the ball. Though Morrison doesn't have electric pace, his quick, clever footwork often gives him an extra yard of space — and he can finish. Playing mainly from the right-hand side where the chops inside on his left foot, he scored 11 times in 20 appearances in the U18 Premier League last season for Liverpool. He also trained with the first team during the March international break. There are similarities between how Jones looked at a similar age when he was a much more forward-thinking and creative player than the one Jurgen Klopp molded at senior level. He has been compared to former Liverpool talent Harry Wilson, who now plays for Fulham, too. Now, he could show that on the biggest possible stage.
