LPA trough, Habagat to bring scattered rains over parts of Luzon
The Southwest Monsoon will bring scattered rains over Metro Manila and other areas in Luzon on Sunday, August 17, 2025. JOAHNA LEI CASILAO/GMA Integrated News/File photo The trough of a low pressure area (LPA) and the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) will bring scattered rains over parts of Luzon on Sunday, PAGASA said. Ilocos Region, Zambales, and Bataan will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the trough of the LPA. Moderate to at times heavy rains may possibly result in flash floods or landslides. This LPA, whose trough or extension is affecting the western sections of Northern and Central Luzon, is outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), PAGASA weather specialist Veronica Torres said in an interview on Super Radyo dzBB on Sunday morning. "Mababa ang tsansa nito na maging bagyo at mababa rin ang tsansa nitong pumasok ng PAR," she said. (It has a low chance of developing into a tropical depression and its chance of entering PAR is also low.) Meanwhile, the Southwest Monsoon is affecting the western part of Southern Luzon. Metro Manila, Cavite, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro, and Palawan may expect cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the Habagat. Flash floods or landslides may possibly result due to moderate to at times heavy rains. The rest of the country on the other hand will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms. During severe thunderstorms, flash floods or landslides may result. Coastal waters will be moderate in the western section of Luzon, and slight to moderate in the rest of the country. Sunrise was at 5:43 a.m. while sunset will be at 6:18 p.m. —KG, GMA Integrated News

Rains Expected Over Parts of Luzon on July 28 Due to Southwest Monsoon
The southwest monsoon, or habagat, will bring rains to several areas in Luzon on Monday, July 28, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa). In a 5 p.m. weather update, Pagasa weather specialist Veronica Torres said that regions such as Cagayan Valley, the Cordillera Administrative Region, Ilocos Region, Central Luzon, and parts of CALABARZON and MIMAROPA — including Laguna, Batangas, Cavite, Rizal — are likely to experience rainfall due to habagat. Fair weather is expected in areas like Quezon Province and the Bicol Region, although localized thunderstorms may still occur. Visayas and Mindanao will also see generally fair conditions, with chances of isolated thunderstorms. No gale warnings have been issued for any of the country's coastal areas. PH now transitioning to wet season
Rain, particularly in the afternoon or evening, has been reported in several areas of the Philippines, marking the country's transition to the wet season, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Tuesday. 'Opo, actually po 'yung pagiging maulan, napansin nga din po natin dito sa around Metro Manila, naging maulan rin po. So, nakikita po natin na possible na nga din po 'yung papunta na po tayo sa pagiging maulan or papunta na po tayo sa wet season,' said PAGASA weather specialist Veronica Torres in an interview with Balitanghali. (Yes, actually, the rainy weather, we have also noticed it here around Metro Manila. So, we can see that it is possible that we are heading towards the rainy season or we are heading towards the wet season.) The state weather bureau said that there are parameters to consider before declaring the start of the rainy season. 'Titingnan natin 'yung accumulated rainfall and yung days kung tuloy-tuloy ba 'yung mga pagpapaulan nito at ayun po ay titingnan ng ating mga kasamang climatologist and then after then, kapag na-meet na 'yung parameters, possible na po tayong mag-declare ng rainy season po,' Torres added. (We will look at the accumulated rainfall and the days if the rainfall is continuous, and then our fellow climatologists will look at it, and then after that, when the parameters are met, it is possible for us to declare the rainy season.) According to PAGASA, at least 25 mm of rainfall should be experienced for five days, with at least 1 mm for three consecutive days, for the wet season to be officially declared. Last year, the wet season officially began on May 29. PAGASA said that the dry season remains despite the rains brought by the Intertropical Convergence Zone and thunderstorms. Further, PAGASA said that Metro Manila is expected to continue to experience hot and humid weather in the coming days. 'Although clear morning until tanghali and then pagdating ng hapon, doon nga po tumataas 'yung mga tsansa ng mga localized thunderstorms,' said Torres.
