FIFA approve Jens Castrop's switch of allegiance to South Korea

Jens Castrop (22) featured four times for the Germany U21 team but a knee injury ruled the midfielder out of the UEFA U21 European Championship. With little prospect of featuring for the Germany senior squad, Borussia Mönchengladbach's new signing has changed allegiances and – as per the website – will now represent South Korea. Castrop was born to a German father and a Korean mother. It brings an end to months of speculation after Jürgen Klinsmann tried to get Castrop to switch allegiances during his tenure as South Korea head coach which lasted 17 games. And now Myung-bo Hong has been watching the central-midfielder. Who is Jens Castrop? Born in Düsseldorf, Castrop came through FC Köln's youth academy but failed to make a single first team appearance. That resulted in a loan spell at 2. Bundesliga side Nürnberg in 2022 which came permanent the following season in 2023 for €900k. After 92 appearances across all competitions and seven goals and nine assists for der Club, Borussia Mönchengladbach signed Castrop – who can also play at right-back – for €4.5m. Flavio Nazinho 'on the way' to Celtic as Brendan Rodgers has his transfer wish granted

The search for a left-back appears to be rapidly approaching a conclusion for the Hoops Cercle Brugge left-back Flavio Nazinho is reportedly closing in on a move to Celtic with Brendan Rodgers' set to add competition for Kieran Tierney. The 21-year-old looks set to replaced the void left by Greg Taylor following the Scotland international's departure to greek outfit PAOK. ‌ HLN report that the Portuguese star is "on his way to Celtic" and a deal could be completed "in the short term." ‌ It is claimed that Nazinho caught the attention of the Scottish Premiership champions at the U21 European Championship after impressing for Portugal. He joined Cercle permanently for €1million (£866k) and has a contract until 2028 - with Sporting reportedly due 15 per cent of the fee when the player is sold on to another club. It comes after Brendan Rodgers' made it clear that he was looking for another left-back to compete with returning hero Tierney - despite being impressed by the early impressions made by Hayato Inamura. Following the 3-2 behind-closed-doors friendly defeat against Estrela Da Amadora in Lisbon, Rodgers said: "The pre-season is always to assess. "We know the model here at the club is always to improve them. Sometimes that means they come in and you assess and look, and look to see what's right for the development of them and the team. ‌ "That's what I'm about, getting a collection of individual players that I can see development and improvement in. "If they are going to be close to the first-team, they'll stay and do that. If not, we may feel they need to go out. "Ina's that example. I just wanted to get the chance to see him and we'll continue to do that. ‌ "But we know in the background that if we need to move on that position, that if we need to move on that position, that's something that we will be ready to do." Rodgers has previously admitted 23-year-old Inamura could be allowed to leave this summer - despite just joining the club from Albirex Niigata. Germany had a somewhat easier semi-final, beating France 3-0. They come into the match without a loss at the tournament, having also beaten England 2-1 in the final game of Group B on 18 June. The Germans boast top tournament goalscorer Nick Woltemade, though England's Harvey Elliott is also in the running for the player of the tournament, and he's been one of the catalysts for England's improved form since they entered the knockout phase. Despite Germany's previous success, football betting sites can find little to separate the two sides and the stage is set for a tense finale. While England did lose 2-1 to Germany just over a week ago, there were four changes to the side that ended up beating Spain. The improvement in both results and performances since that game—combined with facing more difficult opponents—means that England may well be better prepared for this match than their German counterparts. The Young Lions have only kept one clean sheet so far, while Germany have managed two. At the other end, England have scored nine goals and Germany 15, so we expect goals in this one.
