Guv Ravi does 51 push-ups at yoga day event

Madurai/Trichy: Governor R N Ravi on Saturday led the 11th International Yoga Day celebrations in Madurai, stunning the crowd by performing 51 consecutive push-ups on stage following a group yoga session with more than 10,000 students. The event, held at Velammal Global School, began around 8am with enthusiastic participation from students, teachers, and yoga enthusiasts. During the hour-long session, Ravi, 73, performed various asanas and breathing exercises. He shared practical tips on maintaining correct posture during push-ups and encouraged students to challenge themselves, before he himself went on to perform push-ups 51 times. "Youngsters should aim to do at least 100 push-ups consecutively," he said, drawing loud applause from the crowd. Addressing the gathering, Ravi described yoga as India's timeless gift to the world. "Each year, the number of participants across the globe continues to grow. Yoga transcends religion, region, and language, it is a universal practice for wellness," he said. RPF personnel, scouts, guides, and railway staff took part in the early morning event held near the iconic vertical-lift bridge. People visit replicas of Arupadai Veedu ahead of Lord Murugan conference

Ahead of Muruga Bakthargalin Aanmeega Maanadu to be held in Madurai on Sunday, hundreds of people visited the replicas of six Murugan temples (Arupadai Veedu) installed at the venue of the conference. The statues of Lord Murugan were placed inside each of the six replicas of the six abodes of Lord Murugan. For the people witnessing the six abodes of Lord Murugan, located in different parts of Tamil Nadu, under one roof was a once in a lifetime opportunity. The people from far and near thronged the venue throughout the day. People were seen clicking photographs and selfies enthusiastically in front of the replicas of the temples with their family members and friends. They were given prasadam following the darshan. Security has been beefed up at the venue of the conference to handle the crowd. People from far and near are expected to come to the event. Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan will be attending the conference. Considering that leaders from other States and State BJP leaders will be attending the event, additional security arrangements have been made by Madurai City police. The police have announced temporary traffic diversions in the city in view of the conference and in order to ease traffic congestion along the route. Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi who earlier in the day participated in the International Yoga Day event at Velammal Global School visited the venue of the conference. He went around the venue and took a look at the statues of Lord Murugan placed inside each of the six replicas of the six abodes of Lord Murugan.

Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi performed yoga asanas in the presence of around 10,000 students on the occasion of the 11th International Yoga Day at Velammal Global School in Madurai on Saturday (June 21, 2025.) The event began at around 8 a.m. at Usain Bolt ground of the school. Mr. Ravi told the students about the importance of practising yoga asanas. He said 10 years ago, in 2015, India gave the gift to the world and the United Nations had accepted it. 'Every year the number of participants all over the world has been increasing,' he said. June 21, the day of summer solstice, was chosen as International Yoga Day as the Sun god is the source of all energy to Earth and it was the longest day,' he said. Yoga originated with Lord Shiva, the Aadhi guru and the Aadhi yogi and was codified by Rishi Patanjali,' he said. He told the students that yoga was the most effective key to good health, physical health as well as mental health. He advised them to dream big and told them that they were like the seeds of a banyan tree which will grow into a mammoth tree. Mr. Ravi said that in their journey and the growth, yoga will be the most powerful and reliable ally. 25,000 tribal students perform 108 Surya Namaskarams in 108 minutes in Vizag Chairman of Velammal Educational Trust M.V Muthuramalingam said when he was suffering from health issues he was advised to practise yoga. He advised the students to regularly practise yoga asanas. The event was organised with the main aim of promoting physical fitness, mental health and wellness among the students and the public, and to create awareness about yoga. The programme was also being held to showcase India's traditional education system and culture.
