Nicholas Monteiro Joins HMD for INDY NXT Debut at Portland

INDYCAR Nicholas Monteiro will join HMD Motorsports for the 2025 INDY NXT by Firestone Grand Prix of Portland on Aug. 8-10, his debut in the INDYCAR development series. Monteiro will drive the No. 24 HMD Motorsports car on the 12-turn, 1.964-mile natural road course at Portland International Raceway. Brazilian-American driver Monteiro will pull double duty at Portland, as he will add his full-time driving duties in the USF Pro 2000 series to his INDY NXT debut. HMD is coming off its best weekend of the season at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, as team driver Caio Collet swept both races of the doubleheader from the pole position. 'I'm incredibly excited for the opportunity to drive for HMD Motorsports in Portland,' Monteiro said. 'It's another step closer to achieving my goals in racing. I'm grateful to the team for believing in me and to my partners for their support. 'I have traveled to the team's headquarters in Indiana, and it is an incredible facility. Their results in years past and the success at the last event at Laguna Seca show that they are one of the top teams in the series. I'm ready to put in the work and add to HMD's success.' Monteiro, 20, has gained valuable experience across multiple championships. After a successful karting career, he advanced to the Brazilian and Italian F4 Championships before making his USF Pro 2000 debut in 2023. Earlier this year, Monteiro competed in the Castrol Toyota Formula Regional Oceania Trophy (CTFROT), where he finished 12th overall in a series HMD Motorsports plans to enter in 2026. 'We're very happy to have Nicholas join us for the final road course race of the year,' HMD Motorsports President Mike Maurini said. 'We've followed his progress closely in USF Pro 2000 and in international series and believe in his talent and speed. Nicholas will bring fresh energy to the team, building on the momentum from our recent success at Laguna Seca.' recommended Item 1 of 3

Douglas Heads To Toronto For Penultimate Round Of USF Pro 2000 Season

The Streets of Toronto are the next stop for Jacob Douglas in the 2025 USF Pro 2000 Championship Presented by Continental Tires, with the 1.786-mile (2.87 km), 11-turn street circuit hosting the penultimate race weekend of the season. Douglas heads into this weekend's double-header sitting fifth in the standings, just 44 points shy of second place. Championship leader and Douglas's Pabst Racing teammate, Max Garcia, holds a commanding 97-point lead and could clinch the title in Toronto. The 20-year-old brings valuable experience to the Canadian street course, having raced at Toronto four times in USF2000, where he scored two top-five finishes and finished outside the top ten only once. 'This is one of my favourite tracks, and I'm so excited to get back out there,' said Douglas. 'We've had some strong results here in the past, so we'll be gunning for more this weekend. 'The championship battle from second through sixth is super tight, and a strong showing in Toronto could see Pabst Racing holding first and second in the standings.' With five podiums this season, including a race win at Indianapolis Motor Speedway and a second-placed finish last round at Mid-Ohio, Douglas is eyeing more silverware in the final stretch. 'We've shown strong pace all year, and with only four races left, there's no reason we can't add to that tally.' Pabst Racing also leads the Team's Championship by 172 points, with the results of the top two finishers of each race per team contributing to the standings. Following Toronto, the 2025 USF Pro 2000 season concludes in Portland, where Douglas took his maiden USF2000 victory at Portland International Raceway. 'Two tracks we're strong on to wrap up the season—looking forward to finishing with momentum on our side!' the young Kiwi added. This weekend's USF Pro 2000 action supports the NTT IndyCar Series and kicks off with practice at 3:35 AM NZST on Saturday, followed by Qualifying 1 at 6:10 AM. Qualifying 2 takes place at 1:35 AM on Sunday, ahead of Race 1 at 8:20 AM. The weekend concludes with Race 2 at 2:20 AM on Monday morning. Both qualifying sessions and races will be streamed live on the USF Pro Championships YouTube channel. About Jacob Douglas Jacob Douglas is a 19-year-old racecar driver from New Zealand. Rowe Leads Rain-Interrupted Open Test at Milwaukee Mile

INDYCAR Series veteran Myles Rowe led the INDY NXT by Firestone Open Test on June 24 at the Milwaukee Mile, edging rookie and championship leader Dennis Hauger. Rowe was fastest among the 20 drivers in the rain-interrupted test with a lap of 151.751 mph in the No. 99 Abel/Force Indy car. 2023 USF Pro 2000 champion Rowe is seeking his first INDY NXT victory in his second season in the INDYCAR development series. SEE: Test Results 'Happy with the day,' Rowe said. 'It's looking good for Milwaukee, and we had a pretty good Iowa test. Very clearly looking forward to the ovals. Hopefully we can just carry the momentum and the execution toward those events. This is good momentum to continue the season.' Drivers tested on the historic 1-mile oval at Wisconsin State Fair Park to prepare for the series race Sunday, Aug. 24, the penultimate event of the season. Late morning rain forced a delay of four hours, 12 minutes today before drivers returned to the track midway through the afternoon. Formula 2 veteran Hauger, who never turned a lap on an oval before this season, continued to build his experience and circle-track speed by ending up second at 150.618 in the No. 28 Nammo car of Andretti Global. Andretti Global-affiliated drivers took the next four spots in the order. Rookie Lochie Hughes was third at 150.415 in the No. 26 McGinley Clinic/USF Pro Championship machine. Hughes is second in the standings, 28 points behind Hauger. Salvador de Alba continued the power play by Andretti Global, ending up fourth at 149.753 in the No. 27 Grupo Indi entry. Ricardo Escotto rounded out the top five at 149.469 in the No. 3 Frank's Red Hot machine of Andretti – Cape Motorsport. The next event for the series is the INDY NXT by Firestone Grand Prix at Mid-Ohio on Sunday, July 6 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course near Columbus, Ohio. recommended

Lochie Hughes Aims To Shave Dennis Hauger's Lead at Road America

INDYCAR Lochie Hughes earned his fifth top-three finish in six INDY NXT by Firestone races this season via his victory June 15 at World Wide Technology Raceway. Andretti Global rookie Hughes halved his deficit from 38 to 19 points to rookie teammate Dennis Hauger, who finished fifth on the 1.25-mile oval. SEE: Event Details Hughes is surging at the right time, and all eyes are on him heading into Road America for Sunday's 20-lap race around the 4.014-mile, 14-turn road course located between Milwaukee and Green Bay in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. Here are some storylines to watch for Sunday's race airing at 11 a.m. ET on FS1, the FOX Sports app and the INDYCAR Radio Network. Hughes Keeping Hauger Honest Hughes and Hauger are rookies leading the way in 2025 in the INDYCAR development series. Hauger had a firm grasp on the championship standings via four wins in the opening five races. However, Hughes remains in striking distance thanks to a 2.25 average finish over the last four races, compared to 3.75 from Hauger. Road America could provide another thrilling battle between the duo. Hughes has four wins in five junior category starts at the track, all coming in succession. He won the second race of the 2023 USF 2000 Championship, then swept the USF Pro 2000 series tripleheader at Road America last season. Formula 2 veteran Hauger has never been to the track, but many mention the circuit is reminiscent of a European road course, which could help the 22-year-old contend for his fifth victory of 2025. Road America Winner Often Becomes INDYCAR SERIES Mainstay Road America has a reputation for spotlighting future INDYCAR SERIES stars. Based on recent history, winning at Road America doesn't guarantee a championship, but it does validate elite talent. The winners' list since 2018 includes names of current drivers in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES, including Colton Herta (2018 winner), Rinus VeeKay (2019), Kyle Kirkwood and David Malukas (2021), Christian Rasmussen (2022) and Nolan Siegel (2023). Can HMD Motorsports Halt Andretti Global Domination? Andretti Global is 6-for-6 in INDY NXT by Firestone races this season, with Hauger winning four times and Hughes twice. Dating to Race 2 of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course weekend in 2024, the team has 15 wins in the last 17 series races. At Road America, the team finished 1-2 last year via Jamie Chadwick's maiden victory. She beat eventual champion and teammate Louis Foster. The level of control is impressive, but not impenetrable – especially at Road America, where HMD Motorsports has matched Andretti win-for-win over the last four races. Andretti Global has three wins in its last eight Road America starts compared to HMD scoring three in the last four. Does that open the door for second-year HMD Motorsports driver Caio Collet? The Brazilian earned his first oval pole last weekend at WWTR and led 58 of the first 61 laps before fading to third in the closing laps. He remains third in the standings but gained five points on Hauger, trailing by 79. Collet is heating up with four podiums this season, three coming in the last four races. He has a sixth-place average finish in 11 natural road course starts, which includes four top-two results. Collet finished fifth as a rookie at Road America last year. His teammate Josh Pierson is having a career year and could be a surprise contender this weekend. Pierson is sixth in points with four top-six finishes in the last five races. The 19-year-old Oregon native finished a career-best fourth June 1 on the streets of Detroit. Does Andretti remain perfect in 2025, or can a well-timed HMD victory break the streak? Rowe, De Alba Showing Strong Consistency The Hughes and Hauger show has grabbed most of the INDY NXT by Firestone headlines. But there's a cluster of talented drivers quietly stacking results and building momentum. If any of them catch fire over the next few rounds, the title race could become much hotter. In addition to Collet, Myles Rowe has arguably been the one of the most consistent drivers outside of Andretti Global with five top-four finishes in six starts this season for ABEL Motorsports, including three podiums in the last four. He gained seven points on Hauger at WWTR by finishing runner-up and is 88 points back in the standings. Rowe has enjoyed success at Road America on multiple rungs in the junior categories. Rowe finished runner-up in both USF2000 races at Road America in 2022, and second and fourth in USF Pro 2000 in 2023. Andretti Global driver Salvador de Alba isn't displaying flashy numbers like his rookie teammates, but he's delivering steady results with four top-five finishes in six races, including three in the last four. He finished 21st at Road America last year. Track Specs: 4.014-mile, 14-turn permanent road course (clockwise), in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin Qualifying Record: Kyffin Simpson, 1:49.1028, 132.448 mph, June 17, 2023 Push to Pass Parameters: 150 seconds of total time with a maximum time of 15 seconds per activation recommended
