Senator Welch to hold community events in Manchester and Rutland May 28
RUTLAND, Vt. (ABC22/FOX44) – Tariffs will be center stage as Vermont's junior senator talks with business owners, manufacturers, and community members to listen to their concerns first hand on Wednesday. Two events are planned. The first, in Manchester starting at 1:00 p.m., is an invitation-only event where Senator Peter Welch will be joining together local businesses and manufacturers at the Orvis fishing rod shop. The second will be at the Paramount Theatre in Rutland starting at 5:30 p.m. and is open to the public with RSVP (link here). Senator Welch has previously hosted roundtables in Stowe, Newport, St. Albans, and virtually. Vermont City Marathon hits the ground running Sunday The meeting in Rutland is described as a 'community conversation' where Vermonters are welcome to discuss 'what more needs to be done to make our communities more affordable, our businesses more successful, and our families healthier and safer.' The events follow the senator's recent trip to Ottawa, the capital of Canada, where he met with Prime Minister Mark Carney. Both small business and larger corporations have expressed concern over the economic effects of the tariffs newly instituted by the Trump administration. Welch has opposed the tariffs on Canada and other countries. According to the office of the United State Trade Representative, Vermont exported $645 million in goods to Canada in 2024, by far its largest market for exports. Vermont City Marathon hits the ground ‘running' this Sunday
BURLINGTON, Vt. (ABC22/FOX44) – Runners across the state are gearing up for the annual Vermont City Marathon & Relay this Sunday, May 25. This race , which first began in 1989, is a two-loop course that shows off 'some of the best of the City of Burlington, including the Church Street Marketplace, five miles of each loop on the bike path along Lake Champlain with views of the Adirondacks, and running through four of Burlington's beautiful parks,' according to RunVermont. The Vermont City Marathon starts at 7:15 a.m. at Burlington's Waterfront Park. Those interested in participating can still sign up for this event as a marathon-runner or relay team. The deadline to sign up closes one day before the race, May 24 at 5:30 p.m. FDA warns of 'rare but severe itching' after using popular allergy medications Roadways and certain areas of the city will be impacted throughout the day. Roads will close at some point between 6:00 a.m. and 7:45 a.m. depending on the area. Road-reopening times will vary, but additional specifics on closures can be found here. Parking will be banned in certain areas day-of, from 5:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. This includes: Lake St: Main St to Depot St Main St: Battery St to Lake St Main St: Battery St to St Paul St Pine St: Main St to Maple St North Ave, Battery Park to Leddy Park Rd Lakewood Parkway (divided road entrance area only) College St, Battery St to Lake St Towing will be enforced, according to Vermont City Marathon staff. Burlington to close roads during the Vermont City Marathon: Where to avoid
As runners are preparing for the 2025 M&T Bank Vermont City Marathon & Relay in Burlington this weekend, drivers also need to be on the alert for what street closures and detours will be happening. The Memorial Day weekend marathon will be happening Sunday, May 25, beginning at 7 a.m. in Waterfront Park. The race will also conclude in the park. Organized by RunVermont, the race is a 13.1-mile looped course through the Burlington. Marathoners, relay runners and hand cyclists will all complete, with a total of over 4,600 racers. For those not participating, the race may put a delay in your driving plans, whether you'll be commuting to work, running errands or traveling for the weekend. Below is a list of all Burlington road closures and times so you can plan your travel accordingly. Certain streets will allow resident traffic during select hours. Lake Street. 6 a.m. - 2 p.m. Main Street. 7:15 a.m. - 12:15 a.m. Church Street. 7:15 a.m. - 12:15 a.m. Pine Street south of Main Street. 7:15 - 7:50 a.m. will be closed to all; 8:30 - 11:15 a.m. will be resident traffic only. Flynn Avenue between Foster and Pine streets. 7:15 - 7:50 a.m. will be closed to all; 8:30 - 11:15 a.m. will be resident traffic only.
