World's largest adrenal tumor removed robotically at Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital

Safdarjung Hospital
has set a new record in its
robotic surgery
programme by successfully removing a giant 18.2 x 13.5 cm adrenal tumour the largest ever extracted through minimally invasive robotic surgery from a 36-year-old woman.
Dr Sandeep Bansal, Medical superintendent of Safdarjung Hospital, confirmed the milestone and praised the team's efforts. The complex surgery was carried out by Professor and Head of Urology and Renal Transplant, Dr Pawan Vasudeva, along with Dr Niraj Kumar and Dr Avishek Mandal.

The procedure was particularly risky as the tumour had not only grown to an enormous size but was also dangerously attached to critical organs including the Inferior Vena Cava, liver, and right kidney.
Dr Vasudeva explained that careful and precise dissection was crucial, made possible by the
Da Vinci robotic system
's 3D vision and dexterous arms.
The surgery lasted over three hours and was completed successfully without damaging nearby organs.
The patient made a smooth recovery and was discharged just three days after surgery. Doctors noted that robotic surgery provides many benefits, such as smaller incisions, less pain, quicker recovery, and faster return to daily activities.
In contrast, traditional open surgery would have required a much larger incision and a longer healing period.
Dr Vasudeva added that if performed privately, a robotic surgery of this complexity would have cost several lakhs of rupees.
However, at Safdarjung Hospital, it was provided free of cost, demonstrating the hospital's commitment to offering world-class healthcare services accessible to all.

Bengaluru, Aug 18 (PTI) Sakra World Hospital on Monday announced that it has become the first hospital in Karnataka to perform more than 550 robotic cardiac surgeries, and the fastest centre globally to achieve the milestone, according to official Da Vinci surgical system data. The feat was achieved in under three years, with a year-on-year growth of about 40 per cent, the hospital said. 'Robotic cardiac surgery is transforming the treatment of heart disease. While conventional open-heart surgery typically requires 8–10 days of hospitalisation and two–three months for full recovery, patients undergoing robotic procedures at Sakra are often discharged within three–four days, with most resuming normal life in just two–three weeks," the hospital said in a statement. The benefits—including minimal pain, negligible blood loss, faster mobilisation, reduced antibiotic use, and smaller incisions—have made this advanced approach the preferred choice for patients from across India and abroad," it added. Over the past three years, Sakra said it has developed one of the country's most sought-after robotic cardiac surgery programmes. The programme has treated patients aged between 15 and 84 years, delivering 'safe, precise and life-changing outcomes," the statement further said. Amazon India Announces 1.5 Lakh New Jobs Owing To Festive Demand-Details
Mumbai: Online marketplace Amazon India on Monday announced that it has created over 1.5 lakh seasonal work opportunities in the country due to the increased demand in the festive season. "These include direct and indirect work opportunities in 400+ cities, including Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Cochin, Coimbatore, Indore, Raipur, etc. Job opportunities were created for thousands of women associates and over 2000 PWDs (differently abled people), and the company has already onboarded many of these new associates, a release from Amazon India said. The seasonal jobs are available in fulfilment centres (FCs), sort centres, and last-mile delivery stations. "Many of these new associates continue their journey with Amazon beyond the festive period, with a significant number returning to work with us year after year,' said Abhinav Singh, VP - Operations, India & Australia, Amazon. "Throughout our operations, we prioritise the safety and well-being of all associates—whether they're working in our buildings or delivering packages to customers," he said. "We remain dedicated to fostering a safe, equitable, and empowering work environment that includes social security benefits and supports the financial well-being of all our team," Singh added. Amazon has increased the number of Ashray rest centres in India to 100 to support the well-being of its associates in the e-commerce network, the release said. Further, it claimed to provide free health check-ups to over 80,000 delivery associates across major cities, offering comprehensive services that include eye, dental, BMI, and physician consultations. Additionally, an on-site first aid ('AMCARE') facility is available at the fulfilment centres to anyone who needs immediate first-aid attention or rest. "The Early Access to Pay (EATP) programme allows associates to withdraw up to 80 per cent of their accrued basic salary within the first 20 days of each month, promoting financial flexibility and wellness," the company said.

Handling tiger cub with care & vitamins
New Delhi: Delhi zoological garden vets are hand-rearing a tiger cub to support its survival. Earlier this month, the tigress Aditi gave birth to a litter of six, of which two cubs died last week, and one of the remaining four has grown weak as it is unable to drink the milk. According to officials, in the early hours of Saturday, one of the four cubs was admitted to the hospital and is being hand-reared. Its condition is now stable. The remaining three cubs are with the mother and are being fed regularly. Zoo officials said the female cub was shifted to the hospital on Saturday around 12 am as it had not consumed milk for over 12 hours. Officials said that the cub's health stabilised by hand-rearing a special milk formula for cats, which also has vitamin supplements. On Aug 4, the seven-year-old tigress delivered six Bengal tiger cubs, the largest litter in the zoo in two decades. One cub died on Aug 8. The zoo said the baby was the weakest of the six. Another cub was unable to feed on its mother's milk. "It was weaned and transferred to the zoo hospital on Aug 9 but died the next day, despite all effort to save it. Constant monitoring of the mother and cubs is on through CCTV and a keeper. Required supplements are being given to the mother too to enhance milk letdown," Delhi Zoo director Sanjeet Kumar had said earlier.
