Sea of youth volunteers turn up 7 hours early in Chandigarh, pledge to serve the nation in Civil Defence drive
In a remarkable show of patriotism and civic responsibility, thousands of young volunteers in Chandigarh turned up nearly seven hours before the scheduled reporting time for the Civil Defence Volunteer training program organised by the Union Territory Administration. The event, initially slated to begin at 12:15 PM on Saturday at Tagore Theatre, witnessed such a massive turnout that authorities had to shift a large number of participants to Tiranga Ground in Sector 17 to accommodate the overflow.
Despite the intense summer heat and no formal duty assignments, the youth remained energetic and enthusiastic throughout the day. Loud chants of 'Vande Mataram' and 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai' filled the air as volunteers responded with thunderous 'High, Sir!' when asked, 'How's the Josh?' by officials.

The training session focused on basic emergency preparedness, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), first-aid techniques, how to evacuate injured persons, and basic fire safety measures. This initiative is part of a broader civil defence effort to equip citizens, especially youth, with life-saving skills amid growing border and internal security tensions.
Many of the participants expressed a deep desire to contribute meaningfully to the nation's safety.
Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria, who visited Tiranga Ground to witness the energy firsthand, praised the youth's commitment. 'This overwhelming participation is proof that India's youth is ready—not just in words, but in spirit and action—to serve the country when called upon,' he said.
The event has become a symbol of national unity and a reminder that in times of uncertainty, India's young citizens are prepared to rise to the occasion—long before they're even asked.
