Driver in stolen car arrested after wrong-way chase on I-80
A driver in a stolen car wearing a ski mask was arrested after a police pursuit going the wrong way on Interstate 80 earlier this month, the Vallejo Police Department said Sunday. Inside the Dodge Charger officers found a stolen gun loaded with a high-capacity magazine, as well as tools commonly used to steal cars, police said. Officers came across the vehicle on Louisiana Street in Vallejo around 6 p.m. on July 18, police said. The car was blocking an alley and missing a front license plate, its windows tinted illegally. As officers approached the car, they noticed the driver's ski mask; the driver reversed and took off, prompting the pursuit on the freeway, police said. During the chase, officers performed a maneuver to stop the fleeing vehicle, clipping the side of the car's rear fender and disabling it near the Georgia Street exit. Officers then arrested the driver and searched the car, where they found the gun under the driver's seat, police said. A records check revealed that the gun was stolen in Concord. Officers also found a backpack containing a car key reprogramming device, generic key fobs and window punch tools — items commonly used in organized auto theft, police said. A records check showed the car was stolen in Oakland. The rear license plate was also stolen. The driver, who was out on bail in connection with a prior pursuit in Vallejo that ended in a carjacking and an assault on a Berkeley police officer, did not have a valid driver's license, police said. Police did not release further details about the prior incident. The driver was booked into Solano County Jail on suspicion of multiple felonies, including possession of a stolen gun, auto theft and felony evasion, police said.

Man arrested in Vallejo murder case: PD
(KRON) — A 42-year-old man from San Jose has been charged with second-degree murder for the death of a woman who was shot and killed in Vallejo on July 5. A woman suffering from at least one gunshot wound was found unconscious on the 400 block of Admiral Callaghan Lane in Vallejo around 1:36 a.m. She was taken to the hospital where she later died of her injuries. Woman shot dead in Vallejo identified The Vallejo Police Department announced on July 18 that it had arrested the 'primary suspect' in the case. The suspected killer, Jose Guadalupe Castillo, now faces multiple felony charges, including second-degree murder, shooting at an inhabited dwelling, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and committing a felony while out on bail. 'A records check revealed that Castillo was currently out on bail for a previous arrest made by the Vallejo Police Department on May 3, 2025, for willfully discharging a firearm in a grossly negligent manner and for being a felon in possession of a firearm,' the Vallejo Police Department said. Castillo was initially arrested on July 16 following a brief foot chase near Admiral Callaghan Lane, according to VPD. 'When the officers attempted to contact Castillo, he tried to evade them and quickly walked into a convenience store,' VPD said. 'The officers entered the store and arrested Castillo without incident.' Woman killed in overnight San Leandro shooting During his arrest, officers allegedly found a gun with an extended magazine in the aisle where he had been standing. Castillo was initially booked into the Solano County Jail for a felon in possession of a firearm. However, two days later, the Solano County District Attorney's Office reviewed the evidence submitted by VPD detectives and subsequently charged him with second-degree murder. Based on the time, location and circumstances of the victim's death, the arrest is seemingly related to the homicide of 45-year-old Vallejo resident Courtney Whitney. KRON4 contacted VPD and the Solano County District Attorney's Office in an attempt to confirm the connection between Whitney's death and Castillo's arrest. However, as of 5 p.m. Friday, the agencies have not responded. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.

Another conviction for ‘American Nightmare' rapist Matthew Muller. Here's his latest crime
Matthew Muller, the convicted rapist who became the subject of the TV series 'American Nightmare,' has been given additional life sentences, according to the El Dorado County district attorney's office. In a statement released on Thursday, officials said that Muller was convicted in connection with a 2015 home invasion in Contra Costa County. This is the latest of multiple convictions that have been brought to light since Muller was sentenced to 40 years in prison for a Vallejo kidnapping and sexual assault in 2015. The case garnered national attention and became the focus of the true crime series, which was released last year. In 2015, Muller invaded the home of Denise Huskins and Aaron Quinn. Muller bound and drugged the couple, before putting Huskins in Quinn's car and taking her to his family's cabin in South Lake Tahoe. Muller sexually assaulted her and kept her at the cabin for two days before releasing her at Huntington Beach. A complicated and faulty investigation followed, with the Vallejo Police Department and FBI officials initially believing that Huskins and Quinn had orchestrated the events. Two months later, a home invasion in Dublin led authorities to link Muller to the kidnapping of Huskins. Shortly thereafter, Muller pleaded no contest to one count of aggravated kidnapping, and in 2022 he pleaded guilty to sexual assault. He's currently serving his 40-year sentence in Tucson. The home invasion that Muller was most recently convicted of happened just two weeks after that of Huskins and Quinn, but it was never reported to authorities at the time, according to the district attorney's statement. The case was investigated by the El Dorado County district attorney's office, the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Department and the FBI — an effort driven by 'the persistence' of Huskins and Quinn, Seaside Police Chief Nick Borges and Detective Misty Carausu, the statement said. The district attorney's release does not say who initially tipped off authorities to the crime, but it does say that a multi-day interview in Tucson took place between authorities and Miller. Officials said Muller provided them a rough diagram of the location, and authorities said they used Google Maps to find the home he described. In the interview, Muller said he used a ladder to get into the second story of the home. He disposed of the ladder in a nearby ravine while he was departing the area, the release said. Last month, Muller pleaded guilty to a 32-year-old kidnapping and sexual assault — his earliest known crime, according to the release. He was sentenced to 11 years to life in prison. Officials said Muller admitted to these crimes in the same Tucson interview. Muller has an additional life sentence without the possibility of parole after he pleaded guilty to two 2009 home invasions in Santa Clara County. 'It's a shame it has taken 10 years to correct the mistakes made in the original investigation that permitted Muller to terrorize two additional families,' El Dorado County Dist. Atty. Vern Pierson said. 'Poor interview and investigation practices permitted these additional families to be victimized.' Huskins and Quinn will soon be given the California District Attorneys Assn.'s Witness of the Year Award, 'in recognition of their perseverance and commitment to justice,' the release said.
