Freddie Flintoff leaves son Rocky, 17, OUT of England Lions team for India test
FREDDIE FLINTOFF has left his son Rocky out of the England Lions team against India. Lions head coach Flintoff benched the 17-year-old batter for the test match against India's feeder team on Friday. Rocky has been suffering with injuries in recent months, but the reason for his snub is unclear. The Lions face India A as part of a four-day test at the Spitfire Ground in Canterbury, with the Asian side currently 50-2 in the first innings. The talented batter missed the first part of the County Championship season because of a back injury. Rocky, who turned 17 last month, earned his third call up to England's Lions feeder team last week. Like his dad, Rocky came through the ranks with Lancashire County, signing his first professional deal in June 2024. A right-handed batsman and right arm fast-medium bowler, he is the youngest player to appear for Lancashire, at 16 years and 113 days. He is also the youngest to score a match-winning century for the England Under-19s team. The teenager was first called up for the Lions against South Africa A in December, before being recalled to face Australia XI a month later. On the Aussie tour, he broke his dad Freddie's record as the youngest player to score a Lions century after hitting 126 in Brisbane. Flintoff Snr began helping the England in 2023 following his near-fatal car accident while filming for Top Gear. I thought my face had been ripped off after it was dragged 150ft along Tarmac in Top Gear crash, says Freddie Flintoff The full extent of the retired all-rounder's injuries were laid bare in a new Disney+ documentary last month. The star, 47, was dragged nose down for 50 metres in the 2022 horror accident in Dunsfold, Surrey. He said: 'I was frightened to death. I thought I was dead. I was conscious but I couldn't see anything. I was thinking, 'Is that it?' 'But I had my hat come over my eyes! So I pulled my hat up and I thought, 'I'm on the Top Gear track — this isn't heaven!'' Meanwhile, first team star Chris Woakes will make his return from an ankle injury after being selected for two Lions fixtures with India A. The 36-year-old has not played since January, but has been named in a 15-man squad for the second-string fixtures, starting on 30 May and 6 June. 3

James Rew gets England call-up following Jordan Cox injury
Somerset batter James Rew has been called up to the England squad for this month's one-off Test against Zimbabwe at Trent Bridge. The uncapped 21-year-old, who this week became the youngest Englishman since Denis Compton in 1939 to reach 10 first-class centuries, replaces the injured Jordan Cox, the England and Wales Cricket Board has announced. Cox suffered a side strain last weekend whilst in the process of scoring a century in Essex's Rothesay County Championship loss to Rew's Somerset. It is a first senior call-up for wicketkeeper Rew, a left-hander who has enjoyed an outstanding start to the season with the bat. He is currently averaging 54.21 and has scored two centuries, including a match-winning 116 against Essex. He has previously played for England Under-19s and toured Australia with the Lions last winter. It is the second time Cox has been denied a potential England debut by injury having also been forced to pull out of the squad to face New Zealand last year with a broken thumb. England face Zimbabwe at Trent Bridge from May 22.
