Former Packers President/CEO Mark Murphy taking new role with University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Athletics
GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – Officials with the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay announced on Wednesday that former Packers President and CEO Mark Murphy will be joining the Phoenix athletic department in a new and inaugural role. According to a release from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, Murphy has accepted a role the the Phoenix's inaugural Executive in Residence. We are honored to have Mark Murphy join UW-Green Bay as an Executive in Residence. His passion for this region, belief in the importance of education, his experience as a D1 Athletic Director, and his incredible qualities as a leader will continue to inspire us. UWGB Chancellor Mike Alexander Being named UWGB's inaugural Executive in Residence, Murphy will be focusing primarily on evaluating the profile and strengths of the Phoenix Athletics' D1 programs and partnerships. Mark Murphy Murphy, who retired in July on his 70th birthday, had been the Packers' President and CEO since 2007 and played a vital role in several major projects, including the Titletown District and bringing the . Prior to his time with the Packers, he also spent over a decade in college athletics, serving as the Director of Athletics at Colgate University from 1992 to 2003 and at Northwestern University from 2003 to 2007. Former Packers president and CEO Mark Murphy takes a new role at UW-Green Bay
Former Green Bay Packers President and CEO Mark Murphy is returning to his college roots. The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay said on Aug. 13 that Murphy is its first executive in residence, with an office in the Kress Events Center Athletics building on the UW-Green Bay campus. Murphy retired as the Packers' president and CEO on July 25, having reached the mandatory retirement age of 70. Before joining the Packers in 2008, he was athletic director at Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill., and before that, at Colgate University in Hamilton, N.Y., his alma mater. According to the university, Murphy will focus on elevating the profile and strength of Phoenix Athletics' D1 programs and building partnerships throughout the region with individuals and businesses. He will assist with strategic projects, including capital improvements, sports sponsorships and long-term sustainable excellence for Phoenix athletics. Murphy also will assist with mentorship of coaches and staff, and work on special initiatives for the chancellor, including Phoenix Innovation Park. As president of the Packers, Murphy oversaw many of those same kind of processes. The Packers invested more than $600 million in programs and facilities on the Lambeau Field and Titletown campuses, and the Packers were among the top winning teams in the NFL during his tenure. They won Super Bowl XLV in 2011. He lead the NFL in interceptions in 1983. After football, he was an executive for the NFL Players Association, and after that a trial attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice. Murphy will be inducted into the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame on Aug. 28 during a banquet at Lambeau Field. UW-Green Bay educator joins Great Lakes research voyage aboard EPA vessel
GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – UW-Green Bay educator Robert Fish is taking to the water this summer, joining scientists and staff from the Center for Great Lakes Literacy aboard the EPA research vessel Lake Guardian for a weeklong scientific expedition. Fish, who serves as the Tribal Engagement Coordinator at UW-Green Bay, works with tribal schools to create and promote educational programs focused on wetlands, estuaries, and coastlines. His work connects water science to Wisconsin First Nation history, culture, and sovereignty. Wisconsin State Patrol to soon kick off 'Trooper in a Truck' 'I'm really looking forward to doing scientific research that can directly impact our understanding of the tribal history and presence in the Bay of Green Bay and also the Great Lakes in general,' Fish said before the trip. 'With some of the lakebed mapping efforts happening through this project, we could find Indigenous sites, which could bring what many consider ancient tribal history into a contemporary light.' The voyage is part of a broader partnership between the EPA Great Lakes National Program Office and NOAA, with support from the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative. During the expedition, educators work alongside researchers to study Lake Michigan, gaining knowledge and tools to bring back to their classrooms. The Lake Michigan expedition is hosted by Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant and Wisconsin Sea Grant, in partnership with the Center for Great Lakes Literacy (CGLL), which is a collaborative network of Sea Grant educators from across the Great Lakes region. Through hands-on experiences and fieldwork, the initiative fosters informed stewardship and environmental literacy among students, teachers, and communities throughout the Great Lakes basin.
