Krishna Janmashtami 2025: Why Krishna Janmashtami Is Celebrated

Krishna Janmashtami 2025: Krishna Janmashtami is celebrated in India to mark the birth of Lord Krishna, the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Krishna was born in Mathura on the eighth day (Ashtami) of the Krishna Paksha in the month of Bhadrapada. This auspicious festival is now popular across the world. Krishna's birth symbolises the triumph of good over evil as he killed King Kansa, freeing the world from his tyranny. Krishna's life and teachings focus on the importance of love, compassion and selfless service. Krishna Janmashtami 2025: The Birth Story Of Krishna Lord Krishna was born to Devaki and Vasudeva in a prison cell in Mathura. King Kansa, who was Devaki's brother, had imprisoned his parents and killed their first six children because of a prophecy that the eighth child would be his downfall. Krishna's birth was marked by miracles, including sleeping prison guards, broken chains and open gates, allowing Vasudeva to take Krishna to safety. Vasudeva carried Krishna across the raging River Yamuna to Gokul, where he was raised by Nanda and Yashoda. Krishna Janmashtami 2025: Celebrations The devotees observe fasts, sing devotional songs and worship Krishna's idol or image. Krishna's birth is celebrated at midnight. In some regions, young men form human pyramids to break a pot filled with curd (dahi), symbolising Krishna's love for the same. Krishna's birth is celebrated with bhajans (devotional songs), chanting, and re-enactments of Krishna's birth story. Especially in Maharashtra, young men form human pyramids to break a pot filled with curd or butter, symbolising Krishna's childhood mischief. Idols of baby Krishna are bathed, dressed and placed in cradles. Dramas and dances, Rasa Lila and Krishna Leela, depicting Krishna's youthful pastimes, are performed.

Message from Krishna leelas

Thirukkudandhai Dr. Venkatesh said in a discourse that the various leelas enacted by Lord Krishna are backed by different philosophies. His appearance before Devaki and Vasudeva in prison, sporting four hands, indicates that He is ever ready to extend the four precious tenets of Dharma, Artha, Kama, and Moksha needed for a pious life to His devotees. Like dense clouds bringing heavy rain, Krishna, matching the colour of dark clouds, would pour down His rain-like grace on us. When Krishna's father Vasudeva carried Him from prison to Gokulam, all the chains automatically disjoined. Likewise, He would detach us from the worldly tethers. Acharya Vedanta Desika says in 'Yadavabhyudayam' that like how a jnani or yogi crosses the sea of samsara, Vasudeva crossed the river Yamuna. There is no antecedent of God's divine feet causing harm. They will only shower blessings and grant moksha. The Lord kicked Sakatasura, who came to kill, and ultimately granted him Moksha. 'Sakatam' denotes a wheel rotating by going up and down. We are also rotating in this world up and down by repeated births and deaths. Clinging onto His feet through surrender will stop the wheel of our rotation. Antaryami Brahmanam of the Brihadaranyaka Upanishad says God is omniscient, omnipresent, and omnipotent and resides in every being as a micro form. As a macro form, He holds all the universe's beings in Him. When Yasodha asked Krishna to open His mouth, He showed her the universe. A snake does not travel straight; it only zigzags. The serpent Kaliya, with five hoods, emitted poison, and Krishna controlled it by dancing on its hood. Our mind is like Kaliya veering from one end to another. We have five faculties like the five hoods. We are pushed into the poison-like worldly pleasures. If we hold the divine feet of God, we can get liberation.

Delhi: World's largest adrenal tumor removed robotically at Safdarjung Hospital

New Delhi: Safdarjung Hospital has achieved a new milestone in its robotic surgery program with the successful conduct of a complex robotic surgery on a 36-year-old woman who was diagnosed with a giant adrenal tumour. Medical Superintendent of Safdarjung Hospital, Dr Sandeep Bansal, informed that the adrenal tumour, measuring 18.2 x 13.5 cms, is the largest ever adrenal tumour in the world to have been removed robotically in a minimally invasive fashion. The robotic surgery was conducted by Professor and Head of the Department of Urology and Renal Transplant, Dr Pawan Vasudeva, along with Dr Niraj Kumar and Dr Avishek Mandal. The anaesthesia team, comprised of Dr Sushil, Dr Bhavya, and Dr Megha. The procedure was fraught with dangers since the tumour not only had grown to a massive size but had also encroached upon and was dangerously adherent to three critical body structures that is the Inferior Vena Cava, the Liver and the Right kidney. The tumour needed to be removed in its entirety without damaging the critical surrounding structures. Dr Vasudeva opined that precise dissection is the key to performing such surgeries and that the 3d Vision of the Da Vinci robot, along with its dextrous robotic arms, allows one to perform complex surgeries with greater precision than what is usually possible with laparoscopy. In this case, the surgery lasted over three hours, and the tumour could be completely removed without any complications. Post-operative recovery was uneventful, and the patient was discharged in three days. Robotic surgery offers numerous benefits, including small keyhole incisions, precise work, reduced postoperative pain, early postoperative recovery and discharge with a faster return to work. If this surgery had been performed by an open route, it would've required a skin incision of more than 20 cms, with subsequent complete healing requiring a few weeks, informed Dr Vasudeva. Dr Sandeep Bansal said that this milestone showcases Safdarjung Hospital's expertise in robotic surgery and its dedication to delivering cutting-edge quality healthcare free of cost to all patients. A complex robotic surgery of this nature, which was performed free of cost at Safdarjung Hospital, would've cost upwards of a few lakhs in the private sector.

World's largest adrenal tumor removed robotically at Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital

Doctors successfully removed a large adrenal tumor from a woman NEW DELHI: Safdarjung Hospital has set a new record in its robotic surgery programme by successfully removing a giant 18.2 x 13.5 cm adrenal tumour the largest ever extracted through minimally invasive robotic surgery from a 36-year-old woman. Dr Sandeep Bansal, Medical superintendent of Safdarjung Hospital, confirmed the milestone and praised the team's efforts. The complex surgery was carried out by Professor and Head of Urology and Renal Transplant, Dr Pawan Vasudeva, along with Dr Niraj Kumar and Dr Avishek Mandal. Dr Vasudeva explained that careful and precise dissection was crucial, made possible by the Da Vinci robotic system 's 3D vision and dexterous arms. The surgery lasted over three hours and was completed successfully without damaging nearby organs. The patient made a smooth recovery and was discharged just three days after surgery. Doctors noted that robotic surgery provides many benefits, such as smaller incisions, less pain, quicker recovery, and faster return to daily activities. In contrast, traditional open surgery would have required a much larger incision and a longer healing period. Dr Vasudeva added that if performed privately, a robotic surgery of this complexity would have cost several lakhs of rupees. However, at Safdarjung Hospital, it was provided free of cost, demonstrating the hospital's commitment to offering world-class healthcare services accessible to all.
