Soon, book your Mumbai Metro ticket through Uber app

Indian Express08-07-2025
Mumbai commuters will soon be able to book Metro tickets through the Uber app, as part of the cab aggregator's planned rollout of its Metro ticketing integration with the government-supported Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC). The feature, already live in Delhi, will be rolled out in Mumbai soon.
The new feature is likely to enable users to book multimodal trips uniting Metro and taxi services on one app interface. 'Users can directly book Metro tickets within the Uber app using our integration with ONDC. Following an unprecedented response in Delhi, we are planning to roll out Metro ticketing to Chennai and Mumbai,' the company stated.
The announcement comes at a time when city public transport networks are being changed and expanded many times in cities such as Mumbai. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has been expanding the Metro network around the city progressively, while it is also trying to converge ticketing and mobility solutions across transport modes.
With the new feature, Uber will be one of the first private platforms to provide Metro ticketing for Mumbai via ONDC in line with wider visions of digital public transport options. This was included in a broader set of new features that Uber rolled out in India. While the features are for users in all cities, some of them will soon be live in Mumbai as well.
In the coming weeks, Uber will also start Airport Priority Access at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport or Mumbai airport, which will streamline terminal pick-ups. This will come at the P6 level of CSMIA.
Uber's parcel delivery feature, Courier XL, under which users can send packages up to 750 kg, has begun in Mumbai. The city also has access to Uber Pet, a ride type for individuals with a dog or cat on board, available under reserve-only rides. Another service, Uber for Seniors, should also roll out this month, with a more streamlined interface having fewer steps and bigger buttons, designed to make the app easier to use for seniors.

Buldi-Koradi Metro Plan Triggers Real Estate Buzz

Nagpur: Even before the blueprint is ready, the proposed Sitabuldi to Koradi Metro corridor — part of Metro Phase 3 expansion — has triggered a flurry of discussions across Nagpur. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now From real estate circles to residential localities along the stretch, speculations around station placement, construction format, and the impact on property values are gaining momentum. Construction alignment is one of the most hotly discussed topic. Senior Metro officials clarified that underground construction will only be chosen when absolutely unavoidable due to significantly higher costs. However, the first 3km of the corridor — beginning from Kasturchand Park — may need to go underground due to existing flyovers and dense urban infrastructure. After that, the line is likely to shift to at-grade and then elevated formats, said a senior official. The 11.5km corridor is one of the four high-capacity MRTS corridors proposed under the Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP) prepared by MahaMetro in collaboration with RITES. According to sources, Metro guidelines mandate one station approximately every 1 to 1.5km, which means around 10 stations are likely along this stretch — though exact locations will depend on population density and land availability. After studying Metro DPRs and consulting officials, the estimated cost for Phase 3 is around Rs300 crore per kilometre, bringing the total projected expenditure to approximately Rs3,500 crore. Currently, ridership projections suggest the corridor will cater to 5,600 passengers per hour per direction (PHPDT) in 2031, increasing to 11,800 PHPDT by 2054. Daily ridership is expected to grow from 0.65 lakh in 2031 to 1.47 lakh by 2054 — indicating the strategic importance of this corridor in connecting key northern residential zones to the city centre. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now While no Detailed Project Report (DPR) has been prepared yet, officials confirmed that the proposal is under review, with a 15-day window given for stakeholder suggestions. Only after this period will the tendering process begin for the preparation of a DPR. The Metro expansion has triggered renewed interest in the real estate market along the corridor. Residents are curious about whether a station will be located near their neighbourhood, and how it might affect property prices. Developers are also eyeing opportunities for transit-oriented development (TOD), which typically leads to densification, commercial growth, and better urban infrastructure. Though the buzz is high, authorities caution that no final decisions have been made. The current phase involves gathering inputs from multiple stakeholders — including urban planners, local bodies, and citizens. Only after this will a DPR be commissioned, which will determine the final route, construction plan, and station locations. For now, the Sitabuldi–Koradi Metro remains one of the city's most anticipated urban mobility developments — one that could reshape Nagpur's northern growth corridor in the years to come.

Uber Intercity grows to 3,000 routes; unveils premium Motorhomes service

Uber adds 1,000 new routes in intercity push; pilot of luxury Motorhomes to offer TV, lavatory, and mini-fridge for premium getaways starting August 7 Udisha Srivastav New Delhi Uber has expanded its Intercity services across India by nearly 50 per cent, now covering over 3,000 point-to-point routes. Company executives expect this growth trajectory to continue in the next calendar year as demand for intercity travel picks up. "We are growing roughly in the range of 40 to 50 per cent year-on-year. I think that's the kind of growth we continue to anticipate for the years to come, and hopefully even break that record," said Shweta Mantri, head of rider verticals at Uber India and South Asia, speaking on the sidelines of a company event in New Delhi on Thursday. Among the most travelled Intercity corridors over the past year were Mumbai–Pune, Delhi–Agra, Bangalore–Mysore, Lucknow–Kanpur, and Ahmedabad–Vadodara—especially around long weekends and holidays. Fridays emerged as the most preferred departure day, with travellers choosing early morning hours or the mid-afternoon lull (2 PM–3 PM) to beat traffic. To further accelerate adoption of Intercity services, Uber announced the pilot of a premium offering—Motorhomes—in Delhi's National Capital Region. The one-month pilot, starting August 7, is aimed at travellers seeking luxury and comfort for short getaways. Bookings for Motorhomes will open on August 4 and can be made through the Uber Intercity or Uber Reserve options. The vehicle can accommodate four to five riders and comes equipped with premium amenities including a television, lavatory, microwave, and mini-refrigerator—effectively creating a private lounge-on-wheels. "Our objective is to bring this elevated experience to life for our consumers, see how the pilot goes, what the demand is, and other factors," said Mantri. She noted that given the nature of the offering, pricing will be higher than Uber's regular services. The pilot coincides with the onset of India's festive season and a string of long weekends—periods during which rider interest typically spikes. Uber expects strong demand around Diwali, Holi, Eid, and the summer wedding season. With Intercity travel on the rise and premium services being tested, Uber aims to enhance its platform with both scale and variety, catering to budget-conscious travellers and those seeking curated experiences.
