Love Island star Olivia Bowen is set to welcome her second child with husband Alex Bowen this summer, and has opened up about the support she's received from her loved ones Pregnant Olivia Bowen has opened up about the complicated emotions she is dealing with as she prepares to become a mother for the second time. The former Love Island star and husband Alex Bowen are already parents to son Abel Jacob and are due to welcome their first daughter into their growing family later this summer. ‌ Olivia was originally expecting twins but earlier this year, the pregnant star shared how suffered Vanishing Twin Syndrome (VTS), a condition in which one embryo is lost early on, leaving just one developing fetus. Sharing an update with fans on Instagram, Olivia revealed that the nursery for their new baby is almost ready but her due date nearing has stirred up some emotions. ‌ "It brings back so many memories of when our village helped feed Abe… those quiet, lovely moments where family could bond with him, and I could have a much-needed breather too," she told fans. "It was never just about the feeds – it was about feeling supported, surrounded, and lifted up." ‌ "This time around, I know our people will be just as amazing. I can already picture Daddy giving Baby Girl her first bottle (while I sneak off for that much needed nap). He's the one who keeps us going. always showing up with a cup of tea, a kind word, or a belly laugh with Abel. It really does take a village, and I'm so grateful for mine." Olivia, 31, announced she was pregnant with a video of her and her husband, along with their first child Abel – who was born in 2022, posted to Instagram in February. ‌ The pair met on the 2016 series of the ITV reality show, finishing second behind winners Cara De La Hoyde and Nathan Massey, who got married in 2019 and are parents to son Freddie-George and daughter Delilah. Olivia and Alex got married in September 2018 and are one of the rare pairings from the show that have remained together. Olivia has previously spoken about how she felt she would be "so rubbish as a mum" before the birth of Abel. In a post on Instagram shortly after his birth for World Breast Feeding Week, she said: "I never thought I would breast feed. I think where I felt like I was not a maternal person whatsoever before Abel was born, I had serious doubts it would work for me and I also didn't even feel comfortable with the thought of it. "I would go as far as to say it freaked me out a bit. You all know I wasn't sure on having kids and it's mainly because I felt like I would be so rubbish as a Mum, not a maternal bone in my body pre Abel. Fast forward to when Abel was born and he first latched in the hospital it couldn't of felt more natural. The bond and connection I feel with him when feeding I will be forever grateful for."

Olivia Bowen shares pregnancy update after revealing Vanishing Twin Syndrome

Olivia Bowen says preparations for her baby girl are 'really coming together' after what she calls 'the most complicated batch of emotions' she's ever experienced. The former Love Island star, 31, is expecting her second child with husband Alex Bowen this summer. The couple, already parents to son Abel Jacob, began this pregnancy with twins, but Olivia revealed earlier this year she suffered Vanishing Twin Syndrome (VTS), a condition in which one embryo is lost early on, leaving just one developing fetus. Speaking to fans on Instagram, Olivia said the nursery is ready, 'her little clothes are washed and folded, and we've got her bottles ready to go.' The preparations, she admitted, stirred powerful memories of when Abel was born. 'It brings back so many memories of when our village helped feed Abe… those quiet, lovely moments where family could bond with him, and I could have a much-needed breather too,' she wrote. 'It was never just about the feeds – it was about feeling supported, surrounded, and lifted up.' Wake up to find news on your TV shows in your inbox every morning with Metro's TV Newsletter. Olivia said she already pictures Alex giving Baby Girl her first bottle (while I sneak off for that much-needed nap). He's the one who keeps us going, always showing up with a cup of tea, a kind word, or a belly laugh with Abel. It really does take a village, and I'm so grateful for mine.' Vanishing Twin Syndrome, which effects around 36% of twin pregnancies, is usually caused by DNA abnormalities in one twin. It can happen without any symptoms, and that was the case for Olivia – who only learned of the loss at a scan. She previously shared how the loss effected her mental health: 'I have battled with depression and anxiety for most of my teen years onwards, and when I felt its ugly head rising stronger than I'd ever felt when I was pregnant with Abel, I was absolutely terrified,' she told followers. 'I felt like that darkness was taking over and pulling me down with both paws.' After giving birth to Abel, she said, 'I felt it again… it's not just the hormones, it's the whole expectation, the change, and the world feeling different to what you have experienced your whole life. Then fast forward to this year, losing one of our precious babies to Vanishing Twin Syndrome and going through the most complicated batch of emotions I've ever felt.' According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Vanishing Twin Syndrome is: 'When one of the twins or multiple embryos dies in utero, disappears or gets resorbed partially or entirely, with an outcome of a spontaneous reduction of a multi-fetus pregnancy to a singleton pregnancy, portraying the image of a vanishing twin. 'This phenomenon occurs in about half of pregnancies with three or more gestational sacs, 36% twin pregnancies, and 20 to 30% of pregnancies achieved with assisted reproductive techniques.' However, despite these lows, Olivia shared that since speaking out, she's been 'utterly astounded' by the number of women who've reached out with similar experiences. More Trending Her advice: 'Never be ashamed of your emotions. It is the most incredible thing about you – being able to feel so deeply. It is so scary to be so vulnerable, isn't it? 'This is a crazy ride and sometimes it's beautiful and rewarding and sometimes it's cruel and confusing. I'm here for you all. Please look after the women and mothers in your life.' For Olivia, this summer is now about focusing on joy, family, and welcoming her daughter – with her 'village' ready to support her every step of the way. Got a story? The former Love Islander, 31, revealed that preparations for her baby daughter are now 'really coming together' and expressed gratitude to those who have stood by her during challenging times. ‌ Olivia and husband Alex, who are already parents of Abel Jacob, are expecting their second child this summer. Taking to Instagram yesterday, the star from Chelmsford wrote: "The prep for Baby Girl is really coming together… the nursery's done, her little clothes are washed and folded, and we've got her bottles ready to go thanks to @philipsavent. ‌ "It brings back so many memories of when our village helped feed Abe... those quiet, lovely moments where family could bond with him, and I could have a much-needed breather too. Content cannot be displayed without consent Olivia's positive update comes after she endured Vanishing Twin Syndrome (VTS) during the early stages of her pregnancy. This tragic condition occurs when one twin in a multiple pregnancy vanishes, leaving behind just one embryo. It is a form of miscarriage occurring in approximately 36 per cent of twin pregnancies, where the affected foetus is absorbed either by the surviving twin or by the mother's body. ‌ Earlier this year, Olivia expressed that she'd experienced the 'most complicated batch of emotions' she'd ever known during the pregnancy. "I have battled with depression and anxiety for most of my teen years onwards, and when I felt its ugly head rising stronger than I'd ever felt when I was pregnant with Abel, I was absolutely terrified," she wrote in a separate Instagram post. "I felt like that darkness was taking over and pulling me down with both paws. I felt it again after giving birth, have felt it intermittently throughout motherhood. It's not just the hormones, it's the whole expectation, the change, and the world feeling different to what you have experienced your whole life. "Then fast forward to this year, losing one of our precious babies to Vanishing Twin Syndrome and going through the most complicated batch of emotions I've ever felt." ‌ Olivia and Alex Bowen are expecting their second child this summer (Image: PA) Despite the difficulties she'd encountered, Olivia has been completely overwhelmed by the reaction from other women who have wrestled with comparable experiences. "Never be ashamed of your emotions. It is the most incredible thing about you - being able to feel so deeply," she continued. ‌ "It is so scary to be so vulnerable, isn't it? This is a crazy ride and sometimes it's beautiful and rewarding and sometimes it's cruel and confusing. I'm here for you all. Please look after the women and mothers in your life." Though Olivia experienced no VTS symptoms, the Cleveland Clinic suggests that light bleeding, cramps, and pain in the back and pelvis could be warning signs. The condition typically stems from DNA abnormalities in one twin that hinder its development. Unfortunately, these problems are usually present from conception and cannot be altered or controlled. "If the embryo disappears in the first trimester, neither you nor your surviving foetus will likely experience any complications," the clinic explains. "Your pregnancy will continue as usual... It's possible to be pregnant with multiples and to miscarry one or more of the embryos before your first pregnancy ultrasound. She shared a selfie as she wore a pale green T-shirt with paint splatters on it as well as holding a paint brush. ‌ Olivia captioned the photo: "35 weeks pregnant decorating in this heat I think I have a screw loose but it's done and so am I," along with a collection of emojis. ‌ Olivia is currently pregnant with her second child, with her due to give birth in just a few weeks. Not only is she almost due to give birth, but she has also taken on decorating duties while the UK is experiencing a heatwave. ‌ The star and her husband Alex shared their sweet announcement back in February that they were expecting a baby girl. They posted an adorable homemade video and later delighted followers with footage of their three-year-old son Abel revealing a pink-ribboned bear. While the baby's exact due date remains under wraps, Alex has let slip that his partner is feeling exhausted, especially with the recent heatwave: "Olivia's very tired and with the heat recently it's been a little bit mad for her." The couple have implemented some measures in order to beat the heat, Alex revealed: "We've got air con in the bedroom and in the kitchen so she kind of drifts between each room so she'll spend time in the bedroom and when she gets bored she goes into the kitchen." ‌ Alex expressed immense pride in how Olivia is coping, adding: "She's alright and doing well, I'm proud of her, bless her", reports OK!. Love Island couple Alex and Olivia have previously spoken about tragically experiencing Vanishing Twin Syndrome earlier in the pregnancy, where one twin is absorbed in the womb during the first trimester. Olivia discussed their experience with the condition on Loose Women, saying: "As soon as we found out it was twins I was already quite nervous because we've not had a great history of twins in our family but Alex was so positive." ‌ Speaking about a difficult moment during the pregnancy, Olivia shared: "We went back at eight weeks and something happened called Vanishing Twin Syndrome. "I'd had no symptoms, I'd had no pain, no bleeding, absolutely nothing to tell me that that was what we were walking into and I guess from that moment we were completely floored." Olivia and Alex first got together on Love Island's second series in 2016 and have since celebrated six years of marriage. Their family started to grow when they welcomed their son Abel in June 2022.
