Udinese 1-0 Parma: Thauvin keeps Friulani flag flying
Udinese continue to climb the Serie A table with penalties, this time converted without drama by Florian Thauvin, for the first defeat of Cristian Chivu's Parma tenure.
The Ducali had the ideal debut for new coach Chivu with a 2-0 victory over Bologna, but were still missing Milan Djuric, Adrian Bernabé, Valentin Mihaila, Hernani, Gabriel Charpentier, Yordan Osorio, Mateusz Kowalski, Alessandro Circati and Adrian Benedyczak. The Friulani were on a great run of 10 points from four games, but after Isaak Touré and Maduka Okoye, they also lost second-choice goalkeeper Razvan Sava to injury.
See how it all unfolded on the Liveblog.
Arthur Atta saw two early attempts parried by Zion Suzuki, and the goalkeeper also punched a Florian Thauvin free kick away.
Thauvin saw his curler deflected off Botond Balogh's elbow during a clumsy fall and a penalty was awarded following the VAR On-Field Review. Unlike the drama of their 1-0 win over Lecce when Lorenzo Lucca infuriated his teammates and coach by insisting on stepping up, there was no debate with Thauvin converting off the inside of the left boot.
Parma came out fighting for the restart, within 60 seconds Dennis Man sprung the offside trap and forced a difficult Daniele Padelli save at the near post.
Balogh made an important block on Thauvin and from the resulting corner Kingsley Ehizibue volleyed wide from the edge of the area.
Atta was forced off after suffering a sprain just as he was about to pull the trigger on a Thauvin assist, while Thauvin tested Suzuki again from distance.
It really should've been 2-0 on 70 minutes when Oier Zarraga's cross was deflected into the path of Thauvin, but despite having time to control and line up the shoot, he somehow fired wide from nine yards.
When Thauvin did curl a wonderful left-foot finish into the far top corner from the edge of the area on 78 minutes, it didn't count because Lucca was offside on the assist.
Parma also threatened with Pontus Almqvist springing the offside trap and going around Padelli to deposit into an empty net, until Oumar Solet got back for the decisive goal-line clearance.
Udinese's third-choice goalkeeper Padelli made two saves in 30 seconds on the Mateo Pellegrino strike from the edge of the box and then his header on the resulting corner.

Wolves want to sign Barcelona star favoured by Hansi Flick
Barcelona will need to sell players this summer in order to be able to afford their targets, and a new name has emerged as a candidate to be moved on during the transfer window. The likes of Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, Ronald Araujo and Pablo Torre have been mentioned as players that could leave during the summer transfer window. Alex Valle has already departed, while a deal for Ansu Fati to join AS Monaco on loan is believed to be at an advanced stage. Wolves set sights on Barcelona defender Gerard Martin And another La Masia graduate that could be on the move this summer is Gerard Martin. The 23-year-old, who is a favourite of Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick after acting as backup to Alejandro Balde last season, is attracting interest from Premier League side Wolves, as reported by Matteo Moretto. Advertisement Wolves are set to lose starting left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri to fellow Premier League side Manchester City, and they have started their search for a replacement. And it appears that Martin is on their list of candidates to be considered for a summer signing. Image via Gerard Martin As things stand, Martin will continue as Barcelona's deputy left-back for next season, having gained Flick's trust. But given that he is not a regular starter, it is likely that the club would consider a sale, depending on the offer presented by Wolves – should they make a move in the coming weeks. It is unclear at this stage what Barcelona would value Martin at, but given his squad status, it should be more than the €6m they received this week from the sale of fellow left-back Valle to Serie A side Como. For now, it remains to be seen whether Wolves make a concrete attempt to sign the young defender during the summer.

Inter Milan Will Only Move For PSG Star If He's Available On Free Transfer Next Summer
Inter Milan Will Only Move For PSG Star If He's Available On Free Transfer Next Summer Inter Milan will only make a move for PSG keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma if it is on a free transfer next summer. This according to today's print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. Advertisement The future of Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma is still uncertain. The 26-year-old's contract with PSG runs out at the end of next June. He is still on the same five-year deal that he signed when he joined the club on a free transfer from AC Milan in the summer of 2021. As of yet, it is far from clear whether Donnarumma and PSG will agree a new deal. Inter Milan Will Only Move For Gianluigi Donnarumma On A Free Transfer BUDAPEST, HUNGARY – SEPTEMBER 09: Gianlugi Donnarumma of Italy celebrates the win at the end of the UEFA Nations League 2024/25 League A Group A2 match between Israel and Italy at Bozsik Stadion on September 09, 2024 in Budapest, Hungary. (Photo by) Should Donnarumma not extend his contract, then he could be available on a free transfer next summer. He could leave his club at the end of his contract for the second time in his career. Advertisement And in that case, Inter Milan would certainly be interested. The Nerazzurri's penchant for big free transfer signings is no secret. And such deals don't come much bigger than Gianluigi Donnarumma. Therefore, Inter are paying close attention to the Italy captain's situation in the French capital. However, on the other hand, Paris Saint-Germain could even look to sell Donnarumma this summer. If the 26-year-old doesn't sign a new deal, then this would be their last big chance to cash in. According to the Gazzetta, however, Inter would not move for Donnarumma in that case. They would only be interested in signing the former Milan keeper on a free transfer in twelve months' time.
