SPMVV hosts seminar to boost early childhood edn for SL teachers
Organised by the Centre for International Relations at SPMVV, the seminar brought together education leaders from India and Sri Lanka to share best practices and innovative strategies in early childhood education.
Addressing the gathering, SPMVV Vice Chancellor Prof V Uma underlined the crucial role of foundational education in shaping the future of children aged 1 to 6 years.
'Early childhood education is not just about teaching, it is about transforming lives during the most sensitive and formative years,' she noted.
Executive Director of HEFCYE, Sri Lanka Province KMMWB GalKaduwa lauded India's cultural and linguistic richness and thanked SPMVV for hosting the seminar. 'This experience will empower our teachers with valuable insights and modern pedagogical practices,' he said.
RASS Project Officer Ramesh Reddy outlined the broader training programme for the Sri Lankan delegation, which includes sessions at multiple locations in the State until June 21. In a technical session, SPMVV Registrar Prof N Rajini stressed the importance of maintaining a balanced approach to screen time in young learners, ensuring that digital tools support rather than hinder developmental goals.
Dean of the Centre for International Relations Prof P Vijaya Lakshmi, Prof T Amudhavalli and Prof T Seetha Kumari also spoke on the occasion. Prof R Usha, Prof T Sobharani, Dr U Himabindu, and Dr Sirisha were also present.

SPMVV celebrates National Handloom Day
Tirupati: Sri Padmavathi Mahila Viswa Vidyalayam (SPMVV) celebrated National Handloom Day on Thursday, by organising Handloom Power Walk to promote handloom and create awareness among the people. The NSS Bureau along with NSS Units I, VII, and XVI of Sri Padmavati Mahila Visvavidyalayam in collaboration with APCO participated in the walk. Godankitavadhanam marks Goda Devi Avatarotsavam
Tirupati: Celebrating Goda Devi Avatarotsavam, the Department of Telugu Studies at Sri Padmavati Mahila Visvavidyalayam (SPMVV), in association with the Tirupati Sri Krishnadevaraya Satsang, organised a special Godankitavadhanam event on Monday. The event was held to commemorate Goda Devi, also known as Andal or Nachiyar, a revered female saint who is considered an incarnation that descended in the Kali Yuga to exemplify supreme devotion to Lord Vishnu. Known for her divine association with the Lord, Goda Devi is praised for adorning the deity with the very garlands she first wore herself, symbolising her deep spiritual bond and eternal connection with the divine. Godankitavadhanam was performed by renowned Sahasravadhani Dr Medasani Mohan. Demonstrating his exceptional skill, Dr Mohan answered every question posed by the Pcchakas with precision and eloquence, captivating the audience. The Pcchakas (questioners) in the programme included Prof C Lalitha Rani, Dr Yuvasri, Dr Y Subhashini, Dr C Latha, Dr C Swarajya Lakshmi, Dr Jayamma, Dr G Suhasini and Dr B Krishnaveni. Earlier addressing the gathering, Vice-Chancellor of SPMVV Prof V Uma expressed her delight that the event was conducted entirely by women scholars and practitioners, reflecting the university's commitment to empowering women in all spheres, including classical literature and spiritual traditions. Programme Director Prof Kolakaluri Madhu Jyothi highlighted that Goda Devi's devotional verses, the Pasurams of Tiruppavai, are still sung in temples during the auspicious month of Dhanurmasam, with a tradition of singing one Pasuram each day. There is also a popular belief that girls who participate in this practice are blessed with early and happy marriages. Prof Nirmala Thammareddy and Immani Deepa Venkat also spoke.

Cracker units cropping up on Thoothukudi border, farmers wary
THOOTHUKUDI: Raising concerns about safety and potential labour shortage, farmers of Muthalapuram firka in Ettayapuram urged the district administration not to grant permission to establish firecracker manufacturing units in the areas surrounding the firka. Sources said as the neighbouring Virudhunagar district tightened regulations to establish firecracker manufacturing units and with the higher industrial taxes levied by the Sivakasi corporation, many manufacturers are allegedly in the process of establishing units in Muthalapuram, which borders the Virudhunagar district. The Muthalapuram firka consists of over 13 villages along the northern banks of Vaippar river. Agriculture and cattle rearing are the two major occupations and the farmers cultivate rain-fed crops. According to civic body sources, two units at Kailasapuram in Ayan Rajapatti and one at Masarpatti had begun production by employing workers from Sri Lankan rehabilitation camps. Four units in Ayan Rajapatti, two in Arunachalapuram village and one in Karuppur village are under construction. One more unit is under construction along the banks of Vaippar in Keelnattukurichi village without obtaining due licence, claimed sources. A former panchayat president said that many firecracker manufacturers have purchased land parcels in Muthalapuram and its surrounding villages. If such units are established, it will affect the labour for agriculture, he said. With a government-appointed special officer in charge, the officials are granting permission without obtaining public opinion, he alleged. Keelnattukurichi agriculture farmers association president A Varadharajan said that a firecracker manufacturing unit has been established close to the outflow channel of the Keelnattukurichi tank, which is prone to contamination by chemicals and effluents. Considering the environmental issues and frequent accidents, the district must stop giving licenses to operate firecracker manufacturing units in the district, the farmers said. Wishing anonymity, an official said permission is granted to firework units only if the manufacturers fulfil the required criteria.
