Trump will never escape the shadow of Biden's character

Biden posted on social media May 26: "On Memorial Day, let us pause to remember and honor the brave women and men who made the ultimate sacrifice so we could live our lives in peace and possibility. Today we also honor the families they left behind whose hearts still carry the weight of absence." Trump, on that same day, shared a post that described Biden, recently diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer, as "a decrepit corpse." Classy. Trump's Memorial Day post was the stuff of nightmares Trump's own message on Memorial Day, a day meant to honor and mourn military men and women who died serving their country, was this: "HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY TO ALL, INCLUDING THE SCUM THAT SPENT THE LAST FOUR YEARS TRYING TO DESTROY OUR COUNTRY THROUGH WARPED RADICAL LEFT MINDS, WHO ALLOWED 21,000,000 MILLION PEOPLE TO ILLEGALLY ENTER OUR COUNTRY, MANY OF THEM BEING CRIMINALS AND THE MENTALLY INSANE,THROUGH AN OPEN BORDER THAT ONLY AN INCOMPETENT PRESIDENT WOULD APPROVE, AND THROUGH JUDGES WHO ARE ON A MISSION TO KEEP MURDERERS, DRUG DEALERS, RAPISTS, GANG MEMBERS, AND RELEASED PRISONERS FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD, IN OUR COUNTRY SO THEY CAN ROB, MURDER, AND RAPE AGAIN -- ALL PROTECTED BY THESE USA HATING JUDGES WHO SUFFER FROM AN IDEOLOGY THAT IS SICK, AND VERY DANGEROUS FOR OUR COUNTRY. HOPEFULLY THE UNITED STATES SUPREME COURT, AND OTHER GOOD AND COMPASSIONATE JUDGES THROUGHOUT THE LAND, WILL SAVE US FROM THE DECISIONS OF THE MONSTERS WHO WANT OUR COUNTRY TO GO TO HELL. BUT FEAR NOT, WE HAVE MADE GREAT PROGRESS OVER THE LAST 4 MONTHS, AND AMERICA WILL SOON BE SAFE AND GREAT AGAIN! AGAIN, HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY, AND GOD BLESS AMERICA!" OK. That's ... a lot. That's a whole lot, in fact. None of it is good. Biden, unlike Trump, spoke of veterans with reverence And if that weren't enough, the disparity between the characters of the two men was made clearer later in the week. Biden spoke to veterans on May 30 at a Memorial Day service in Delaware, his first speech since the cancer diagnosis. "Folks, you know, for generation after generation, that profound idea has been defended by ordinary citizens who stepped up and answered the call," Biden said. "Because of them, American democracy has endured for nearly 250 years. Every generation - every generation - every generation - has to fight to maintain that democracy. Every time, every generation. Because of them, our government is still of the people, by the people and for the people. They are we. And we are still free. And now, we must make sure that sacrifice has never been in vain." 'I really don't feel sorry for him' That same day, Trump spoke to reporters in the Oval Office. He made false claims that the economy is now better under him than it was under Biden. And during a lengthy bit of rambling, he said this of his predecessor: "Look, he's been a sort of a moderate person over his lifetime. Not a smart person. But a somewhat vicious person, I will say. If you feel sorry for him, don't feel so sorry, because he's vicious, what he did with his political opponent and all of the people that he hurt. He hurt a lot of people. And so, I really don't feel sorry for him." Opinion: TACO Trump? President lashes out at 'Trump Always Chickens Out' talk. Hilarious. Because Trump rarely makes sense, it wasn't clear if he was saying not to feel sorry for Biden because of the cancer diagnosis or if Trump was making reference to his usual spurious claims about the former president's mental capacity. Regardless, "I really don't feel sorry for him" is a generally crappy thing to say about anyone with cancer - period. And calling the person dumb and "vicious" isn't great, either. Character differences between Biden and Trump remain stark Biden, as president, was not perfect, and never claimed to be. But he continues, in the face of a serious health crisis, to speak with decency and patriotism. Trump, on the other hand, consistently claims he's perfect. Almost infallible. And he speaks like a callous jerk who wouldn't know decency if it stood in front of him. Opinion: Russia better start listening to big, tough Donald Trump. He is SERIOUS! With Biden having served the four years between Trump's two terms, the two will forever be bound in political history. But Biden's character will always - always - outshine Trump's. And the person who knows that better than anyone? The ever-spiteful Donald J. Trump. Follow USA TODAY columnist Rex Huppke on Bluesky at @ and on Facebook at

"Liberation Day" is cancelled: Trump's global tariffs ruled illegal

A federal court ruled that Donald Trump overstepped his authority when he attempted to set unilateral 10% tariffs on nearly all U.S. trading partners. The U.S. Court of International Trade said that the president's emergency powers justification for the tariffs didn't pass muster, in a ruling issued on Wednesday. The three-judge panel objected to the Trump administration's argument that the International Emergency Economic Powers Act granted "unbounded tariff authority" to the executive branch. In their ruling, they called for a narrow reading of the act and the powers it grants. "The President's assertion of tariff-making authority in the instant case, unbounded as it is by any limitation in duration or scope, exceeds any tariff authority delegated to the President under IEEPA," they wrote. "The Worldwide and Retaliatory tariffs are thus ultra vires and contrary to law." White House spokesperson Kush Desai bashed the ruling, saying that Trump should be able to use "every lever of executive power to address this crisis." 'It is not for unelected judges to decide how to properly address a national emergency,' he said. The ruling is merely the latest judicial hindrance to Trump's second-term agenda. The president lashed out at his foes in the judiciary on Memorial Day, calling them "USA-hating judges" in a post to Truth Social. "HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY TO ALL, INCLUDING THE SCUM THAT SPENT THE LAST FOUR YEARS TRYING TO DESTROY OUR COUNTRY THROUGH WARPED RADICAL LEFT MINDS... AND THROUGH JUDGES WHO ARE ON A MISSION TO KEEP MURDERERS, DRUG DEALERS, RAPISTS, GANG MEMBERS, AND RELEASED PRISONERS FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD, IN OUR COUNTRY," he wrote. "HOPEFULLY THE UNITED STATES SUPREME COURT, AND OTHER GOOD AND COMPASSIONATE JUDGES THROUGHOUT THE LAND, WILL SAVE US FROM THE DECISIONS OF THE MONSTERS WHO WANT OUR COUNTRY TO GO TO HELL."

Trump Shares Post Calling Biden a 'Decrepit Corpse' Days After His Stage 4 Prostate Cancer Diagnosis

President Donald Trump continued attacking his predecessor, former President Joe Biden, over Memorial Day weekend. The president shared a Truth Social post from a MAGA loyalist who wrote that Democrats "stole the 2020 election and hijacked the country using a decrepit corpse as a frontman." The post came just hours after Trump used his own Memorial Day post to take aim at the Biden administration, and days after Biden announced his stage 4 cancer diagnosis. Donald Trump's attacks on Joe Biden continued over Memorial Day weekend as the president reposted a spiteful threat on his social media account. On his Truth Social page on Monday, May 26, Trump reshared a text post from a user known as DC Draino, a right-wing content creator who was recently included in one of the Trump White House's MAGA-only press briefings. "They stole the 2020 election and hijacked the country using a decrepit corpse as a frontman," the post stated, repeating unfounded conspiracy theories about the Biden administration and the Democratic Party. "They used an autopen to start wars, steal from our treasury, and pardon their friends." It concluded, "Arrest those responsible and charge them with TREASON." The repost came just hours after Trump, 78, wrote his own Memorial Day message on Truth Social, where he did not pay tribute to U.S. veterans or praise active service members, but instead attacked Biden, 82, without addressing him by name. "HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY TO ALL, INCLUDING THE SCUM THAT SPENT THE LAST FOUR YEARS TRYING TO DESTROY OUR COUNTRY THROUGH WARPED RADICAL LEFT MINDS,' Trump wrote on Truth Social early Monday morning. The president went on to claim in all-caps that the Biden administration allowed millions of immigrants to "illegally enter our country, many of them being criminals and the mentally insane." And in the post, Trump also leveled blame for his current U.S. immigration concerns on "an incompetent president" and "judges who are on a mission to keep murderers, drug dealers, rapists, gang members and released prisoners from all over the world in our country so they can rob, murder and rape again." Trump then wrote, "HOPEFULLY THE UNITED STATES SUPREME COURT, AND OTHER GOOD AND COMPASSIONATE JUDGES THROUGHOUT THE LAND, WILL SAVE US FROM THE DECISIONS OF THE MONSTERS WHO WANT OUR COUNTRY TO GO TO HELL. BUT FEAR NOT, WE HAVE MADE GREAT PROGRESS OVER THE LAST 4 MONTHS, AND AMERICA WILL SOON BE SAFE AND GREAT AGAIN!" Biden made a rare appearance with family over the holiday weekend, just one week after announcing that he's been diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer. "He was diagnosed with prostate cancer, characterized by a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) with metastasis to the bone," Biden's office shared in a statement on May 18. "While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive which allows for effective management. The President and his family are reviewing treatment options with his physicians." Hours after Biden's diagnosis was shared, President Trump reacted to the news on social media. In a statement on Truth Social, Trump wished Biden a "successful recovery." "Melania and I are saddened to hear about Joe Biden's recent medical diagnosis," Trump wrote. "We extend our warmest and best wishes to Jill and the family, and we wish Joe a fast and successful recovery." Read the original article on People

Trump Brags About Hosting Olympics and World Cup in Memorial Day Speech: ‘I Have Everything'

President Donald Trump used his Memorial Day speech on Monday to boast that he would be the sitting president when the 2026 World Cup and the 2028 Summer Olympics come to the United States. 'Amazing, the way things work out,' Trump marveled. 'I got the World Cup, and I got the Olympics.' Addressing a crowd after visiting the Arlington National Cemetery with Vice President J.D. Vance and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, where he laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Trump joked he was glad that he lost the 2020 U.S. Presidential election because he'd be able to commemorate the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States Army. 'In some ways, I'm glad I missed that second term where it was, because I wouldn't be your president for that — most important of all,' Trump said before getting sidetracked. 'In addition, we have the World Cup, and we have the Olympics. Can you imagine? I missed that four years, and now look what I have. I have everything.' Trump only managed to get through four minutes of his speech before taking a swipe at the previous administration, saying that while soldiers had laid down their lives for the 'most noble Republic ever to exist on the face of the earth,' he was now in the process of 'fixing' the country. 'That was a hard four years we went through,' Trump said to applause. 'Who would let that happen? People pouring through our borders, unchecked. People doing things that are indescribable and not for today to discuss.' Still, Trump spent the majority of his address thanking the families of fallen veterans. 'Every Gold Star family fights a battle long after the victory is won,' Trump said. 'Today, we lift you up and we hold you high … Thank you for giving America the brightest light in your lives. It's what you've done. We will never ever forget our fallen heroes, and we will never forget our debt to you.' It was a markedly more somber tone than earlier in the morning, when Trump posted an all-caps, run-on-sentence tirade on Truth Social complaining about immigration policies, 'USA-hating judges,' and 'monsters who want our country to go to hell.' 'HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY TO ALL, INCLUDING THE SCUM THAT SPENT THE LAST FOUR YEARS TRYING TO DESTROY OUR COUNTRY THROUGH WARPED RADICAL LEFT MINDS,' Trump wrote. 'WHO ALLOWED 21,000,000 MILLION PEOPLE TO ILLEGALLY ENTER OUR COUNTRY, MANY OF THEM BEING CRIMINALS AND THE MENTALLY INSANE, THROUGH AN OPEN BORDER THAT ONLY AN INCOMPETENT PRESIDENT WOULD APPROVE, AND THROUGH JUDGES WHO ARE ON A MISSION TO KEEP MURDERERS, DRUG DEALERS, RAPISTS, GANG MEMBERS, AND RELEASED PRISONERS FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD, IN OUR COUNTRY SO THEY CAN ROB, MURDER, AND RAPE AGAIN — ALL PROTECTED BY THESE USA HATING JUDGES WHO SUFFER FROM AN IDEOLOGY THAT IS SICK, AND VERY DANGEROUS FOR OUR COUNTRY.
