Raised wooden planter at 'just the right height to avoid back pain' gets £40 price slash
'These vegetable raised beds are great, just the right height to not hurt your back when tendering to the produce being grown.' Many people enjoy bringing their garden a new lease of life by planting colourful flowers and plants and growing their own fruit and veg. While this is a hobby that requires determination and patience, it boasts a range of fruitful rewards. However, as vibrant as the garden may look, the tasks required can lead to a lot of back ache as gardeners are constantly kneeling down and bending over to tend to their favourite plants. If this is something gardeners are struggling with, it may be worth considering buying a raised planter to ease the pain. Over on Yimbly, which is owned by Daily Record's parent company Reach Plc, the shopping marketplace has dropped the price of the VegTrug Raised Wooden Planter by £40. Normally retailing for £199.99, garden lovers can now buy this sturdy plant bed for £159.99. Crafted from 100 per cent fsc-certified cedar wood, this medium classic sized planter is said to 'elevate your gardening game'. Treated in a water-based preservative, this planter was built to withstand the elements and be a sturdy home for your new plants. As well as having six plastic feet covers for extra durability, the planter is said to be 'breeze to assemble' from a flat pack and is the ideal solution for those who have limited gardening areas. Additionally, the planter is raised to an ergonomic working height to help ease any aches and pains while working. With a massive 420L soil capacity, gardeners will be able to use the space for a variety of different crops as the 'v' shape design allows for a mixed cultivation of deep-rooted and shallow-rooted produce. VegTrug Raised Wooden Planter Product Description The planter also comes with a pre-formed liner that helps promote soil health and aeration, as well as gradually bio-degrading. With dimensions of H80 x W183.4 x D76 cm, this planter offers hassle-free maintenance and is available in either a natural or grey colour to seamlessly blend in with the garden's aesthetic. Alternatively, Amazon has reduced the price of the Outsunny Wooden Raised Garden Bed. Normally retailing for £63.99, shoppers can now snap up the planter for £56.68. Able to hold 99L of soil, the planter is said to be long and deep enough to allow plants and veg to breathe and grow healthily. Over on B&Q, the retailer is selling the Silver Oval-Shaped Metal Raised Bed for £124.99. Crafted with durable galvanised steel, this flower bed was designed to resist rust and corrosion. Easy to assemble, this planter is said to be perfect for flowers, herbs and small vegetables. Back to the VegTrug planter, some shoppers have praised the bed for its easy assembly and how it has helped gardeners with back ache. However, some reviewers had contrasting opinions about the delivery service. One five-star reviewer simply wrote: "Very good service and nice product." With another adding: "Absolutely brilliant. Well made, very simple to put together, everything you need is included. Looks very nice too." However, it should be noted that a few shoppers complained about the delivery time of the wooden planter and having to be available at home within a delivery window. Additionally, one shopper reported the planter had been damaged upon arrival. Homewares deal of the week It's time to give the home a spring refresh and Dunelm has launched its massive sale. Scroll down to win more than £350 of Veg Trug planters from Robert Dyas GROUND FORCE I'm a gardening pro – do my essential £2.49 Home Bargains hack now to bring your bulbs back next year It's that tricky time between spring and summer bulbs. Your daffodils need deadheading, while your tulips are probably nearing the end. 2 What we'd all like our tulips to look like in the Spring Credit: Getty 2 Deadheading daffodils is a way of boosting the bulb for next year Credit: Getty And instead of gorgeous bright blooms filling your outside space with colour, chances are that by now that bank of bulbs could look a bit past its peak. It begs the question though - what DO you do with all those straggly, half munched leaves making a mess in your beds? What you DON'T want to do - is cut away all the green leaves from your daffodils and tulips, even if they're getting on your nerves. It may look like they're over it - but they're actually creating energy to store in the bulb and packing it with nutrients - to make sure it can go again next year. And make sure you definitely deadhead - this stops both tulips and daffodils from wasting time making seeds - and helps them focus on the bulb itself. Some experts recommend plaiting the leaves - so at least they're tidy while they're soaking up the sun. I've done this - its actually a really mindful exercise, and at least makes it look tidy if nothing else. And others reckon you should dig up the bulbs to store until they need planting again. I've never done this - life's too short and I don't have the space to store them. However there is a key handy hack you can do right now - which should boost the bulbs energy levels in the hope they'll bless you with a 2026 showgarden. Gardener shares 'genius' bulb planting hack that will give your months of spring flowers & it takes seconds to do Give them a decent dose of liquid feed this weekend - ideally a high potassium fertiliser - but any liquid feed will do. Home Bargains are currently selling Westland All Purpose Plant Food for just £2.49. It contains seaweed, which is a great addition to any plant feed. Just give them a regular dose until the foliage has completely died out - and you're giving them the best chance to return again next year. Once the leaves have yellowed, you can get stuck in - they should come away in your hands really easily. And then just pray to the bulb Gods that they'll come back to bless you next year.
