Udinese 1-0 Parma: Thauvin keeps Friulani flag flying

Udinese continue to climb the Serie A table with penalties, this time converted without drama by Florian Thauvin, for the first defeat of Cristian Chivu's Parma tenure. The Ducali had the ideal debut for new coach Chivu with a 2-0 victory over Bologna, but were still missing Milan Djuric, Adrian Bernabé, Valentin Mihaila, Hernani, Gabriel Charpentier, Yordan Osorio, Mateusz Kowalski, Alessandro Circati and Adrian Benedyczak. The Friulani were on a great run of 10 points from four games, but after Isaak Touré and Maduka Okoye, they also lost second-choice goalkeeper Razvan Sava to injury. See how it all unfolded on the Liveblog. Arthur Atta saw two early attempts parried by Zion Suzuki, and the goalkeeper also punched a Florian Thauvin free kick away. Thauvin saw his curler deflected off Botond Balogh's elbow during a clumsy fall and a penalty was awarded following the VAR On-Field Review. Unlike the drama of their 1-0 win over Lecce when Lorenzo Lucca infuriated his teammates and coach by insisting on stepping up, there was no debate with Thauvin converting off the inside of the left boot. Parma came out fighting for the restart, within 60 seconds Dennis Man sprung the offside trap and forced a difficult Daniele Padelli save at the near post. Balogh made an important block on Thauvin and from the resulting corner Kingsley Ehizibue volleyed wide from the edge of the area. Atta was forced off after suffering a sprain just as he was about to pull the trigger on a Thauvin assist, while Thauvin tested Suzuki again from distance. It really should've been 2-0 on 70 minutes when Oier Zarraga's cross was deflected into the path of Thauvin, but despite having time to control and line up the shoot, he somehow fired wide from nine yards. When Thauvin did curl a wonderful left-foot finish into the far top corner from the edge of the area on 78 minutes, it didn't count because Lucca was offside on the assist. Parma also threatened with Pontus Almqvist springing the offside trap and going around Padelli to deposit into an empty net, until Oumar Solet got back for the decisive goal-line clearance. Udinese's third-choice goalkeeper Padelli made two saves in 30 seconds on the Mateo Pellegrino strike from the edge of the box and then his header on the resulting corner. Video: Ex-Lecce star Dorgu has nightmare for Manchester United

Former Lecce starlet Patrick Dorgu is having a rough start to life at Manchester United, as this evening he gifted a goal to Ipswich Town and was then sent off. The wing-back shot to fame at the Stadio Via del Mare and earned a lucrative January transfer to Old Trafford at a cost of €30m plus another €5m in add-ons. This was his fourth appearance for Manchester United, starting in tonight's Premier League fixture against minnows Ipswich Town. It was the worst possible start, as within four minutes his back-pass surprised former Inter goalkeeper Andre Onana, allowing Jaden Philogene-Bidace to pounce and walk it into the empty net. Ipswich take the lead at Old Trafford after just FOUR minutes 🤯 A miscommunication between Patrick Dorgu and Andre Onana leaves Jaden Philogene-Bidace with a tap-in 😬 📺 @tntsports & @discoveryplusUK — Football on TNT Sports (@footballontnt) February 26, 2025 Just as Manchester United had turned it around to lead 2-1, Dorgu was sent off following the VAR On-Field Review for the high and late sliding tackle on Omari Hutchinson. This was his second red card of the season, as Dorgu was also sent off for violent conduct in Lecce's 1-0 Serie A win over Cagliari on August 31. Marianucci given two-match ban for reaction foul on Gimenez

Empoli defender Luca Marianucci was given a two-match ban for his reaction foul on Milan striker Santiago Gimenez, while Fikayo Tomori and Moise Kean are among the players suspended. The Lega Serie A announced the disciplinary action taken following the completion of the Week 24 fixtures. Marianucci saw red during Milan's victory away to Empoli after a VAR On-Field Review showed him intentionally kick Gimenez in the crotch with his trailing foot. That gesture has now also earned him a two-match Serie A ban. Tomori was sent off for two bookable offences in that same encounter and is therefore given a standard one-match ban. The same goes for players who amassed enough yellow cards to activate suspension, namely Bryan Cristante (Roma), Daniele Ghilardi (Verona), Moise Kean (Fiorentina) and Samuele Ricci (Torino). Torino assistant manager Lino Filipe Neves Godinho was sent off from the touchline during the 1-1 draw with Genoa and received a one-match ban.
