75th anniversary of National Sample Survey celebrated in Krishnankoil
National Statistics Office (NSO) Sub-Regional Office at Virudhunagar installed a bilingual standee at Krishnankoil Bus Stop on Wednesday to commemorate the 75th anniversary of National Sample Survey. The standee was inaugurated by Deputy Director, Directorate of Economics and Statistics (DES), G. Sundari in the presence of Assistant Director of NSO, Virudhunagar, V. Rethinam, and Assistant Director of Agriculture G. Dhanalakshmi. Besides the staff of NSO, students and members of the general public also took part in the event. The standee would display 17 sustainable development goals formulated by the United Nations. The theme for the 75th anniversary celebration is 'From the Glorious Past to the Promising Future of Viksit Bharat.' The Assistant Director sought cooperation from the local officials and members of general public for the smooth conduct of NSS surveys.

Rally taken out in Rameswaram to mark 75th anniversary of National Sample Survey
The National Statistics Office (NSO) sub regional office – Virudhunagar conducted a public rally at Rameswaram on Tuesday. The aim of the rally which was taken out to mark the 75th anniversary of the National Sample Survey (NSS) was to raise awareness among public of the ill-effects of drug abuse and to highlight the achievements of NSS and its role in evidence-based policy making. While the rally was led by V. Rethinam, Assistant Director, NSO-Virudhunagar, Fire and Rescue Services officer R. Appash flagged off the rally. Mr. Rethinam spoke about the role of NSS, and several works carried out by it and its importance in the development of the nation. 'Socio-economic survey, urban frame survey, annual survey of unincorporated enterprises, consumer price and wholesale price surveys, periodic labour force survey, annual survey of industries, agricultural surveys, etc., are some of the surveys conducted by the NSS,' he added. The surveys conducted would provide valuable data required for planning, policy formulation and understanding of the country's economic and social landscape, Mr. Rethinam said. 'It also plays a crucial role in generating data for various sectors, including social statistics, economic statistics, demographic statistics, industrial statistics, and agricultural statistics,' he said. He urged the public and officials for better cooperation for the smooth conduct of surveys which were essential for each and every government programme and scheme. Madurai In Madurai, NSS officials conducted a village community discussion at Boothakudi. Regional Office Director Vishnuraj, Block Development Officer Porselvi and Village Administrative Officer Balamurugan and other officials from various departments addressed the gathering.
