Soon, book your Mumbai Metro ticket through Uber app
Mumbai commuters will soon be able to book Metro tickets through the Uber app, as part of the cab aggregator's planned rollout of its Metro ticketing integration with the government-supported Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC). The feature, already live in Delhi, will be rolled out in Mumbai soon. The new feature is likely to enable users to book multimodal trips uniting Metro and taxi services on one app interface. 'Users can directly book Metro tickets within the Uber app using our integration with ONDC. Following an unprecedented response in Delhi, we are planning to roll out Metro ticketing to Chennai and Mumbai,' the company stated. The announcement comes at a time when city public transport networks are being changed and expanded many times in cities such as Mumbai. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has been expanding the Metro network around the city progressively, while it is also trying to converge ticketing and mobility solutions across transport modes. With the new feature, Uber will be one of the first private platforms to provide Metro ticketing for Mumbai via ONDC in line with wider visions of digital public transport options. This was included in a broader set of new features that Uber rolled out in India. While the features are for users in all cities, some of them will soon be live in Mumbai as well. In the coming weeks, Uber will also start Airport Priority Access at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport or Mumbai airport, which will streamline terminal pick-ups. This will come at the P6 level of CSMIA. Uber's parcel delivery feature, Courier XL, under which users can send packages up to 750 kg, has begun in Mumbai. The city also has access to Uber Pet, a ride type for individuals with a dog or cat on board, available under reserve-only rides. Another service, Uber for Seniors, should also roll out this month, with a more streamlined interface having fewer steps and bigger buttons, designed to make the app easier to use for seniors.
