Residents in Vallejo neighborhood urged to shelter in place amid police activity
In a social media post just after noon, the Vallejo Police Department said people in the area bordered south of Nebraska Street, west of Broadway, north of Tennessee Street, and east of Sonoma Boulevard/Highway 29 to stay indoors.
People outside the perimeter were told to stay out of the area.
There was no immediate word on the nature of the police activity.

Secret Service thwarts potential threat near Trump's White House grounds with rapid response
The U.S. Secret Service confirmed Sunday evening that a person is in custody following reports that a suspicious package was found near the White House. Twice during his 2024 campaign for the nation's highest office, President Donald Trump was the subject of assassination attempts. July 13 marked one year since a lone gunman on a rooftop at the Butler Farm Show Grounds in Pennsylvania fired eight rounds at the president while he hosted a campaign rally. Trump was shot in the ear before his Secret Service detail dove atop him and pulled him to the ground. The gunman was killed by authorities at the scene. Trump emerged with blood dripping down his cheek, and in an iconic moment, raised his fist and chanted, "Fight, fight, fight" while his security detail attempted to whisk him away to safety. Corey Camperatore, a local former fire chief who was attending the rally, was shot and killed while valiantly shielding his family from the volley of gunfire. Just three months later, the Secret Service spotted the barrel of a rifle poking through the bushes while Trump played golf at his Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida. The suspect in that alleged attempt on Trump's life, Ryan Routh, 59, ran away when spotted, only to be taken into custody a short time later. He was charged with assaulting a federal officer and multiple firearms violations, along with the attempted assassination. He is scheduled to represent himself at his upcoming trial.

1 man in critical condition after shooting in Pittsburgh's Bedford Dwellings neighborhood
A man has been hospitalized in critical condition after a shooting in Pittsburgh's Bedford Dwellings neighborhood. Just before 8 p.m. Sunday, Pittsburgh police officers from Zone 2 were dispatched to the 2500 block of Chauncey Drive for a single, four-round ShotSpotter alert. While officers were en route to the scene, a man with a single gunshot wound to his chest arrived at the Zone 2 police station after driving himself there. EMS personnel subsequently transported the man to an area hospital. A preliminary information suggests that the suspect fled the scene on Chauncey Drive in a vehicle, heading north, towards the McKees Rocks area. Officers are reviewing any available camera footage and interviewing witnesses in the area as the investigation remains ongoing.

18-year-old dead, 2 teens injured after crashing into tree in Fairless Hills, Pennsylvania, police say
An 18-year-old woman is dead, and two teens were injured after their car crashed into a tree in Fairless Hills, Pennsylvania, on Sunday, Bristol Township police said. The crash happened on Wistar Road near Armstrong Middle School just before 4 p.m., according to police. Police said a 17-year-old boy was driving a white 2002 Mustang eastbound on Wistar Road at a high rate of speed with two passengers inside, including the 18-year-old woman in the backseat, when he lost control and struck a tree. The 18-year-old was taken to St. Mary Medical Center in Langhorne, where she died from her injuries, according to police. The 17-year-old driver, who is from Levittown, Bucks County, and another 17-year-old boy sitting in the front passenger seat were both placed in stable condition at St. Mary, police said. The crash is under investigation. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact the Bristol Township Police Department.
