Not said anything against the Gandhi family, says Shashi Tharoor on Emergency article
'I have mentioned about some individuals and incidents that happened at that time in the article', he told media persons on the sidelines of a meeting on 'Peace, Unity and National Development' organised by the Council for Community Co-operation here. 'You can read it to understand it. There is nothing new in the article', he said.
On the survey that projected him as the best suited to become the Chief Minister of Kerala, which he had shared on the social media platform 'X' recently, Mr. Tharoor said that it was not done by him. 'I had only shared it', he said.
In his speech at the meeting, Mr. Tharoor said that nation comes first to his mind. Parties are a means to make the nation better. 'Whichever party you belong to, the objective of that party is to create a better India in its own way. Now, parties have every right to disagree about the best way of doing that,' he said.
He said that lot of people were critical of him because of the stance that he had taken supporting the Armed forces and the Union government on what happened recently in our borders. 'But I will stand my ground because it is the right thing for the country,' he said.

Narendra Modi Breaks Indira Gandhi's Record, Becomes India's Second-Longest Serving PM
With 4,078 consecutive days in office, Narendra Modi now stands behind only Jawaharlal Nehru in terms of tenure as Prime Minister A day after signing the landmark India–UK Free Trade Agreement in London, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday made history once again by becoming the second-longest consecutively serving Prime Minister in India's history, surpassing Indira Gandhi's uninterrupted tenure of 4,077 days. While Jawaharlal Nehru, the country's first Prime Minister, remains India's longest-serving PM with a total of 6,130 days in office, Modi's achievement is nonetheless significant. With 4,078 days in office, Modi has reached a major milestone in a political career spanning nearly a quarter of a century — 24 years at the helm of democratically elected governments at both state and national levels. WHAT MAKES MODI'S PREMIERSHIP SPECIAL? First PM born post-Independence: Modi is the only Prime Minister born after 1947 to assume the nation's highest executive role. Longest-serving non-Congress PM: He has held office longer than any other Prime Minister from outside the Congress party. Majority on his own: He remains the only non-Congress leader to have secured an outright majority in the Lok Sabha. Echoes of Nehru and Indira: Modi is the first PM since Indira Gandhi in 1971 to win re-election with a majority and joins Jawaharlal Nehru as the only leader to lead his party to three successive general election victories. Consistent political leadership: Over the course of his political journey, Modi has led his party to six straight electoral victories — three in Gujarat (2002, 2007, 2012) and three at the national level (2014, 2019, 2024). In 2014, the BJP swept to power at the Centre with a brute majority, securing 272 seats, with Narendra Modi as its prime ministerial face. Five years later, the party bettered its performance, winning 303 out of 543 Lok Sabha seats. Although the BJP fell short of the halfway mark in 2024, it emerged as the single largest party and returned to power for a third consecutive term with the support of its NDA allies. Today marks a red-letter day in Narendra Modi's legacy, one on which he is likely to build his personal brand of politics further. Many would argue that Modi may be redefining the benchmarks of political longevity in the country, with his sights set on one day surpassing Nehru's 6,130 days in office. view comments First Published: July 25, 2025, 07:43 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Epstein case: 'Ex-girlfriend' Ghislaine Maxwell interviewd by DOJ deputy; 'answered all the questions truthfully, honestly, says her lawyer
US deputy attorney general Todd Blanche held a meeting with convicted sex offender Ghislaine Maxwell and her lawyer in Tallahassee, as pressure mounts on the justice department to disclose more about its handling of the Jeffrey Epstein case. The meeting lasted several hours, with Blanche posing extensive questions and Maxwell responding to each of them, according to her lawyer David Oscar Markus. 'Productive day today with the Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche and Ghislaine Maxwell,' he said, as quoted by CNN. 'She never invoked a privilege. She never declined to answer. She answered all the questions truthfully, honestly and to the best of her ability,' Markus added, though he declined to reveal the content of the conversation. Blanche later confirmed he would return tomorrow to continue the interview. 'The Department of Justice will share additional information about what we learned at the appropriate time,' he posted on X. The meeting comes just weeks before Maxwell is due to testify before the US Congress under subpoena. The House Oversight Committee has ordered her to appear on 11 August, calling her testimony 'crucial' to understanding the federal government's failings in the Epstein case, including controversial plea deals and prosecution gaps. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Maxwell, a British socialite and former girlfriend of Epstein, is serving a 20-year sentence after being convicted in 2022 for grooming and trafficking underage girls in partnership with the disgraced financier. She has since filed an appeal. Blanche had earlier acknowledged that Maxwell was never before approached by federal investigators willing to hear her out. 'That changes now,' he said, signalling a shift in the justice department's posture under President Donald Trump's directive to release all 'credible evidence' related to Epstein's crimes. Her lawyer also said that past prosecutors had avoided direct talks and welcomed the administration's new approach. 'The truth should not be feared or ignored,' Markus said. 'We're grateful someone is finally listening.' Maxwell's possible testimony before Congress could mark a turning point in the saga, depending on whether she decides to fully cooperate. 'She's taking this one step at a time,' Markus said. 'If she chooses to testify before Congress, and not plead the Fifth, she will speak the truth—as she always said she would,' he added The renewed attention to Maxwell's case comes amid mounting scrutiny over the handling of Epstein-related investigations and growing calls for transparency. A federal judge in Florida last week refused to unseal grand jury records from the early 2000s, rejecting a request by the Trump administration to make them public. Meanwhile, political tensions continue to rise following a Wall Street Journal report highlighting past links between Trump and Epstein. The US president filed a defamation lawsuit against Rupert Murdoch and the newspaper.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader is also the longest-serving PM from a non-Congress party. On July 25, PM Modi will complete 4,078 days in office in three straight terms. 'On this day, he (Modi) will become the second longest consecutive serving PM of India, surpassing Indira Gandhi, who was the PM consecutively for 4,077 days, from January 24, 1966 till March 24, 1977,' a person aware of the matter said. Indira Gandhi had also served as the PM from January 14, 1980 until her assassination on October 31, 1984. Her father Jawaharlal Nehru remains the longest-serving PM of India, having been in the office for 16 years and 286 days from August 15, 1947 till May 27, 1964. Before becoming the PM, Modi was the longest-serving chief minister of Gujarat, having been in office from 2001 to 2014. 'He is the first and only non-Congress PM to complete at least two full terms as Prime Minister and to get re-elected thrice…He is also the first and only non-Congress leader to secure a majority on his own in a Lok Sabha election,' the person quoted above said. In 2014, the BJP stormed to power at the Centre with a brute majority of 272 seats, with Modi as the party's PM face. Five years later, the party improved its tally, winning 303 of the 543 Lok Sabha seats. Although the BJP fell short of reaching the half-way mark in 2024, it emerged as the single largest party and formed the government for a third straight term with support of its NDA partners. 'He is the first sitting Prime Minister since Indira Gandhi (in 1971) to get re-elected with a majority and the only Prime Minister, apart from Jawaharlal Nehru, to win three consecutive elections as leader of a party,' the person added.
