SPMVV's startup ‘Saanvika' aims to blend cultural heritage with entrepreneurship
Tirupati: Blending heritage with innovation, faculty from Sri Padmavati Mahila Visvavidyalayam's Departments of Biosciences & Sericulture, Home Science, and Women's Studies have launched Saanvika Divine Silks and Crafts Pvt. Ltd., a startup dedicated to preserving traditional Indian art forms while promoting creative entrepreneurship. The venture, along with an exhibition of its products, was inaugurated by Vice-Chancellor Prof V Uma on Monday. Speaking on the occasion, Prof Uma said such innovative ventures would inspire students to explore self-employment opportunities whilepromoting the preservation of art and tradition. 'These products are not only aesthetically appealing but also eco-friendly, making them memorable gifts for loved ones and guests,' she noted. She congratulated the founders and stressed the importance of supporting handloom products, assuring that the university would extend full cooperation to help the startup grow. The startup's directors, Prof P Sujatha, Prof G Savitri, Prof N Rajani, Prof N Vijaya Kumari, and Dr P Neeraja described Saanvika as a unique blend of tradition and modernity. They highlighted that the venture is not profit-driven but is dedicated to breathing new life into Indian traditional arts. Their aim, they said, is to offer innovative, budget-friendly, and customised products that earn customers' trust and satisfaction. Detailing the product line, the founders said Saanvika will feature pure silk and Kalamkari fabrics sourced from across India, Kalamkari-themed photo frames, silk cocoon and silk-thread flower vases, and bouquets, all designed by women entrepreneurs. The collection is tailored for all kinds of events, offering arare combination of artistry and cultural heritage. The products, set to be available both offline and online, will focus on affordability, durability, quality, and uniqueness, appealing to a wide range of customers across the country.

Handloom fabrics are a symbol of rich tradition: SPMVV V-C
Tirupati: Commemoratingthe National Handloom Day to be observed on August 7, the Andhra Pradesh State Handloom Weavers' Cooperative Society Limited (APCO) launched its Mega Exhibition Discount Sales at Sri Padmavati Mahila Visvavidyalayam (SPMVV). The exhibition was inaugurated by the Vice-Chancellor of the university Prof V Uma. Speaking on the occasion, Prof Uma underlined the importance of promoting handloom products as a tribute to India's cultural heritage. 'Handloom fabrics are a symbol of our rich tradition. We are organising this exhibition at SPMVV to support and encourage handloom weavers ahead of National Handloom Day,' she stated. The V-C appealed to the university's teaching and non-teaching staff, as well as students, to visit the exhibition and support the artisans by purchasing handloom garments. She also announced that a Handloom Power Walk would be conducted to spread awareness with the slogan 'Everyone should wear handlooms'. On behalf of APCO, Mandal Commercial Officer N Koteswara Rao shared details of the exhibition. He said that it will continue until August 7, operating daily from 10 am to 5 pm. As part of the Sravana Masam festivities, customers can avail discounts ranging from 30 per cent to 50 per cent on a wide range of handloom products. The exhibition showcases an extensive collection of handloom items from renowned weaving centres such as Mangalagiri, Bandar, Rajahmundry, Uppada, Venkatagiri, Madhavaram and Chirala. He also noted that the exhibition will remain open on upcoming holidays, and encouraged Tirupati residents to make the most of this opportunity to support local weavers.

Mahalanobis' contribution to statistics hailed
Tirupati: Vice-Chancellor of Sri Padmavati Mahila Visvavidyalayam (SPMVV) Prof V Uma lauded the pioneering contributions of Padma Vibhushan awardee and renowned statistician Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis, highlighting his instrumental role in data collection and analysis for India's economic and social planning. She was addressing the 19th National Statistics Day celebrations held on Sunday at SPMVV, commemorating Mahalanobis' 133rd birth anniversary. The programme, organised by the Indian Society for Probability and Statistics (ISPS), aimed not only to honour Mahalanobis but also to promote statistical literacy and awareness among students and the general public. Prof Uma emphasised that Mahalanobis' legacy continues to shape national policies, especially in key areas such as agriculture, population studies, and industrialisation. Highlighting the relevance of statistics across disciplines, the Vice-Chancellor noted that it helps researchers draw reliable conclusions and support policy-making with data-backed insights. Honorary president of ISPS Prof P Rajasekhara Reddy announced that the theme for this year's National Statistics Day, was '75 Years of National Sample Survey.' He recalled how ISPS had envisioned the establishment of a permanent office in Tirupati back in 2008, a dream that has now materialised into a full-fledged Data Science Centre for research and training. The Data Science Centre and Consulting Cell is expected to become a hub for advanced research, training, and consultancy in cutting-edge areas such as data science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. The Centre will also offer a diploma in data science, a two-year MSc in Statistics and Applied Statistics, and evening PG diploma courses in Biostatistics. Speaking on the occasion, Prof Venkata Ikkurthy, a data scientist and clinical SAS programmer based in the USA, stressed the need for a team of well-trained statistical experts who can address the challenging issues that arise in Machine Learning but also extend their expertise in Artificial Intelligence. Dr M Siva Parvathi, in-charge Head of the Department of Statistics at SPMVV, presented an overview of the department's ongoing activities and initiatives. The event also saw the participation of Zonal Head of Union Bank of India Patri Srinivasa Kumar, former ISPS President Prof N Balakrishna, and Regional Head of UBI LSVR Sarma Somancy, among others.

SPMVV inaugurates Nidhi Prayas Shala to nurture innovations
Tirupati: The SSIIE-Technology Business Incubator (SSIIE-TBI) at Sri Padmavati Mahila Visvavidyalayam (SPMVV) marked a milestone in its innovation journey with the inauguration of the NIDHI PRAYAS SHALA on Saturday. The facility, established under the NIDHI PRAYAS scheme, is set to bolster early-stage innovations by providing state-of-the-art infrastructure and support for budding entrepreneurs. The NIDHI PRAYAS SHALA was formally inaugurated by Vice Chancellor Prof V Uma, in the presence of Dr Aanand Govindaluri, Founder and Group CEO of Govin Holdings, Singapore. Registrar Prof N Rajani and CEO of SSIIE-TBI Dr J Surya Kumar were also present. Equipped with high-end Fab Lab infrastructure, the facility aims to nurture technology-led innovations by offering guided mentorship, prototyping resources, and funding opportunities. The initiative is expected to significantly strengthen the startup ecosystem within the university, creating a vibrant platform for women innovators and entrepreneurs. Following the inauguration, a seminar on 'Legal and Financial Architecture for Startups Growth' was held to further engage the startup community and aspiring entrepreneurs. In his keynote address, Dr Aanand Govindaluri stressed the importance of holistic entrepreneurial development, including mentorship, strategic industry collaboration, branding, intellectual property rights, and the mindset of perseverance. The seminar also featured a session by MK Ramakrishna, Consultant in Secretarial, Legal, and M&A Compliance, who offered an in-depth look at the legal frameworks and compliance processes crucial for startups. He elaborated on due diligence, fundraising strategies, and the legal aspects of mergers and acquisitions. Adding a financial perspective, KMC Aanandan, Founder of A K M C Associates, highlighted that a strong financial architecture acts as the bridge between an entrepreneur's ideas and their execution. The event brought together innovators, students, and early-stage entrepreneurs, equipping them with essential knowledge on navigating the complex legal and financial landscape of the startup world.

SPMVV hosts seminar to boost early childhood edn for SL teachers
Tirupati: Sri Padmavati Mahila Visvavidyalayam (SPMVV), Tirupati, in partnership with the Rashtriya Seva Samithi (RASS), hosted a one-day faculty seminar titled 'Child Development for Preschool Teachers of Sri Lanka,' on Tuesday aimed at enhancing international academic collaboration and strengthening early childhood education practices. Organised by the Centre for International Relations at SPMVV, the seminar brought together education leaders from India and Sri Lanka to share best practices and innovative strategies in early childhood education. Addressing the gathering, SPMVV Vice Chancellor Prof V Uma underlined the crucial role of foundational education in shaping the future of children aged 1 to 6 years. 'Early childhood education is not just about teaching, it is about transforming lives during the most sensitive and formative years,' she noted. Executive Director of HEFCYE, Sri Lanka Province KMMWB GalKaduwa lauded India's cultural and linguistic richness and thanked SPMVV for hosting the seminar. 'This experience will empower our teachers with valuable insights and modern pedagogical practices,' he said. RASS Project Officer Ramesh Reddy outlined the broader training programme for the Sri Lankan delegation, which includes sessions at multiple locations in the State until June 21. In a technical session, SPMVV Registrar Prof N Rajini stressed the importance of maintaining a balanced approach to screen time in young learners, ensuring that digital tools support rather than hinder developmental goals. Dean of the Centre for International Relations Prof P Vijaya Lakshmi, Prof T Amudhavalli and Prof T Seetha Kumari also spoke on the occasion. Prof R Usha, Prof T Sobharani, Dr U Himabindu, and Dr Sirisha were also present.
