Bahrain promotes ‘peaceful coexistence and dialogue'
The Kingdom of Bahrain is firmly committed to promoting global peace, dialogue, and coexistence. This was reaffirmed by His Excellency Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the National Human Rights Committee, as the Kingdom joins the word community in marking the International Day for Dialogue among Civilizations. Dr. Al Zayani praised the visionary leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, for their continued efforts in positioning Bahrain as a leading model for tolerance and cultural harmony. The Foreign Minister emphasised that Bahrain's foreign policy is deeply rooted in the values of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and dialogue among cultures and civilisations — principles that reflect the Kingdom's human and cultural heritage and are fundamental to achieving peace, justice, and the protection of human rights. He highlighted the Kingdom's active role within the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations and its balanced diplomacy, which advocates resolving conflicts through dialogue, rejecting extremism, and supporting initiatives that contribute to international stability, justice, and sustainable development. Dr. Al Zayani also commended key national initiatives aligned with these principles, including the launch of the 'Kingdom of Bahrain Declaration' on Freedom of Religion and Belief, and the work of the King Hamad Global Centre for Peaceful Coexistence, which provides educational and cultural programs to empower youth as ambassadors of peace.

International Day for Dialogue among Civilizations : Answer Hate with Humanity, Choose Discussion over Division
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres' message for the International Day for Dialogue among Civilizations, observed on 10 June: The United Nations was built on a fundamental conviction: dialogue is the path to peace. On this First International Day for Dialogue among Civilizations , we celebrate that conviction - and the rich diversity of civilizations as a force to promote mutual understanding and global solidarity. Today, that mission is more urgent than ever. Where dialogue is missing, ignorance fills the void. Around the world, we hear rising voices of intolerance and xenophobia, amplified by online misinformation and hate speech. In our fractured world, dialogue is not optional - it is essential for building bridges of understanding and trust. So, too, is the work of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations, re-enforced by the global platform for dialogue that it has created over the past two decades. This International Day is a call to action - to listen, to speak, to connect. Let's answer hate with humanity. Let's listen with open hearts and open minds. Let's choose dialogue over division. And let us strive to be one human family, rich in diversity, united in solidarity, and equal in dignity and human rights. What is a civilisation ? The notion of "civilization" is not easy to define and can be subject to misinterpretation. However, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) regards it as a universal, pluralistic, and non-hierarchical reality, recognizing that civilizations are inherently shaped by intercultural dynamics while retaining their unique identities. International Day for Dialogue among Civilizations On 7 June 2024 the General Assembly adopted a resolution declaring 10 June the International Day for Dialogue among Civilizations . Proposed by China and co-sponsored by over 80 countries, the resolution emphasizes that all civilizational achievements constitute "the collective heritage of humankind." It underscores the importance of respecting civilizational diversity and highlights "the crucial role of dialogue" in maintaining global peace, advancing shared development, enhancing human well-being, and achieving collective progress. The resolution acknowledges the essential role of dialogue in fostering awareness and understanding of universal values, as outlined in the UN Charter and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, reaffirming that civilizational achievements are part of humanity's shared heritage. UN special envoy to combat Islamophobia: Pakistan greets appointment of Miguel Ángel Moratinos
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan warmly welcomed the appointment of the High Representative of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC), Miguel Ángel Moratinos, as the United Nations Special Envoy to Combat Islamophobia, pursuant to General Assembly Resolution 78/264, entitled, 'Measures to Combat Islamophobia.' This historic appointment marks a major milestone in the United Nations' efforts to combat the alarming rise in Islamophobia, hatred, intolerance, and discrimination against Muslims worldwide. Pakistan takes pride in having initiated, led, and successfully steered, on behalf of the OIC, the adoption of General Assembly Resolution 78/264, which established the mandate for the Secretary-General to appoint a Special Envoy to Combat Islamophobia. This builds on Pakistan's earlier leadership in the adoption of General Assembly Resolution 76/ 254, which proclaimed 15 March as the International Day to Combat Islamophobia. The appointment of the Special Envoy is timely and essential, as Islamophobia continues to escalate to deeply alarming levels around the world. Pakistan observes with grave concern the organised campaigns of vilification against Muslims, attacks on mosques, assaults on Muslim communities, and unprovoked aggressions against Muslim-majority countries — often perpetrated by those who hypocritically claim to uphold democratic and secular values. Such systematic and deliberate acts, driven by supremacist ideologies and populist rhetoric, endanger international peace and security, and gravely undermine the foundational principles of the United Nations Charter. There is an urgent need for enhanced and coordinated global action to promote respect for religious and cultural diversity, foster mutual understanding, and uphold the dignity, rights, and freedoms of all peoples. Pakistan remains firmly committed to continuing its leadership role in the global fight against Islamophobia, promoting interfaith harmony, and advocating for the protection of all religious communities. Pakistan also eagerly anticipates the Secretary-General's forthcoming comprehensive Action Plan to Combat Islamophobia, which will provide a much-needed strategic framework to guide international efforts against this rising menace. Pakistan looks forward to working closely with the Special Envoy in fulfilling his important mandate and supporting efforts to advance a world anchored in tolerance, coexistence, and justice.
