Coolie first review out: Udayanidhi Stalin hypes Rajnikanth's ‘power-packed mass entertainer'

Superstar Rajinikanth's Coolie is all set for a grand release ahead of the Independence Day weekend, and is already set to deliver the biggest opening of the star's career. The action spectacle, directed by Lokesh Kangaraj, is one of the biggest Indian releases of this year, and has been getting some serious hype with the ensemble cast consisting of Aamir Khan, Nagarjuna Akkineni, Soubin Shahir, Upendra, Shruti Haasan, and Sathyaraj in important roles. With a day to go before the film's release, we have the first official review from industry insider and politician Udayanidhi Stalin, who caught a special preview of the film and loved it. The actor took to his Twitter handle to congratulate Rajinikanth and the team Coolie for the film and shared a few words of praise for the film. Uday also added, 'Had the opportunity to get an early glimpse of his much-awaited movie Coolie, releasing tomorrow. I thoroughly enjoyed this power-packed mass entertainer and am sure it will capture the hearts of audiences everywhere. My heartfelt wishes for a roaring success.' This has caught social media by surprise as Uday is not ordinarily someone who praises a film before its release, especially ones he isn't a part of. Coolie is said to be a gangster drama set in the world of gold smuggling and deals with an ex-porter who is forced to take up arms against a smuggling empire. The film features a musical score by Anirudh Ravichandar. Girish Gangadharan handles the cinematography, while editing is by frequent Lokesh collaborator Philomin Raj. Coolie is all set to release on the August 14, and will clash at the box office with the Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR-starrer War 2.

Hard working cadre will be rewarded with tickets to contest in Assembly election, says Udayanidhi Stalin in Theni

Assuring that the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) high command would reward hard working cadre with tickets to contest in the ensuing Assembly election, Deputy CM and youth wing secretary Udayanidhi Stalin appealed to them to work for the victory of the party and its allies with huge margins. Addressing the various party wings office-bearers and senior functionaries in Theni district, he said that the party president M K Stalin is confident of sweeping the 2026 Assembly elections in over 200 out of the 234 constituencies. 'We should get our candidates win with huge margins....' he said. He said that the party would certainly give due weightage to those who have been working tirelessly. With just 10 months more for the general elections, he suggested to the functionaries to organise micro meetings with the electorate, to sensitise them to the fulfilled promises and the benefits received under the Kalaginar Mahalir Urimai Thittam (KMUT), Kalaignar Kanavu Illam and others. There may be fake news making rounds in the social media criticising the government. Nevertheless, the party cadre should take it to the people through 'thinnai pracharam' (door-to-door campaign) and educate them. Such measures could be done without spending any money. 'Please download the apps in your mobile phones to reach out to the masses by explaining about the welfare measures...' Mr Udayanidhi said and urged the cadre to frequently interact with the people. He said that the free bus facility launched for the womenfolk had saved at least ₹900 in each dwelling every month. Likewise, the friendly schemes such as 'Pudumai Penn' and 'Tamizh Pudalvan' et al, had brought in a huge difference in the families and the DMK government had instilled confidence among the downtrodden sector. Children have also utilised the schemes and gained access to higher education campuses with ease. The political opponents may churn stories and create false allegations. 'Never mind about all that. Keep talking to the people directly about the party's promises and achievements. For all the amount of good work done by the party and the Chief Minister and other leaders, even those who did not vote for the DMK and allies in 2021, should cast their votes now in 2026,' he noted. He denied the remarks made by BJP leader and Union Home Minister Amit Shah against the DMK and the Chief Minister. While the BJP indulged in a false campaign, the Union government's reports from Niti Aayog heaped praises about the Tamil Nadu government's performance in very many spheres. He also took a dig at the AIADMK and its leadership for letting down the people of Tamil Nadu for joining hands with the BJP. The only party which can stand strong and tall with the people has been the DMK and it would continue in the next term as well, he added.

Udayanidhi Stalin orders resumption of free buses to Theni ‘uzhavar sandhai' after farmers' plea

Deputy Chief Minister Udayanidhi Stalin directed authorities to resume free transport facility for the farmers to bring their produce from their farms to the uzhavar sandhai in Theni on Monday. Submitting a petition, the farmers from Periyakulam region said that they raised vegetables, fruits and other horticultural goods and brought them to the sandhai in Theni. The government had suspended the free bus facility after the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, the farmers transported their produce through their own personal vehicles or carried them in goods vehicle paying from their pocket. Hence, they urged the Deputy CM to consider their difficulties and redress them. The Deputy CM, who was here to take stock of the development works under way at the Collectorate, held discussions in the presence of Minister I Periasamy, senior IAS officials, including Additional Chief Secretary Pradeep Yadav, Additional Secretary R.V. Shajeevana, Collector Ranjith Singh and other officials. After consultations, he announced that the district administration would resume the free transport facility for the farmers. In the first phase, it was proposed to ply the buses from Periyakulam Panchayat Union limits covering Jayamangalam to Pinnathevanpatti, Chokkathevanpatti and Annanchi to Theni from today (June 16) onwards. From tomorrow (June 17), it was proposed to ply buses to carry the farm goods from Mayiladumparai panchayat union covering Kadamalaigundu to Nagalapuram. In an upbeat mood, the farmers thanked Mr Udayanidhi with folded hands. Expressing relief, a farmer Jafar Sadiq said that the government's swift action today would help many marginal farmers to save their hard earned money. Echoing similar views, Veeralakshmi another farmer said that the buses were plying pre-COVID19 and they were not able to get it resumed since then. 'I am very happy that the Deputy CM has given us such a big relief instantly,' she added. The Deputy CM gave away welfare assistance to 851 beneficiaries worth ₹13.49 crore in the presence of MP Thanga Tamil Selvan, MLAs Cumbum N Ramakrishnan, K.S. Saravana Kumar, A. Maharajan and other rural local body members. Earlier, while addressing the senior officials from various departments at the Theni Collectorate, Mr. Udayanidhi said that in the last four years, under the leadership of CM M.K. Stalin, they had fulfilled numerous promises made to the people. 'We will continue to do that in the next 10 months or so, after which the elections are due to the State,' he said and thanked the officials for playing the role of catalyst between the government and the people. On the occasion, the grievances of a Scheduled Tribe (ST) community from Periyakulam block were redressed and the basic needs were fulfilled. The Deputy CM gave away free pattas and kits to the beneficiaries.

Keralite Ganga to be face of TN's war on waste

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Ganga Dileep C, a 38-year-old architect and urban designer from Kerala, is on a mission to revolutionise solid waste management in Tamil Nadu. She has been appointed as the first CEO of Clean Tamil Nadu Company Ltd which was formed under 'Thooimai Mission' for sustainable waste management in Tamil Nadu. The mission was formed under the vision of Deputy Chief Minister Udayanidhi Stalin. Ganga Dileep, who has spearheaded many innovative initiatives including the successful Toilet Tales, (an initiative that maps public toilets in Thiruvananthapuram) in Pune and other parts of Kerala got this opportunity to work in Chennai from 2022. Since then, a team led by Ganga has been working on various verticals of four slum rehabilitation projects in Chennai. 'I have worked in the constituency of Udayanidhi Stalin and we recovered a canal and helped rehabilitate the slum dwellers. The Clean Tamil Nadu Company will work as a strategic and administrative backbone, providing leadership, policy direction, framing and approving guidelines along with inter-departmental coordination. This is a special and challenging opportunity for me,' said Ganga. Born and brought up in Thiruvananthapuram, Ganga is the founder of Green Army under Thiruvananthapuram City Corporation - a voluntary-based initiative that promotes green protocol. 'The main challenge will be to bring together all the stakeholders, especially the informal sector in sanitation and waste management in Tamil Nadu. There are over 12,000 local self-government institutions in the state and unlike Kerala, the urban-rural divide is evident here. Urban areas like Chennai are densely populated, and compared with other metro cities and rural areas, have better waste management practices,' she said. 'I began my career in Kerala and the experience I gained from here is the foundation. Both the states are different and here the main difference I noticed is that Kerala is more into planning and here they focus on implementation. Both planning and implementation are important for any initiative to succeed,' she added.
