A terrifying moment aboard a Disney Cruise Line ship turned into an unbelievable rescue at sea after a child fell overboard and her father leapt in after her. The father of the child is being labelled as a 'hero' after jumping into the ocean to save his daughter after she fell overboard on a Disney cruise, US media reports. While the Disney Dream was sailing back to Fort Lauderdale, returning from Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point in The Bahamas, the ship's four-night Bahamian cruise turned horrifying. Both individuals were promptly rescued from the water, Disney officials said. The ship was close to Disney's private island Lookout Clay when the incident occurred. After the father jumped in to save the child, the ship's intercom had rung the emergency code 'Mr M.O.B.' — ohhhaykayla (@ohhhaykayla) Overboard incidents on cruise ships, while rare, are often fatal. Disney Cruise Line said the incident highlights the effectiveness of its safety protocols. The child had fallen from the fourth deck and had a safety barrier. The dad had kept the child afloat for about 20 minutes before the rescue team arrived in the lifeboat according to the Daily Mail. Live Events In a statement to the USA Today, the Disney cruise line said "The Crew aboard the Disney Dream swiftly rescued two guests from the water." "We commend our Crew Members for their exceptional skills and prompt actions, which ensured the safe return of both guests to the ship within minutes. We are committed to the safety and well-being of our guests, and this incident highlights the effectiveness of our safety protocols,' a Disney Cruise Line spokesperson said in the statement. 'Her dad went in after her,' passenger Kevin Furuta wrote. 'Right after the incident, we heard on the loudspeaker, 'MOB [Man overboard] Port side!! Thankfully, the DCL rescue team was on it immediately and both were saved!' 'A little girl fell overboard and her father jumped in to save her … apparently the dad sat her on the railing!' passenger Mary Ann Sutherland added in a separate post on Facebook. In video footage posted on Facebook by passenger Janice Martin-Asuque who witnessed the incident, a lifeboat can be seen floating in the choppy waters with people sitting inside. 'We are committed to the safety and well-being of our guests, and this incident highlights the effectiveness of our safety protocols,' Disney Cruise Line added in their statement to USA Today. Some passengers also confirmed that the ship was not docked while the incident happened. User metzd87 on Reddit explained in the DCL community, 'Not docked! Halfway between Bahamas and Ft. Lauderdale! Fully moving! Heard in our rooms 'Mr. M.O.B port side.''
