Tharoor: Nation comes before party

Kochi: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said he did not say anything against the Gandhi family in his article on the Emergency. He mentioned that the incidents and individuals in the article were already included in his book written earlier. Those criticising him over the article now are the ones who have not read his book. He conveyed this to the media in Kochi on the sidelines of a discourse, 'Peace, Unity and National Development,' organized by council for community cooperation on Saturday. During the discussion, he reiterated that the nation comes before the party for him. Amid mounting criticism, both overt and covert, from the Congress for his camaraderie with the BJP, Tharoor stated that collaboration with other parties is necessary for national security. In a veiled reply to questions about his loyalty to Congress, he said that sometimes collaboration with other parties for national security might be misinterpreted as a lack of loyalty to one's own party, leading to criticism. The Thiruvananthapuram MP said that he believed he did the right thing for the country, mentioning the criticism he faced for backing the Union govt recently in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack and the subsequent delegation of MPs he led to the US and other countries to explain India's position. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Providers are furious: Internet access without a subscription! "When I speak of India, I speak for all Indians, not just those who may like my party. I believe that same thing should apply to all other parties too. I am saying this to all parties 'put your differences aside when the nation is imperilled'," he said.

Not said anything against the Gandhi family, says Shashi Tharoor on Emergency article

Congress MP, Shashi Tharoor said here on Saturday that he has not said anything against the Gandhi family in his controversial article on the Emergency. 'I have mentioned about some individuals and incidents that happened at that time in the article', he told media persons on the sidelines of a meeting on 'Peace, Unity and National Development' organised by the Council for Community Co-operation here. 'You can read it to understand it. There is nothing new in the article', he said. On the survey that projected him as the best suited to become the Chief Minister of Kerala, which he had shared on the social media platform 'X' recently, Mr. Tharoor said that it was not done by him. 'I had only shared it', he said. In his speech at the meeting, Mr. Tharoor said that nation comes first to his mind. Parties are a means to make the nation better. 'Whichever party you belong to, the objective of that party is to create a better India in its own way. Now, parties have every right to disagree about the best way of doing that,' he said. He said that lot of people were critical of him because of the stance that he had taken supporting the Armed forces and the Union government on what happened recently in our borders. 'But I will stand my ground because it is the right thing for the country,' he said.
