672 students get seats in Ranchi pvt schools under RTE

Ranchi: The Ranchi district administration, led by Ranchi (Sadar) sub-divisional officer (SDO) Utkarsh Kumar, on Wednesday conducted an online lottery draw to admit 672 students in recognised private schools under the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act, 2009. The RTE Act mandates that 25% of seats at the entry level in recognised private schools should be reserved for children belonging to the economically weaker sections (EWS) and disadvantaged groups. A total of 1,744 applications were received from parents seeking admission for their children against 1,217 seats in 121 private schools under the RTE quota. Out of the total applications received, 342 were rejected for discrepancies and 312 were found to be duplicates in an investigation, which led to the postponement of the earlier scheduled May 15 lottery draw date. Out of the total 1,057 candidates found eligible for the lottery draw, 672 were allotted seats in 92 schools, which the guardians and parents had opted for during the application process. The names of selected students have been uploaded on the school portal and the enrolment process is to be completed within 10 days. Ranchi district superintendent of education (DSE) Badal Raj said, "The lottery draw was held to ensure fair and equitable access to quality education for children from economically weaker backgrounds. We conducted a detailed re-verification of the applications received to maintain the integrity of the process."

Anti-encroachment drive at Hinoo river

1 2 Ranchi: Once a lifeline flowing through Ranchi, the Hinoo river had, over the years, turned into little more than a drain, choked by waste and nearly 90% encroached. Today, however, it is witnessing a dramatic transformation. Following sustained orders from the Jharkhand high court , an extensive anti-encroachment drive is underway to restore the river to its original state. Since March, authorities have been deploying earth movers to clear illegal structures built along the river's path, from makeshift shanties to concrete houses. The drive is being jointly executed by the district administration and the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC), with a clear mandate of reclaiming the riverbed and ensuring no structure obstructs its natural flow. The drive comes in response to a suo motu public interest litigation taken up by the HC, which had expressed serious concern over the rampant encroachment on rivers and other water bodies in Ranchi. According to officials, the Hinoo river is significantly shrinking its catchment area and flow capacity. "The high court's order came in August last year. We took immediate cognizance and served notices thrice to the encroachers. The drive is part of a larger mission to make all riverbeds and reservoirs in the city encroachment-free. The Hinoo river, which ultimately joins the Subarnarekha at Namkum, had almost disappeared. This is a step toward environmental revival ," said Ranchi SDM Utkarsh Kumar said on Tuesday. He also confirmed that demolitions near the river are being carried out under the framework of the Jharkhand Public Land Encroachment Act 2016 (JPLE Act), which empowers the administration to remove unauthorised constructions on public land. "Encroachments falling within the JPLE ambit are being lawfully removed," Kumar added. The operation is focused on the Bhusur stretch of the river. A demarcation exercise was completed earlier this year, laying the groundwork for removal efforts. Argora circle officer Suman Sourav said, "In 2014, there were 101 encroachers. By 2024, this had increased to 145. All are now being removed based on the high court's directions." Ambuj Singh, city manager at RMC, said, "We are actively supporting the drive to ensure coordination and proper implementation."

Tribal groups protest after flyover ramp construction resumes under tight security

Ranchi: Tension mounted in Siromtoli on Friday after Ranchi district administration deployed security personnel to resume the construction of the Siromtoli flyover's ramp. Tribal communities had protested the construction of the ramp and claimed that it impeded their religious site, the Sarna Sthal . The construction was halted before Sarhul festivities last month. The situation escalated on Thursday night after construction materials were dumped on the site. Reacting swiftly, tribal communities descended to the streets in protest. Babloo Munda, president of Kendriya Sarna Samiti , said, "The National Scheduled Tribe Commission had ordered an investigation following our April 4 complaint and directed chief secretary, urban development department's secretary, Ranchi deputy commissioner and the administrator of Ranchi Municipal Corporation to submit a report within five days. Despite this, construction was resumed and access to our religious site was restricted." Authorities had previously demolished a section of the under-construction flyover before the Sarhul festival in March, but tribal groups are demanding permanent removal of the ramp. Tribal outfits also enforced a bandh in the city to mark their protest. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 2025 Top Trending local enterprise accounting software [Click Here] Esseps Learn More Undo Ranchi Sadar subdivisional officer Utkarsh Kumar said security deployment was purely precautionary.
