Call of Duty Black Ops 6 and Warzone Season 4 roadmap and features explained

Image via Activision. After a disappointing mid-season update aka Season 3 Reloaded, Call of Duty Black Ops 6 and Warzone fans were eagerly waiting for Season 4. It seems the wait is finally over as Activision has recently revealed the details of all the content coming with Season 4, along with the season roadmap. Season 3 was a lot more satisfactory than the mid-season refresh, as it brought new maps like Nomad, Barrage, new game modes like Zombie Snacks LTM, and most importantly, the return of Verdansk. But Season 3 Reloaded absolutely failed to live up to the antics of Season 3, and now all eyes are on Season 4. Call of Duty won't introduce paid LTMs, but its in-game purchases need a fix

Call of Duty had a close call with a leak that indicated a major change for its Battle Passes – and even though it's false, its in-game purchases-forward attitude is still present in the franchise now, and getting worse by the day. Call of Duty 'leaks' claimed that paywalled LTMs were on the way to the series' next game, and though they have been debunked, the fact that we all believed it at all is telling of the current state of the franchise. Call of Duty looks to be in a sticky situation right now. As is often the case for this period in the franchise's annual games' life cycle, players are starting to drop away from Black Ops 6 in favour of more interesting things, and it is fighting to rope players back into its gameplay. But Season 3 Reloaded simply isn't cutting it, even with Verdansk keeping Warzone players interested. ‌ Of course, the new portion of the season is attempting to please the stoners in its crowd, with the arrival of Seth Rogen and a number of other themed skins to keep the smokers in the lobby happy, but after that, there's little else for other players with dull LTMs and minor additions that don't really make the game feel 'reloaded' in any meaningful way. Plus, after the season itself was delayed, it's starting to feel as though the extra time that the team took didn't amount to much. ‌ This could indicate that the game might have crossed the Rubicon when it comes to collecting new players before the new title, and as we're beginning to see, that may not be particularly far away, as leaks and rumours are beginning to appear for Call of Duty 2025, set to take over Warzone and swipe the main-game baton from Black Ops 6. And one leak, despite the fact that it has now been debunked, indicates that we expect so very little of it. Call of Duty LTM leaks ended up being false A leak reared its head concerning the incoming Call of Duty 2025 title, and though it failed to earn any validity, the very fact that so many players believed it is more than enough to determine that something has to change in the franchise. According to reputable Call of Duty leaker TheGhostOfHope on Twitter, some major changes were set to come to the Battle Pass of Call of Duty 2025 (currently rumoured to be another Black Ops game) that would put 'higher value' limited-time modes behind the paywall of the Battle Pass itself. This new system would add value to the Battle Pass, as crossovers with Premium Event Tracks would come under the Battle Pass and dish out items to players with one payment per season, but it would also lock many LTMs behind the Battle Pass, unlike the current system that allows players to enjoy the smaller modes that come with each event, injecting minor differences to existing gamemodes. This was a pretty shocking twist to be trusted, especially as in many cases, players simply don't engage with LTMs in any major way, tending to play through them once and cast them aside. Thankfully, though, it isn't happening, according to Call of Duty Twitter account CharlieIntel, who added to their own post in a tweet about the change to state that they had been told it was entirely false. ...but we believed it The biggest issue at hand here is that players have been concerned about the direction of Activision's teams for some time, worried that they were going to chase microtransactions so far down the rabbit hole that they forgot that players were paying AAA prices to access mainline Call of Duty titles in the first place, and this seemed entirely within the remit of the company's current attempts to make an extra buck. These microtransactions add a little more to the company's pockets, but in many ways, they erode the players' trust in the game that it is offering them the best experience after shelling out so much in the first place. This revelation would have proven even further that Call of Duty isn't willing to offer players much if they just want to spend £70 upfront – but the company's track record with LTMs proves that they can be a little thoughtless in design, too. When the TMNT collaboration came to Black Ops 6 in Season 2 Reloaded, Call of Duty revealed that playing Cowabunga Cranked, the themed LTM for Zombies mode, you would recieve a bonus 50% reduction to damage taken from behind if you wore a paid TMNT Turtle skin for the duration of the game, literally applying a pay-to-win feature to the mode. Though there is little competitive about the mode apart from the chance to earn a (barely) different Calling Card for completing a map's Easter egg, it's still a flagrant misunderstanding of the applications of cosmetic items, and a careless addition to an LTM that proved that extra CoD Point purchases take precedent over developing a balanced, fair mode. LTMs and in-game purchases already clearly have a rocky relationship, so this suggestion that new modes could become exclusive to those with a Battle Pass is punishingly and depressingly easy to believe. Though this isn't a feature that is likely to appear, it's clear that the game pressuring players to purchase a BlackCell Battle Pass (which, as a bonus, means that players don't even have access to all of the things they want when they buy a standard Battle Pass), sending them plunging through the item shop to unlock free double XP tokens and cramming licensed event passes into the title as often as possible is alienating players. Perhaps things really were simpler back in the DLC pack days, offering players four new maps and a new Zombies experience for a lump sum. Though it was more money for players to spend, it at least felt more honest than the current system, that seems to make an attempt to coerce players rather than market to them. We might be free of paid LTMs now, but the path that Activision is on implies they could rear their head in the future. It's a bleak implication, but it wouldn't be particularly hard to believe. There are only so many Seth Rogens we can take, but that won't matter, so long as players keep buying them.

‘Warzone' Is Great Again With The Verdansk Update — Please Don't Ruin It By Listening To Streamers And Sweats

Verdansk Warzone is back and it's perfect. The Season 3 update and return of Verdansk brings the game back to its OG state, but with a suite of improvements including better graphics and the omni-movement system, which has been toned down to create a more tactical play-style. If I could give Activision and its studios (especially Raven Software) one piece of advice it would be this: Don't change a thing. More to the point, I would say that any forthcoming changes should be iterative rather than extreme. The most fundamental thing I would suggest is make no changes to three key points: 1. Don't devalue a player's life. Gear is crucial now. Ground loot is rarely great, and when you do find great ground loot it's rare. Eliminating enemy players who have great loot is a reward now, rather than commonplace. Scarcity is key once again, which is what made Warzone special in the first place. Armor plates are valuable and harder to come by, though not impossible. Armor boxes are much more scarce and cost $4,000 at a Buy Station. Cash is less plentiful, forcing players to complete contracts. And contracts are often contested, which adds risk and reward. Changing any of this would fundamentally alter the experience in a negative way. On top of this, players cost more to buy back and there are no Redeploy Flares or Gulag Tokens. All of this adds up to an experience that is more satisfying because you have to fight a little harder to keep your squad alive. 2. Don't make map traversal easier. The removal of Redeploy Balloons is such a breath of fresh air. To get across the map, you need to go on foot or hop into a vehicle. This makes the game more tactical and prevents obnoxious third-partying from teams that come swooping down from the air. You can plan out more tactical approaches or fortifications. This creates more viable play-styles and adds layers of strategy to the game that's been missing for years. That being said, I'm not against the addition of more ascenders to various buildings, as long as this is done in moderation. I like that buildings are less easily scaled and that there aren't always a dozen entrances to every structure, but tinkering with this is the sort of change I can live with. 3. Don't change movement or other key gameplay features. I don't want to see backpacks return. I don't want the movement to change with the next release of a premium multiplayer title. Where the game is at right now with movement, gunplay, inventory, Buy Station locations and quantity, etc. is perfect. Any new changes to the game should be limited. I wouldn't hate, for instance, the return of Bunker Busters, because those add a layer of strategy without fundamentally altering gameplay balance. You can use a Bunker Buster to weaken a fortified location, targeting players in building interiors. Adding visual indicators of a where an Airstrike is going to hit, on the other hand, makes Airstrikes less viable to the point of being almost useless. Warzone should be a long-term project, and every change should be carefully considered in order to maintain balance. Verdansk is an awesome map and I think it should be here to stay, but having a second BR map isn't a bad thing as long as it's well-designed. Avalon showed a lot of promise from what we'd seen so far. It reminded me a lot of the Blackout map, which was also fantastic. For now, I hope Raven Software doesn't just listen to the feedback it's gotten from surveys. A huge risk is giving players what they think they want: More plates, more cash, better ground loot. Of course people want these things, but scarcity is what makes the gameplay loop so satisfying. We need scarcity and limitations on traversal to create the tension that makes every engagement and every match and every circle exciting and high-stakes. If you want to play a sweaty, high-kill game with more loot and lots of intense action from the word go, play Resurgence on Rebirth Island. Leave Verdansk alone. Warzone is in great shape right now, and as the old saying goes: If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Major PS5, PS4 Shooter on the Cusp of Losing Support

A major PS5, PS4 shooter is reportedly facing an uncertain future amid loss of players, according to a known insider. It sounds almost unbelievable that would lose support, but well-connected insider GhostofHope claims to have heard that there won't be a Warzone 3 if things continue the way they are going. In a tweet, GhostofHope wrote that if the return of Verdansk to Warzone 2.0 fails to retain players, there won't be a Warzone 3 along with Call of Duty 2026. 'If Verdansk fails they wont put the resources into it,' GhostofHope tweeted. 'Warzone is pretty much in limbo at the moment.' The insider further wrote that people shouldn't be shocked that Activision might not invest any further resources into Warzone because the free-to-play shooter will have been out for six years by 2026, but 'continues to see diminishing returns.' In other news, GhostofHope claims that this year's Call of Duty will be the last one to support last-gen platforms. Starting with the rumored Modern Warfare 4 in 2026, Activision will focus on current-gen and next-gen platforms. Apparently, the game is already being developed on next-gen Xbox dev kits.
