Shaun White and Nina Dobrev are 'are having fun with wedding planning'
Shaun White and Nina Dobrev are "excited" to plan their wedding. The loved-up couple got engaged in 2024, and they've recently relished the experience of planning their wedding together. Shaun, 38, told People: "It's very exciting to have new aspirations and new things that we're going after and together. It's very humbling and very exciting, and she's excited. "We've gotten a lot of advice from different people who have planned their own weddings and things. So we're definitely gathering information and now trying to see what's going to work best for us in any way." Shaun has actually had "fun" planning their big day, and their "next chapter" as a couple. The former Olympian shared: "It's like you took that next step and yeah, it's just a fun sort of planning phase of life. "Like, 'What's the next steps, and the next chapter and where do we want to be?' It's fun. It's fun to have somebody to plan all that with." The celebrity duo are currently on the lookout for a wedding planner, to help them with their preparations for their big day. Shaun hopes that the planner can ultimately "bring [their] ideas to life". The retired sports star said: "We're still just looking for a planner to plan the wedding. "I'm not capable of this and luckily, like, I want to be involved, but logistically I'm not, it's not my strong suit. So I think visually I'm getting involved with what I want, but we're still looking for someone to help bring our ideas to life." Nina and Shaun began dating in 2020, and the couple announced their engagement in October 2024. Nina previously revealed to Vogue magazine that they got engaged in New York City in late October. Recalling Shaun's proposal, the 36-year-old actress confessed: "I went into shock. I just froze and stared at him." Shaun - who is a three-time Olympic gold medallist in half-pipe snowboarding - popped the question with a five carat diamond ring. Shaun actually managed to catch his fiancee by surprise. Nina - who previously dated Ian Somerhalder, her former 'Vampire Diaries' co-star - recalled: "He said all the right things."

Grey's Anatomy's Ellen Pompeo Sounds Off About the Recent Plot Twist That She Was ‘Deeply Against'
Can't say that I blame Ellen Pompeo for being 'deeply against' the Grey's Anatomy storyline in which legendary rule-breaker Meredith followed protocol to the letter upon learning that Catherine's protegé Evynn had lied about wife Tasha's Alzheimer's in order to obtain a liver transplant for her. But, as the actress tells our sister site Variety, 'I don't always have a say in the choices the character makes. And writers will initially service a plot before they might stop to think, 'Would the Meredith Grey that [Ellen] built… make that choice?'' Case in point: the Season 21 two-parter in question. (Read the recaps here and here.) 'My problem with that storyline,' Pompeo explains, 'was the Meredith Grey that I've created would have always been like, 'I'm pissed that you lied, [but] let's figure out how to game the system together to get you this f—king liver. F—k the system. The system is broken.' She's done free surgeries, whatever it takes, to actually heal and help people.' According to Variety, the Grey's Anatomy OG 'was so livid that she had an emotional outburst.' Ultimately, guest star Lena Waithe, who played Evynn, adjusted Pompeo's POV, helping her see that the plot was serving Meredith's significant other, Nick. 'At the end of the day,' she says, 'Meg [Marinis], who's the showrunner, Debbie [Allen, the EP who plays Catherine] and Shonda [Rhimes, the series' creator] all recognize that all of my outspokenness about the creative on the show is all out of a place of caring deeply about the show. 'I see my job as trying to keep Shonda's legacy as good and solid as we can,' she continues, 'and the minute you stop caring or phoning it in or getting lazy, we're not really doing what we've been paid to do.' Ghosts' Román Zaragoza Ponders How Sasappis Died: ‘I Want It to Be Something Really Embarrassing'
And then there was one: Following Ghosts' reveal last season about how Hetty died, Sasappis is the only spirit left whose demise remains a mystery. While his portrayer Román Zaragoza doesn't know when the CBS comedy will share the circumstances of Sas' death, he does have a request for how it should go. More from TVLine Ghosts' Román Zaragoza Talks Sasappis' Love Triangle Twist and Why He Pitched For Sas to Be a Virgin Ghosts Powers, Ranked: Whose Special Ability Is Best? And Which One Stinks? Matlock Left Matty and Olympia in a Very Surprising Place Ahead of 2-Hour Finale 'I keep thinking it'd be really funny [if it was] something, like, incredibly embarrassing,' the actor tells TVLine. 'Because Thor was kind of there, so maybe he knows. Like, he's hiding it. I don't know, but I want it to be something really embarrassing.' Zaragoza says he's had 'some conversations with some writers,' but the timing of the big reveal is 'very much up in the air.' 'They want to dive into it, but I think it's a slow burn,' Zaragoza explains. 'They don't want to show all the cards yet, because at this point, I think we know how every ghost died except for Sas, and we know all the powers, too. So I think they're trying to hold onto his death to be a bigger thing down the road. But I'm curious.' In addition to diving into Sas' death, Zaragoza has a few other items on his Season 5 wish list. (The series was picked up for two seasons in February.) 'Seeing more of his life could be really fun,' Zaragoza shares. 'I want to see more of him with his dad, would love to bring my dad [Gregory Zaragoza] back [as Sasappis' father], and would love to see more about who he was when he was alive, because he was a timid person. In that flashback with his father, we saw that he's kind of timid, and then him with Shiki, he's timid, and saying, 'Hi,' and, like, how did that come about? Who is he? Who was he when he was alive?' 'The more that we can see that, it translates into what's happening now,' Zaragoza continues. 'And then that would be really fun to see him with [new love interest] Joan, and to see how all these things are coming back, all these things he hasn't even thought about for the last 500 years because he's just been dead, and been living that kind of afterlife.' fans, what are your theories about how Sas died? LJ Smith, the author whose bestselling Vampire Diaries novels were adapted into a hit TV show, has died aged 66. The New York Times reports that the bestselling author died on March 8 in Walnut Creek, Calif, after suffering effects of a rare autoimmune disease for a decade. 'She will be remembered for her imaginative spirit, her pioneering role in supernatural fiction, and her generosity, warmth and heart, both on and off the page.' (Lisa Jane) Smith published the original four-book series, about two vampire brothers and an orphaned young woman, in 1991 and 1992, before they were turned into a hit TV show that debuted in 2009. She wrote another trilogy in 2009-11. BBC News reports that in 2011 Smith was dropped by her publishers, who owned the rights to the series, and commissioned other writers to continue. But later the series was added to an Amazon Kindle scheme, which gave anyone the right to publish fan fiction, and she continued to create new instalments for the characters she had created. The Vampire Diaries TV show ran for eight years and won 30 Teen Choice Awards, including six consecutive wins for Nina Dobrev who played Elena for six seasons. Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder also starred as brothers Stefan and Damon Salvatore. Smith also wrote a series of Night World novels, also featuring vampires. Nine books in this series were published between 1996 and 1998. Dark Visions and The Forbidden Game were other trilogies she penned. Her trilogy The Secret Circle was published in 1992 and adapted into a TV drama in 2011. L.J. Smith, whose ‘Vampire Diaries' books inspired CW series, dies at 66
Author L.J. Smith, who created the 'Vampire Diaries' book series that inspired the CW drama of the same name and contributed to pop culture's obsession with vampires, has died. Smith died March 8 in a hospital in Walnut Creek, Calif., The Times confirmed. A statement shared to Smith's website says she died 'peacefully' after 'a long bout with illness.' The author's partner Julie Divola and sister Judy Clifford confirmed to the New York Times on Wednesday that Smith, a Danville, Calif., resident, died 'after enduring the cascading effects of a rare autoimmune disease for a decade.' She was 66. 'Lisa was a kind and gentle soul, whose brilliance, creativity, resilience and empathy, illuminated the lives of her family, friends and fans alike,' the announcement on Smith's website said. 'She will be remembered for her imaginative spirit, her pioneering role in supernatural fiction, and her generosity, warmth and heart, both on and off the page. Smith, who was born in Florida in September 1958,, wrote several young-adult book series including 'Night World' and 'The Secret Circle' but was best known for creating the 'Vampire Diaries' novels. Smith's inaugural entries for the fantasy series famously laid the groundwork for the CW adaptation of the same name by producers Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson. The CW's 'Vampire Diaries,' riding off of pop culture's vampire obsession reignited by Stephenie Meyer's 'Twilight' series and film adaptations, aired from 2009 to 2017. 'Vampire Diaries' starred Nina Dobrev as teenager Elena Gilbert, who finds herself in a love triangle between vampire brothers Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) and Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley) while navigating the less-mythical throes of high school and moving on from her past. Smith grew up in Southern California and began writing as a child. She published her debut fantasy novel, 'The Night of the Solstice,' in 1987, according to her website, and caught the attention of an editor at Alloy Entertainment. Alloy signed Smith to begin its 'Vampire Diaries' book series, according to NYT. She published the first four 'Vampire Diaries' books from 1991 to 1992. Alloy hired Smith on a work-for-hire contract — meaning she did not own the rights to her characters — but she did not realize it at the time, the Wall Street Journal reported in 2014. Years after entering the literary scene, Smith took a hiatus from writing to deal with family matters, including her mother's death. She reentered the world of 'Vampire Diaries' in 2007 amid the success of Meyer's vampire franchise. She struck another deal with Alloy to pen more 'Vampire Diaries' books, published in 2009 and 2010. Shortly after, Smith parted ways with HarperCollins (which bought the 'Vampire Diaries' book series) and Alloy, reportedly over creative differences. Despite this, Alloy hired a ghostwriter to write new novels and complete the 'Vampire Diaries' series. 'I didn't realize that they could take the series away from me,' Smith told the WSJ in 2014. 'I was heartbroken.' Though Smith turned her focus to other work after the fallout with Alloy and HarperCollins, she ultimately picked up 'Vampire Diaries' where she left off — writing the story her way through fan fiction. In Amazon's now-defunct Kindle Worlds fan-fiction publishing platform, Smith reclaimed her beloved characters in informal 'Vampire Diaries' entries. Smith's writing portfolio also included short stories that she published on her website. She most recently finished the latest books in her 'Night World' and 'Strange Fate' series and the adult book 'Lullaby,' according to her website. In an entry in her FAQ, Smith says 'I didn't choose or decide' to become a writer. 'I have been a storyteller since before I learned how to read or write,' she said. 'I knew from my earliest childhood — the first things I remember— that I would only be happy as a storyteller.' Smith is also survived by her sister Judy Clifford; her niece Lauren Clifford and Lauren's son Wyatt; and her nephew Brian Clifford and his wife, Taylor Acampora.
